You can almost do that now.. have you checked ebay?
I have been watching eBay and I've seen the glut of i7 970 chips over the last couple of days. I would rather support a [H] member and save someone eBay selling fees. If I end up overpaying by a few $$$ based on the surplus of chips available pushing prices down, I'm all right with that.

Are there any good mobos that support dual hex-core i7's? I bet a dual i7 970 system would simply kick ass.

my aunt works for costco. I dont want to ask her to do it if its something completely invasive. For anyone that has signed up, how much would I actually need my aunt to do?

Anything for government employees? All our government computers have Intel CPUs! :|

I'd heart (and tip) anyone that would be willing to pick up a i7 960 for me.

AFAIK, you need Xeons to do dual hex-cores because they have an extra QPI link for between the processors, and the regular Core i7 doesn't.

Mmmm so you have to be in retail to qualify for the 970. I think I'm just going to wait for Sandy Bridge and get me an unlocked processor; 4.5ghz on air, wonder what it will do on water? Hehe. ^_^ 970 is a hexacore but it's not unlocked and I'm not sure how it will stack up to Sandy Bridge cpus.

The default multiplier of i7 970 is 24x... Why would you need more? With 200BCLK you can get 4.8ghz... Which is beyond what most chips can even hit with a good water cooler.

ours is a mix...they started letting us buy our own computers and we got 2 quad core i5's to replace our phenoms single core first gen p4's

I've got a walmart gift card for anyone who wants to send me one :) $255 gift card so $40 profit for clicking a few buttons extra for me .... otherwise.....

....MAN, I HATE YOU FEW GUYS FOR GETTING THIS SO CHEAP! :D

The total is actually about $255 which includes the processor, tax and shipping...

Wait till the 990/995 come out next month and you'll be able to buy the 970 for $500+

I'd pay $300 at least for this. I also have a i7 930 for trade if someone is interested.

Intel® Core™ i7-970 Processor
Intel® Core™ i7 970 Processor - 6 cores – 12 threads, 12MB Cache, .32nm process technology
Sid Meier’s Civilization V*
MSRP: $879.991
Price for Rockstars/Rock Legends: $215 USD

Why would they sell it to you for $300 when they can get so much more on ebay? Avg price of all the 970s going for sale on ebay is around ~$600

I wish i could find someone in retail that would help. This is killer, a 960 would be a great upgrade for me.

People are still paying $200-250 for i7 930/950. You guys are dreaming if someone will sell you a 960/970 at or near the promotional cost.
I don't think anyone thinks someone will buy them this for cost like some people are willing to do for the Frys or Microcenter B&M deals because those deals aren't nearly as limited. People should know they will have to pay eBay or just below eBay prices (since no eBay fees are charged). Thankfully for us non retail people eBay is becoming saturated with chips and prices are plummeting.

Looks like I qualify, I'll have a go at getting enough chips for the 970. I haven't even finished putting my 950 build together so I'll prolly sell it if I get the new one. Thanks for the heads-up OP.

sell it to me for agood deal? :)

If anyone wants to sell me one - I'll trade a 920 that'll do 4.0 on air HT on and $200 - or we can deal. PM me...

*hopes he finds a suitable person soon*

Everyone I know that DID work retail no longer does :(

*glares at his e6300*

Hmmm. I won't find out til next week. Company isn't listed. I had to email [email protected] with the channel Id and business name. Hope it works out. I want the 960 for my little brother's build. Might give me reasons to go i7 if I get the 970.

Just found out one of my friends works at a Sony outlet store. Time to make him register =)

can someone hook me up with the Intel 160GB SSD? I'll pay some $ for your effort too :).

And if no one is willing to pay you for the time it takes you to become a Rockstar, then your time is worthless.

So true..i took the test for my brother...my brother hit me with a $50..cause he's to lazy :D

So we can buy both?
I just reached Rockstar status and I'm just waiting on verification.

Just so you all know, Intel is looking into those who are selling their 970 from the retail edge program. There is a thread in the retail edge forums about it. Not that there is much Intel can do, but I suspect sellers may be banned from the site. Me, I'm going to enjoy folding on my six core i7 :)

And per an admin on the site:
FYI, per the Terms and Conditions, if it was bought via our purchase program, it is strictly not intended for resale.

Well be-careful guys..you don't want to risk losing your purchasing of Intel items at a great price in the future.

Nice...totally forgot about the Retail Edge program, and now that I work in retail...

Yikes, this can't be popular with all the people in our forums that bought 980x and 970...

Completed everything I could find, am stuck at 23k so it looks like I may have just wasted my Sunday evening
