Level Twelve

Mea culpa on the use of the word "sponsors." You're the best in my book. Cheers!

CPU OC Adventures

Stock clock on an 875K is 2.93GHz. I achieved a 4.0GHz clock "cause I thought that was a nice round number. Ran my Far Cry 2 bench again with the 5750 OC'd and got 66FPS average, 91 Max and 53 Min. Core temps rose to 67 degrees C from an idle of 49 degrees. Stock idle is 33 degrees. All of this was done with the Delta case fan running at half-speed. The PSU didn't seem to care at all and I didn't detect a speed up of its temp controlled 80mm fan.

So the bottom line for me is that OC'ing the CPU is a waste of electricity when playing graphics intensive games. More importantly, I can safely replace the Delta with a quieter fan that gets me 40-45 CFM assuming speed is linear to capacity (prolly isn't).

Sorry to all you "burst into flames" fans. Maybe next time. :D Peace out.

First thing, I love the build, it looks friggin awesome so keep it up :p

Secondly, what about the possibility of adding a nice ambient light for when it is on maybe have it protrude from the bottom where the GPU is (big open hole easy to place). I also understand the desire for a minimalistic design and not having one. also for temp reasons placing a fan in the wood space above the computer either closer to front to push or closer to back to help pull the hot air out of that space. :D

Thanks. I'm happy with the vent system. Maybe you mis-read me somehow complaining about it. My initial plans had fans mounted to the bottom and top attached to the wooden sections and being powered by the support box power supply. This setup was complicated so I thought I would try something simpler first and prove that I actually needed more.

I'm not a big fan of flashy, blinky lights especially when I'm trying to watch a movie on my HDTV. I don't need a power light to let me know the computer is running or if the hard drive is working. Nothing wrong with people needing that kind of visual aid but I don't. With that I had better shut-up before I get into trouble. :).

Great worklog! I really enjoyed reading this, and seeing the finalized wonderful piece of computer art you have created. :D Keep up the great work!

Haha it's all good just throwing it out there. I myself also pull out the led's in all of my cases :D

Just voted again, but looks like you are winning by a landslide already. Great work, look forward to the next project featuring that shipping "mistake" Intel sent your way!

Thanks! Gigabyte approached me to use one of their new Killer-series gaming motherboards (Oops - was I suppose to keep that a secret?). What I need is a decent video card to do the 980X justice. Video cards are the hardest things for me to get a hold of. I'm thinking Sandy Bridge is about to make the 980X obsolete here in a couple of weeks or maybe not, I'm not sure. I haven't had much time lately to keep up with the news. (I wonder why?) :D

Level 13? :p
