Black Ops so far let down

seems kinda like kneejerk reactions all around in the thread.

BTW, it is awesome that you're teaching your kid how to handle a gun properly, better than him later trying to handle a gun improperly and killing himself or someone.

And no, i do not support a ban on guns.

I would be happy if this game turned out to be MW2 WITH Dedicated Servers, which is why i didn't buy or play MW2 on any system or PC.

P2P FPS = lulz

Maybe he really really really really cares about multiple monitor support.

That's all fine and good, but if you knowingly invest in something that is niche, how can you really be surprised when things aren't supported by it? That's like me buying the Move and getting upset that not every game I like supports it. I did buy the move, but I realize there won't be that many games that support it so I'm not going to complain if a game doesn't.

it's true it's a niche now

but what about when it becomes more affordable for people?

i think multimonitor setups are the future, but not untill more games come out that take advantage of it, as well as the price of the setup coming down.

multimonitor setups are already used for non gaming purposes in the business world and entertainment world and have been for a while now.

For the folks waiting for proper widescreen support-- don't hold your breath. Same shit happened with the previous MW. I finally gave up and just play with a single display.

Maybe, maybe not. But quite honestly I have my doubts it will ever be anything other than a niche thing. Hell, most people still run 1024x768 and if you show them the proper res all they complain about is how small everything is:rolleyes:

I just can't see a very large number of people willing to invest into it, especially all the hassle you have to go through to get it right. I can't even convince my roommate that my Corsair HS1 headphones are better than his cheapo wal mart ones, and I've even offered to let him use them for a bit. Unless something is relatively cheap and very easy to setup with little to no hassle and people actually care enough to bother to try to see a difference people won't buy it. Not to mention space is an issue for many. I'd get it but I don't have enough space for it. Don't get me wrong, I know it's pretty awesome, but outside of [H] and other real hardcore users I just don't see it catching on.

Also, business environment != home environment.

dont forget people die from overdose every day, the government should ban ALL medicene.

As long as they ban fast food in the process, I'm for it. Oh and they must also assign midgets to stand by toilets to assist in wiping/flushing. Too much paper is wasted, and some people DOUBLE flush. Gah!

Am I the only person happy with this game? Runs great on my new rig, after past few days of 6870 RMA hell im relieved that this game runs awesome on just the one 6870.

After reading that IGN review, their major complaints are about a pretty major bug in single player, the reviewer didn't like the CoD points system as much as just unlocking things by leveling up, and small graphical things like dead bodies clipping.

All in all doesn't seem to be too bad (if you're mostly interested in multiplayer)...8.5 is still a good score.

The worst ones are when the kids take 80 pills to school and force the bullies to take them all, or when someone goes to rob/carjack/whatever someone and they force them to swallow 150 xanex.

lol...just watched the Machinima review, and they gave it 10/10...

I think if this turns out to be MW2 with DS, that's good enough for me!

Any parent that lets their Kid handle a 45 in the first place is a bad parent in my book. But that's a different discussion topic alltogether.

I could see where this would be a benefit...

*a robber breaks in, shoots mom and dad (non fatally of course since the robber is hopped up on suger smacks), and the kid grabs the 45 and saves his family...*

The chances of a child doing this in a violent situation under stress and fear are slim. Guess it depends on the kid though.

Can we get back on topic? Whats the verdict here guys. Black Ops worth it?

Played for 45 minutes. TONS of fun, it's definitely what MW2 should have been.

Also, sound effects are a massive improvement! Not quite as good as what Bad Company 2 has though, but close.

Yeah.... no.

I agree with the person you quoted.

Bad parent is bad.

Funny, I doubt you cared that Starcraft II didn't have it.

Seriously, if whether an otherwise good game doesn't support a very niche audience makes or breaks it for you, you seriously need to look at your priorities.

My bad, the WSGF had a patch out in 15 minutes. It DOES have multi-monitor support. Look, it does make or break it for me. I spent a lot of money on this system and for a specific reason - you would be the same way.

The reason I didn't buy SC2 is because they stated early that there would be no support. COD has had it (through WSGF) so it was only a matter of time. I know that's not possible with SC2.

Any parent that lets their kids play violent video games, on a school night nonetheless, are bad parents in my book.

Why do you care if I let my kid pay? I bet he will out shoot you with a real 45 and show you the proper way to handle a firearm.

As for the game the graphics are horrible. I've seen better graphics on games released 5 years ago.

Mac

I just read that Black Ops uses the same game engine as MW1, so how can the graphics look that bad?

MW1 looked amazing.

So i reread it again...
Game engine
The game runs on an enhanced World at War engine (which itself was improved from Call of Duty 4's) at 60 frames per second on consoles.[52] It features a streaming texture technology (also seen in Modern Warfare 2), making bigger levels possible such as "Payback" where the player controls a helicopter. Lighting effects have been improved as well.[53]
Call of Duty: Black Ops will support 3-D imaging rendered by the engine itself.[54] However, the required hardware for this feature will depend on the platform (except the Wii which does not support it).[

Music
Call of Duty: Black Ops will feature Vietnam War era music including The Rolling Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil"[51] and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son".[49] The music was composed by Sean Murrary, who also composer Call of Duty: World at War. The soundtrack was released on November 9th

it uses an enhaced WaW game engine, which is supposed to be an enhanced MW1 engine... but WaW looked like complete ass compared to MW1 so until I see BO graphics I cannot give an accurate opinion. I get it this afternoon though.

