Social network sites like Facebook lead to infidelity. Not only that, according to this article, it also leads to threesomes! Hell no, I ain’t deleting my Facebook account now!

A pastor who said Facebook was a "portal to infidelity" and told married church leaders to delete their accounts or resign once testified that he had a three-way sexual relationship with his wife and a male church assistant.

Facebook doesn't lead to infidelity..

Having shit for morals and the will power of a 9 year old leads to infidelity.

Listen to Khan, he is wise.

Seriously, i would trust a drug dealer before I would trust a pastor if it were based on morals.

They are getting a worse and worse rep...

People are people, no matter who they are or what they believe. At some point in life we all fail.

For all lousy the Pastors, Doctors, Accountants, Street Sweepers out there .. there are also the hard working ones trying to make a positive difference in the world.

don't listen to religious nuts, they dont know wtf they are talking about

I like some religious nuts! Infact based on some teachings I plan to stone my neighbor for working on a sunday. But don't worry he's an asshole and I could easily take him in a fight.

But anyway, did he meet the male church assistant on facebook? Or in the church? Does that mean infact the church is a "portal to infidelity"? So emporer and those black metal groups were trying to save us all?

try reading the article.

oh heck, no edit button. whether you read the article or not I like your response as it is a great question since it WAS church that brought them together long before facebook existed.

Seems to be reaching a bit too far for a conclusion to say "leads to" infidelity. I'd say that it facilitates it in the same way that motor vehicles, restaurants, florists, and cell phones probably equally do.

Here here!

Well said! Sad fact is, those that are doing right almost never get the attention they so rightly have earned..while one jackass gets tons of time and sticks out in folks mind soooo much longer than warranted.

lol Yep.

How dare someone try to save marriages by sharing the information he's collected as a marriage counselor? And how dare he try to save marriages after his marriage was hurt by infidelity! Hypocrite or something, right?

He's not wrong. He isn't spouting scientific fact, but if spouses stay off social networking sites, or at least make sure both have access to the accounts and are aware of any relationships on said accounts, they will be less likely to fail to their own weaknesses. It's more correlation than causation, but there is a proven link between heavy social networking use and infidelity.

But, of course, it's much easier (and more fun!) to call him a religious nut and make fun of his delivery than it is to have an actual thought about what he's preaching.

It's definitely the person. They would cheat regardless, social networks just expand their choices...

Sad, but true. I speak from experience...

Anything that facilitates hooking up with old sweethearts is a recipe for cheating.

Anything that facilitates the acceleration lead is a recipe for murder.
Anything that facilitates the emotion of anger is a recipe for abuse.
Anything that facilitates the sensation of happiness is a recipe for addiction.
Anything that facilitates the communication with other people is a recipe for anything and everything.

Are you done avoiding discipline and self-control yet?

I think its real easy for people to get that special internet courage and find some fuck buddies too. I've seen plenty of people cheat via online flings when they never would have had the confidence to approach people irl.

insecure shitbags are still shitbags.

school, work, shopping.. it could be argued that anything can help increase the risk of infidelity. the real cause of infidelity is the shitbag people that have zero self control. period.

But unfortunately his interpretation of whatever information he have is wrong.

Social networking is just yet another means of socializing, which is something that we have been doing long before computers were invented. If a person is weak enough to cheat on their marriage, they will still equally as likely to do so with or without social networking sites as people will just find other means of socializing.

Well that settles it. Finally going to delete my Facebook. Can't be tempted to have threesomes with clergymen!

Religious nut or not... It seems to me like a simple case of blaming the Tool and not the Operator... -_-

The only 'proof' I have ever seen comes from people with a vested interest in promoting the idea, such as religion-based marriage counsellors:

http://www.vosizneias.com/69068/201...-infidelity-lurking-in-the-orthodox-community

It's like getting your vulnerability data from anti-virus software companies... if there were any data in this case.

People are always looking for something to blame other than themselves.
That's OK. In this case, everyone involved can seek forgiveness from Someone other than those they hurt, too. Convenient.

I didn't bother wasting my time reading the article, I did however, enjoying wasting time reading the posting about the article.

I try and keep my infidelity off facebook. Way too public there.

I jest

It is funny how all these people who proclaim their faith in God are the very same who sleep around, abuse their wives and children, and touch little kids.

Who's a pastor around here? Stay away from me! :)

Much as I am against the practice of religion, I'm not about to accuse them of being worse than the general population when it comes to this stuff... not without evidence, anyway. ;)

I have seen evidence that compatible religious views can keep couples together, but that says nothing of what they do behind their spouses backs.

Facebook doesn't lead to infidelity anymore than say a telephone does.

I don't actually agree with this. Facebook is entirely centered around mass social networking. Just by the huge emphasis on finding additional friends, you can tell that this is the case. Phones are more akin to a tool. Facebook is more akin to a social lifestyle. It's much much easier to argue that Facebook has a correlation with infidelity than phones.

I see that alot of you are missing the point here. Just take what is said with an ounce of consideration. No one is telling you to delete your Facebook account (if you even can). It's simply something to think about.

They should also start making women cover themselves head to toe. I mean, just the other day I saw this woman's bare ankle and I nearly got a nosebleed guys, that stuff shouldn't be legal.

Yeah, people are still responsible for their decisions. However, some things are just common sense. Should a woman be able to walk downtown in the middle of the street late at night stark naked and still not get molested? Yes, indeed, and its the assailants fault, not hers. But we'd all probably still tell her that was a bad idea and that people shouldn't do that. There are a lot of young adults on these forums that think they know a lot more than they do. Whatever you think, NO ONE gets married to get divorced. It is a failure and it devastates a lot of people - even if it has become common. Giving out advice to help people avoid things that could lead to divorce is a good idea. And yes, I have personally witnessed friends' marriages go down the tubes due to Facebook. It is not funny.

Bezant,

Such cases are the EXCEPTION, which is why they get so much attention. The only religious order having MAJOR problems is the Catholic Church, and that is because they capitulated to liberal activists and let gays become priests.

In a new book, the Pope says it's okay for homosexual prostitutes to use condoms. (Like a rent-a-boy cares about the Pope's opinion). I guess "no condoms" only applies to straights. Maybe "no sex" only applies to straight priests. :D

You get yourself in trouble when you throw common sense to the wind, which is what happened to the Catholic Church and which is what happened to a number of people getting friendly with old flames on Facebook.
