I was a huge fan of Oblivion when it came out and with the recent annoucement of Skyrim it's made me want to play another TES game. I hope the graphics aren't too big of a problem for me cause I don't like looking at characters that look like they belong in a popup book.

Are there any OOO mods that will make the game look better like they did for Oblivion?

yes, there is a TES Nexus for Morrowwind mods, lots of mods. God damn you, you're gonna make me reinstall it . . . thanks a lot

thanks a lot!!

There are texture packs, of that, i'm sure, there's also other mods, but I'll be honest with you, I haven't delved as deeply into modding Morrowwind as I did with Oblivion. I just know about the texture packs from previous threads.

Try searching for those threads using the Search function, pretty sure you'll find all you wanna know from that.

While not really helpful per your topic, can I recommend you steal the Sword of White Woe in a house in Balmora when you start out? :p

It's one of the best weapons in the game, especially at the start!

I'm at work, so I can't access that site, sorry

IIRC, there is a Qarl's texture pack for Morrowwind, I COULD BE WRONG, but that's the first thing I'd search for.

After that, look for mods that catch your interest.

If you want an absolute rule of thumb, they have a button you can click that says Top 100 mods

just click it and you'll find all you need in the first 20 you see on the list. I'm not saying you need to download them all, but you'll likely find what you want there.

When I get home in about 3 hours i'll give you a solid list of stuff to get.

Stick with it for a few hours, the game will grow on you.

thanks bro.. i'll just play something else till you get home then

don't go that far!!

google TES Nexus

they have the best mods for Morrowwind and Oblivion there, last I looked both have their own section, there's absolutely no reason you can't find what you want bro.

Dammit, dammit, dammit.

I just installed and updated Gothic 3 this weekend (which I did not get to actually play) and now I'm going to spend this whole weekend following that morrowind guide. I hope all of the links work.

Those two games are so completely different, like polar opposites. I could see playing one for a while then changing over to the other. They are both so dog gone long it would be nice taking a break and switching over. That's a lot of gaming though :)

I think one didn't work (forgot which), but it was one of the minor texture replaces. The before and after is quite dramatic, better in some areas noticeably then Oblivion actually without mods. Although I did look on tesnexus for some alternatives as well, there is a much larger face pack on there then the one suggested on the site for instance, still comparing the options.

I've actually spent several days now just modding Oblivion and Morrowind, launching only to compare/test changes.

I''m just glad I kept all of these discs from college. Could one back up a morrowind install for moving to a different computer? If I go through this all I do not want to ever do it again...

This site is pretty comprehensive for the graphics part

http://morrowind2009.wordpress.com/

This right here will get you started. A good plan would be to get the basics from this site, then add little by little over time. The fewer mods you have the less your patience will be tested. Also reccomend molx, which loads your mods in the right order.

Connary's textures are really really good... but I'm not sure where to find those. I think he may have taken them down until he releases everything in a single package.

Also get cortex's scripted spells. If you are even considering a vampire, then you definitely want his Vampire Embrace. I'd even say get it if you weren't considering it. Blows away anything Oblivion has in that department.

Peruse this: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/fms/TopRated.php?content=mods .

tesnexus dominates Oblivion mods, but with morrowind, there's a lot of good stuff in other places. Planet Elderscrolls could be #1 in library size. I'm not sure at this point.

How could I forget this too? http://www.mwmythicmods.com/ This will point you into all sorts of good directions. Names mods by theme and also links to "TELESPHOROS' LIST o'MODS"

Ok, that should keep you busy for a long time. If I were you, I'd probably just follow the basics in that wordpress guide maybe throw in a few others that strike your interest, then just play a while. After that slowly find stuff and add it in.

Before you do anything, turn on the option to always use best attack. Chances are you may have already known that but just throwing it out there. If you have never played the game before try playing it without all the mods. You can get more caught up in the modding then actually taking the time to enjoy the game. Also do as much as you can with out advice. Thats what I did, at first you run around aimless, but before you know it you find yourself engrossed. You obviously should do whatever you please but that is what I would do. I have easily spent over 1000 hours on this game, whenever I re-play it I never mod. But to each their own :)

This reminds me I need to replay Oblivion someday when I upgrade my graphics card.