As for the music, I think this will make the game for me. The music is going to rock!

or better yet kid gets mad at parents for taking away his video game, grabs 45 and kills them

That has nothing to do with playing a game. I'm not sure this is the way to respond to whatever comment you were responding too either.

So far all the videos I've seen online show extremely shitty graphics. Much worse than the previous 3 Call of Duty games including Treyarch's own Call of Duty World at War. Some of the videos were of PC versions which I attributed to people turning the graphics settings down and this seemed to be the case given that some of the videos I saw had better graphics than others. It seems like no one is maxing it out though. Maybe that's just what they like to do for multiplayer, I don't know. The console versions looked shitty but I attribute that to them being consoles. :D

Come back in 3 or so months and tell me if you get VAC banned. While the widescreenfixer doesn't ban on Punkbuster in COD4, I contacted them to make sure, people have been banned by VAC on MW2 for using it. So while you can play single player just fine on Black Ops, the only way you know if your going to get a VAC ban will be when they drop it on you.

Not really. A lot of bad games like Medal of Honor get scores like that too.

I'm going to have to turn the music off if it's going to make me listen to shit like the Rolling Stones. I just don't care for most music from that era.

It's so horrible I don't even want to think about it.

Last time I pre-order a game from activision. Except for Diablo III.

Seriously, the gameplay feels so awful. The mouse tracking is console ported and feels like a joystick. Graphics suck, voice acting is ridiculous, the guns feel and sound like toys, the shooting and killing someone is so easy and even worse than Mw2. Movement is wooden and optimization is horrible you will probably get the worse fps out of any game.

Really shitty game imo and I have no one to blame but myself for pre-ordering. So disappointed.

but atleast with black ops as bad as it sounds we know its a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy, you can expect the same decent gameplay, MOH didn't have much to go with.

Medal of Honor is just a bland mixture of BFBC2 and CoDMW2. These things didn't mesh very well. I saw scores all over the net putting the game at 4 out of 5 stars or 8.5 / 10 etc. Scores which I thought were undeserved and overly generous.

See now, if that makes or breaks you from getting the game... You are pathetic. If anything you should have done your homework ahead of time to see ifthe game supported it. And because you spent all this money on a technology that is some what new to the gaming community and is not widely supported yet.... you think you are owed something? So your epenis just got a lil smaller now because a game doesn't support multiple moniters and you are gonna boycott? Just wow man.....

You can play games from many years ago that fully support resolutions like 5760x1200. You can get some 10+ year old games to work with eyefinity. Developers like Treyarch are just too lazy to implement all the features on their console ports.

The graphics nor sound so far have left me awe-struck. They're servicable.

The one thing that does bother me is the lag. This game runs silky smooth, yet jittery (it's really hard to describe). Sadly, I feel though like I'm running on ice, and shooting, or getting shot at will jump to the recoil spot, giving the perception of extreme lag.

Engines don't make graphics good mate. Game artist > Engine

Ya but 10 years ago we weren't playing with a triple monitor setup. It didn't matter. And today I bet less than 5% of the pc community have a eyefinity or surround rig. It's a special feature to have available bu not required to make a game . Just how SLI was when it first came back to life. It wasn't required to make a game but you as a gamer/builder wanted to have it a d knew the risks that not all games would support it. Just as not all games will support 3 montiors. It's not the norm right now nor will it ever be IMHO. Same as with SLI will no be the dominate solution for a gaming system.

Implementing passable support for Eyefinity/Surround is trivial. Effectively, if you support arbitrary resolutions by not restricting arbitrary resolutions, you're already more than halfway there. Typically the menu system and HUD are already designed to adjust dynamically to different aspect ratios and resolutions, so little to no work is involved there, either.

This. I originally asked why he lets his 10 y/o play this and nothing more, but decided it wasn't my business so therefore I changed my post to stay on topic, to those who are wondering.

I have not played MW2, assuming they never patch it for dedicated servers I never will play MW2.

I've played violent video games my whole life... irony is Climber is probably a meat-eater.~

Proper widescreen implementation should not be a feature, it should be a requirement. Widescreen monitors weren't exactly all the rage in 1999 but games like X Beyond the Frontier and Half-Life still supported them. There is no good reason to not support this new technology, it's a pretty straight forward implementation that other companies have been doing for the better part of a decade. I really don't see why you are defending them... unless...

Nice try Bobby Kotick, no one is going to agree with you on these forums.

It's based upon an enhanced WaW engine, which in term is an enhanced CoD 4 engine, which is an enhanced CoD 2 engine, which is an enhanced id Tech 3 engine.

Not surprising the graphics are a step back, but I'd like to see some screenshots to compare.

Does the PC version have any enhancements over the XBox 360/PS3 versions at all?

It could be just me but it feels like I'm playing this game on XBOX 360. The sounds, gameplay, visuals and physics are outdated. The last COD I played was the first Modern Warfare and it looks like nothing changed since then. Same engine, same gameplay i.e. prone shooting. I'll play this one off and on. Games are getting a bit stale in general. BFBC2 makes COD:BO look like a joke.
