GTX 580 rumors

I want to see some official reviews first. Its already the 8th, where are they?

I will be staying up until midnight (whatever time zone the nda is set for).

I'm guessing the NDA isn't dropping right at midnight, even PST... last rumor I heard was 11am EST/8am PST on Nov. 9th. Still, I'll be staying up as well... :(.

We can always check guru3d for an accidental (cough ullshit) leaked article :D

Actually, it directly translates to about $550, taking VAT (17.5%), and the current exchange rate (1.62) into account
- so, that would probably work out to $499 Stateside, given that it's not unusual to add 10% for the pleasure of entering the UK market.

Yeah, Sabre PC had a webpage up that listed the EVGA card at $499. Not sure if it is still up or not though.

Hey all,

Not sure if I just missed it somewhere in the thread, but is [H] planning a review released some time tomorrow?

Also, does anyone have an idea as to when Newegg might have pre-orders available? I don't even see the 580 listed on their site as of yet.

For performance increase alone, I probably wouldn't bother, since there's nothing that taxes my 480 with everything maxed-out. But if the 580 is cooler and quieter on top of the performance increase, I'm thinking I might pull the trigger on the 580 if I can get it from the Egg, which is the only retailer I ever use anymore.

I'm up to my eyes in sad nvidia drivers myself and still wondering wtf they are releasing a new card when they still aren't even close to fixing the drivers for their existing shit. 3DVS support and driver problems are a sad cruel joke right now and they know about the problems and still haven't fixed them. FAIL.

I only game with my video cards so I wouldn't know about additional features. I've had every 58/5900 card and the GTX 480 was the most hassle free. The 6870 continues the trend and I won't be surprised if the rumors of imcomplete drivers/bios of the 6970 are true. I had the hardware, not just talking about it. Your SLI will naturally have problems from time to time but it's nothing compared to AMD.

$579 at a microcenter in minnesota, guess they tried to buy it but it wasnt in the system so a manager came and gave the clerk a dirty look and took it away.

looks like a hard launch to me

$499 online then is my guess... hopefully 10% off with newegg code!

You know what this means...someone will surely score one today somewhere some how. Now this is post worthy. Drool incoming... :D

Definitely doing that! :D

Man, I am excited now. Seeing the PDXLAN video, made me even more excited! Fairly impressed with the tessellation prowess of the GTX580. Sure it was an Nvidia tech demo and the landscape was not very complex to say the least, but those damage displacements made by what looked like a phaser really made me drool :D I have been hoping for game devs to get going with stuff like this for ages. Not just in the Solder of Fortune kind of way, but more along the lines of really being able to "eat into" geometry on characters (armor for instance), or add to them, for that matter. Very very useful to get morphing displacement going on this level. So many awesome perspectives in this tech, devs please dont fall asleep behind the wheel here! The city was very ugly IMHO, but hey it was procedurally "designed", but quite impressive in terms of poly count.

I am hoping newegg will have one 580 available for me tomorrow, I am ready to own an Nvidia card for the first time since GeForce4Ti 4400, yes I had a good run with ATI lol. Anyway my newly purchased ASUS HD6870 was a dud. ASUS is telling me newegg sold me a used item, that was resealed. Short story, it had been molested prior to me getting it and turned out faulty as well.

There is the end of all the paper launch rumors. So the card is available in volume and shipped to all major retailers one can assume. Looks like hard launch indeed. Now hopefully Cayman will not disappoint and launch as scheduled.

Nice pic, did you take it yourself? Also did you get a chance to look at the whole box and read it? Any 3d surround on a single card info?

someone posted it on the evga forums, unfortunatly the closes microcenter from me is about 200 miles away.

i wonder if anyone st best buy has slipped up yet, they seem pretty good at that.

I've never seen even a gtx480 in a st. louis area BB store yet. Saw a 470 one time though.

Yeah, there's a code that gives 10% off VGA site-wide that's good through the 12th, so we should be set :D : Try to apply code EMCZZYR24 when ordering. I know I will be!

Is that the actual same site-wide code? Or is there a different code for every customer to be found elsewhere?