I bought the game in 2006 I believe, but having to run it in 800x600 and the auto-leveling enemies kind of killed it for me at the time. I lost interest and never really played much past the first dungeon and town sadly.

I now have a quad core and 4GB of ram, and the same old 6800GS.

Morrowind looks tempting too, but I probably can't run that properly either, har har.

Can someone explain how to use the "morrowind visual pack 3" I extracted it in the proper locations and used the launcher but I still see the same textures.

Make sure it's installed correctly. If you use steam make sure all your files are in the proper place. You shouldn't see any textures folder in the main Morrowind directory for example. Textures should be in textures, meshes in meshes, etc. The graphics extender which is a completely seperate program does work for me in steam however it requires that you disable steam community while playing.

..... im so tempted to buy morrowwind again .....

between moving twice, I've lost my morrowwind and oblivion games -_-

so sad.

It's one of the best weapons in the game, especially at the start!

It isn't in a house! It is in one of the guard towers. Funny that I found it in Suran when I was playing, but it can be found in Balmora, too.

Anyway, the only mods I really messed around with for Morrowind were MGE, some character model replacers, and a Cliff Racer mod. I downloaded probably a hundred different mods, but only got around to trying a few.

Graphically, you can actually get fairly close to Oblivion quality (sort of):

Just be prepared to spend way too much time trying to do it :)

(And no, I don't have a guide for you to follow with a step-by-step on how to achieve this. Lost my Morrowind install in a hard drive crash and genuinely can't remember exactly what my setup was)

Combat enhanced (maybe it was Combat really does a lot for combat. Don't use "always use best attack" with that though.

Did you use some of Connary's textures in that?

Okay, everyone's talking about the mods. My advice is:

Either start as a Breton and do the Boots of Speed quest, or boost your speed as high as you can initially.

My dad played this game on the original Xbox for 4 years straight. That's the only game he played. I convinced him to buy a 360 for Oblivion and he hated it. Oh well.

I should actually go back and play this one especially with the graphics mods.

That's horrible dude, why, oh why, did you convince him to play it on 360????????

/facepalm

Probably cause he played Morrowind on Xbox. :p Morrowind is probably my favorite game of all time, I can't even begin to think about all the hours spent playing this game.

The otherworldly feel of Morrowind is so different from Oblivion that I can see why someone could like one and not the other. I also liked the overt racism in MW and the different structures and ecology of the various regions.

to be quite honest with you, I liked Morrowind's story and atmosphere better than Oblivions. If I had my way, Oblivion would have been released before Morrowwind, then we could enjoy Morrowind with Oblivion's game engine

that definitely would have been a helluva game

That definitely would be pretty epic

Tamriel Rebuilt is porting Oblivion into Morrowind, and porting Morrowind into Oblivion, by building all files from scratch without copying or converting files from one game into the other. It's probably the most epic mod of any game, ever, and I do wonder if they will ever be able to complete it.

They are doing it that way because Morroblivion apparently got squashed by Bethesda for "licensing issues with using textures from Morrowind in Oblivion" (see the FAQ page).

I don't remember what they are called, but there are a number of mods that DRAMATICALLY improve the character models. Go and get these.

Turn on the option for always use the best attack.

Ignore the main story, go and have fun with the guilds and stuff.

Always sell stuff to Creeper in Caldera, he buys stuff at full price (there is a mudcrab with who does this also and has more money, but is a pain in the ass to find), I reccomend going into the editor and giving creeper more money.

Join one of the houses and rank up as much as possible: they give you a house (I prefer House Halaau but all three give you a place to stay)

also holy crap that looks amazing for morrowind, I might have to reinstall it and try to get it setup like that.

Definitely get one of the graphical mods that adds some color beyond different shades of brown.

Sure as hell would have been.
