With 2 Radeon 6870's and a phenom II x6 cpu you'd think that I would be able to run battlefield bad company 2.... But I have been running into more and more driver(?) crashes more frequently as I play, and just today my screen went and stayed black while playing... I could still see my minimap and HUD normally but I couldn't see the uhhh FPS aspect.

With catalyst 10.10 I am not sure how far back I can go back with the drivers considering how new these cards are, I have been on fire while playing lately and the frequent crashes with no explanation are pissing me off.

Any help or advice would be appreciated

the black screen thing is a problem with the game. i have the same issue with my nvidia cards. will randomly get the flashing black screen or solid black. found spinning my character around it would come back or staring at the ground.

since your running 6870's are you running the 10.10e drivers with the new profile app that was just released a couple days ago?

I have had the same problem! I have a Q6600 at 3.42GHz and two 5770's. Anything higher than the 10.5a and BFBC2 blows; crashes to the desktop, black screens, and crossfire doesn't work. When I tried the 10.9 and the 10.8 driver series I would get faster frame rates with crossfire disabled. Good luck my friend!:(

good point, let me try disabling crossfire. Not sure if I can roll back drivers though.

and yes I have updated to 10.10e they were a little sneaky hiding it in plain sight XD

Same problem here.I have a sapphire 5970. I have ended up using 10.11 drivers and ATI TOOLS. It seems like when i got rid of the ccc panel my crashes became much less frequent.I still crash, but not near as much.

Same here. 5970, x4 955, all stock clocks.

I usually crash to desktop in less than 15 minutes. I ruled out so many things it's frustrating. Both the BFBC2 SW and driver SW are probably the issue. I've had some luck at points and lasted nearly an hour. I've tried every driver from 10.3 to 10.10

10.4 and 10.5 seem to work the best for most of my games

Its the game, its hella flaky which sucks cause its a great game. I had a GTX 260 that it would happen on occasionally and now I have a pair of 5870s that it happens on quite a bit. Usually what makes mine work a bit longer is if when it happens, I just hold down the power button and let it shut off for a few seconds and then turn it back on....tends to do a good job keeping the lockup/crash bugs at bay a bit longer then just restarting the game or doing a soft boot.

well disabling crossfire worked for me, I haven't experienced any slow downs or crashes what so ever.

I just tried this and haven't crashed for 3 hours. I actually had to quit BC2:eek:

I installed the Tray Tool mentioned below, uninstalled ATI CCC, changed Catalyst AI using the tray tool from "Low" to "High" - will report back with overall results after some more testing.

I currently have a Sapphire 5970.Was experiencing CTP in battlefield bad company and MOH.Also a fickering problem.Tired several different driver sets.Still same.I decided to try ATI TRAY TOOL V1.6.9 .1486. I have had no more CTD or flickering probs.I am using the latest 10-11 drivers.Maybe a stupid question, but i assume both cores are active using this tray software.

Had the same issues with that game when I was using 5770x2 in crossfire. I ended up returning the other card and it works fine now.

Im considering selling my 5970 and just getting 2 -470"s Tired of the crashing, but love the graphics i get with 2 cores--a love hate relationship

I have to roll my cpu overclock back to reduce c2d's, but I still get them at 3ghz as well--more frequently after the latest bc2 patch. I got them on my 8800GT SLI setup as well, and my friend gets the on his 260 SLI / i7 920 setup. I'm still not convinced these are due to the gpu at all. All of the GPU's were run at stock. I get an audible sound loop after most c2d's that doesn't go away until you restart. I bought a new sound card hoping that was the issue (xonar ds), but no dice.

I am running in dx9 mode at 6048x1080

I've been plagued with CTC in this game since forever. I used to run 2 5870s in Crossfire and I've always had CTD. I switched to two GTX 480s and I still get CTD. I now have 2 GTX 580s in SLI and I still get constant CTD. Every other game I own plays fine without exception.

In 9 months of searching for the cause, I've yet to figure it out. I got rid of my sound card and switched to on board sound. I've tried every possible GPU setting up and down the board. I've tried every in game setting and still no dice. OS settings, Aero settings. Full game reinstalls. Full OS reinstalls. Christ, I can't even think of them all. But I've tried it. I usually end up giving up and not playing the game. Despite it being my absolute favorite game to play.

I run in game in 6050x1080.

Wow I don't know what to tell you. HD 5970 with 10.10e drivers with 10.11_CAP 3 APP profile running fine.

By anychance, did you use driver sweeper prior to installing 6870? I had a simular issue when I upgraded the 8800 GTX to a GTX 280 with the exact same results as you are having. Driver sweeper did "fix" my issue. But I reformated anyways the following month to be sure I got rid of anything 8800 GTX on my computer.

running BC2 in dx10 path using 4.2ghz i7 950 with 6850 crossfire overclocked at 940/1140mhz and it runs smooth at 5760x1080.
I get ctd maybe once in a few days.
disabled aero and using windows 7 64bit.

One thing that I haven't seen mentioned is that punkbuster can cause ctds. You. Should also try to manually update punkbuster. Pb.sec is a file you should also get.

Try deleting the settings.ini file in the My Documents BFBC2 folder and re-launch the game.
