Thanks I'll check them all out.
There are other more "budget" coolers on the market that get very close, but these are pretty much at the top right now.
It seems like we're hitting a wall these days with overclocking. Every decent tower cooler seems to be able to cool enough to let you hit other limits (voltage, inherent CPU limits, fsb, etc). So find the best deal and go with it, IMO. I think the A70 is far and away the best deal to be had right now.
Yup. Heatpipes were a game changer. Simple copper couldn't conduct heat fast enough to make a massive sink effective, so the only way to increase cooling was with an extremely fast and loud fan.Yeah I remember having an extremely loud (7000RPM) $70 HSF and struggling to get my XP1900+ from 1.6 to 1.9ghz. Now I have a $30 HSF that I can't even hear, and it easily gets my CPU from 3 to 4ghz.
The only thing that hasn't changed is stock HSF's still suck.
I can't wait till we get vapor chamber blocks instead of pure copper bases for consumer CPUs - it should hopefully tame the 2.5lb+ or gtfo race a bit.Yup. Heatpipes were a game changer. Zalman 9900 MAX, I have a Zalman 9900A myself and it kicks ass. It's literally silent, it seems to get a lot of hate around here though.