Best buy doesn't sell $500+ dollar videocards in their stores, unless you live in a rich people area. They sell those on the website. Actually I'm surprized you find the GTX 470 at a best buy. The stores by me carry no more than a 5770 or GTX 460/465

THE REVIEW

Mirror quickly!!!!!!!!!

The card has two DVI ports and one one mini-HDMI port. According to NVIDIA the card also supports DisplayPort if board partners want to use it. Unlike AMD's latest GPUs, the output logic design is not as flexible. On AMD cards vendors are free to combine six TMDS links into any output configuration they want (dual-link DVI consuming two links), on NVIDIA, you are fixed to two DVI outputs and one HDMI/DP in addition to that. NVIDIA confirmed that you can use only two displays at the same time, so for a three monitor setup you would need two cards.

whelp, fuck this card. Whats the point in having the ultimate fastest card if you can only play at 2560x1600 without buying two of them? I doubt the AMD card will be much slower (if at all) and WILL have support for multiplemonitors on a single card. I really had hopes they would allow nvidia surround without sli, but they didn't. My next graphics card will be amd.

The actual card just like what reviews say, it's nothing but what GTX 480 originally is for gamer.

If you already have GTX 480 and not worry about power issue, this card isn't for you. You can overclock it on GTX 480 to outperform it quite easy if you know what you are doing.

I don't know why Tech give them a editor's choice, I wouldn't say the card have a great value IMO..
It should target around 400 at most to compete...
The card should most likely to be GTX 485, don't know what nVidia is thinking...

PS: there is suppose to be one more card this year follow by GTX 580.. Don't have much info on that one yet... :)

The GTX 580 is faster in the DX11. The 5970 is faster in DX10 games.
Crysis is going to be a DX11 hog.

Well the card is about 15-17% faster with 20W less in idle/average/peak.
Not so impressive for a new name. And not so impressive for the price claimed.

Maybe a 570?

Because 1920x1200x3 is still 70% more resolution than 2560x1600. So take the 2560x1600 frame rates on the newer games and cut them almost in half and that's what you're going to get. If you're fine with the frame rates of a single card, or are doing less than that then just grab 2x 460 1GBs and you'll be fine and cheaper.

10% improvement? That's it? Well, at least you guys who pre-ordered should be ecstatic. So much for 20-30%.,,,,,,

I haven't understood in this page what is maximum power consumption and peak power consumption.

what is the difference?

why in the maximum graph we can see a result and a result without limiter?
when this limiter came on? and why when the limiter is on it cap the GPU to 150W?

This is likely just the first step in current monitoring. Seems like something they just added after the thought here, next GPU I'm guessing it will be much more integrated with finer grain throttling. For home users this is kinda worthless feature, but for clusters this is going to be really important.

Really 580 performance just looks like a 480@850mhz core. I might be interested in a 580 depending how well it ocs... if I can get some aftermarket cooler (non-water) with voltmod and get core up to 900mhz I might be interested. In any case waiting till xmas.

Oh yeah 55->33watt idle is nice drop. I don't care about full load power draw, the other 20 hours a day are more important. Not that 20 watts is a big deal, rather I like silence when not gaming.

Overclock reached of around 890mhz top with voltage before throttling kicked in, still low noise... 835mhz without voltage and low temps/noise still, not bad... looks like an overall gain of 20% roughly in newer games. MSRP was indeed $499, if that code works for newegg tomorrow I am likely grabbing 2 for $450/ea... Looks like a solid card... 2560x1600 performance for the win!

10%? http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_580/16.html Nuh-uh.

Not as much as I was hoping (30% maybe) but it seems to be a solid 20-22% @ 2560 with new games. We'll see what other reviews show too...

.
The final results and the benchmark results were different. If it's only 10% then it's not a good buy.
I had the 480 OC to 850MHz and it was a beast. Heat and noise was too much though.

About what I expected, typical refresh product delta over the previous generation. I'd love to see Surround and 3D Surround numbers which I imagine [H] will have at least Surround numbers tomorrow AM.
