when i get mine it will b ontop of my center channel but my center channel rests on top of my TV. do you guys think that will b too high? it adds about 8 inches from the top of my tv

I may pick on up IF there is anything worthwhile released. I am waiting for developers to intergrate this into actuall game features, rather than Wii knock off releases.

Would like to see head tracking in Forza.

Fair enough, but it's somewhat more than a glorified tech demo. Same goes for Fitness Evolved and Kinectimals.

No, mainly because you can calibrate and perform manual tilts on Kinect to fit it to your living room.

edit. Holy shit, I finally put in Dance Central and um ... this game fucking rocks.

Except for the rear speaker wires running down the middle of the floor and under the rug.

Haha yeah... If I had my way I would have the wires go under the under and up the flooring. But I'm renting, so no can do :( When I have the time, i'll probably buy some cable floor covers.

I had problems with mine on my center channel and ended up buying a wall mount. It worked fine for a bit, then kept saying it was moved and needed to re-calibrate.

o maybe because the vibration from the speaker... hmmmmmay have to figure out a new spot for it but my set up is anti kinect friendly

I started by setting on a tv tray in front of the tv, and it worked. By I eventually found a wall mount designed for kinect at gamestop. Took me 5 minutes to install and works great...

I think I'm likely to put a shelf behind my TV with Kinect on top of it.

I guess this is what separates people. There is nothing appealing to me about getting an expensive toy to dance with in my apartment.

Kinect costs less than I paid for my last high end metal DDR pad, so it's win win for me. :D

It does make me laugh to see so many people posting about looking stupid playing it (not specifically here, but everywhere). I never knew everyone was so self concious / lacking in self confidence. Thankfully as a guy in my 30s I stopped caring what people thought of me 15+ years ago so I can just have fun. \o/

Yeah, kinect might work if you have a large living room. You need 16feet of empty living room space for 2 players, and that's barely enough. But reports are pretty dismal for a new product launch. Game reviews are sitting down at 70% and below (with dance being the exception at a low 80%), and the tech doesn't work as advertised: you can't navigate through the menus/movies with hand waggling unless it's in Zune. No netflix support. No USB/local net support.

Yea you do need a good deal of space for this. Friend kicked his coffee table last night while playing it drunk. With 2 of us playing at a time(like 6 of us screwing with this all drunk) it got interesting but we managed to avoid really hurting anyone.

Serious question, sort of...can you punch the animals in Kinectimals?

My friend had picked up the kinect with a bunch of games and that is like the one game we didn't open. We played the sports, adventure, some shitty driving game, and the dace game. I was thinking the same thing through.

Anyway I question the long term use of this system but it is interesting. I'll prob pick one up in the future. I have a feeling it will end up like the wii though. Pretty much a party game setup that doesn't get touched for almost everything else. With my wii pretty much tiger woods and the first party nintendo games(the all of the mario ones, smash brothers, etc). Hasn't been used since mario galaxy 2. I kinda see this being the same way. It will get used for some party games but past that collect dust. It remains to be seen though.

kinect desperately needs a game like black and white where you can teach your animal a good lesson if its out of order lol. Infact Black and white would be the perfect game for kinect ripping out trees, throwing civilians etc!!

Cant find a kinect sensor kit to save my life. Everywhere is sold out. "But we do have Xbox Slim Kinect bundles available!".

I'm not concerned with looking stupid, more it being stupid.

What's stupid about it? You either like the games or you don't... not liking them doesn't make them stupid. Unless you think everything should be tailored to your desires? Hmm?

I'm just stating my opinion. You said people should like them or not. Well we would obviously have reasons for liking them or not liking them. Thus my reason for not liking them is I think they are stupid.

theNoid thinks playing a dancing game is great. Nothing wrong with that. But that's where the difference is.

Picked up two nights ago. in short areas, high mounting the sensor is a must. i can't do it and the 6ft i got to work with is sometimes problematic. KintectAdventures handles it much better than Sports does. yes the launch games are as simple and not much more than tech demo's (Dance Central excluded), but they are as a whole every bit as much fun as the Wii balance board games. Given how much the 360 has matured from its launch, i got no doubt the kinect will do the same. i can see the motion capture getting better as well as the voice commands expanding. with luck games will allow kinect owners to use it for view point control based on head movement.

It doesn't have the resolution to track head turning for viewpoint control.

I played for about 4 hours last night. It was great fun but also very frustrating. The voice commands are hokey, the accuracy was not terribly impressive, and the lag is very evident to anyone that doesn't have at least 4 beers in them before playing. I have about a 12 foot by 8 foot space to play in, and it still wasn't enough for two adults. If anyone crosses over each other even by a little bit it seems to just forgot where body parts are. Next time we play, the sensor is going to be raised over the TV and up against the wall.

Soccer in Kinect Sports was the highlight. I managed to rip a bunch of skin off my hand hitting the ceiling while playing volleyball, that sucked :(

This was starting to interest me but there are too many specific negatives being highlighted and for £120 that's just not good enough.

Need to try and get some demo time.

I got it for my son, he has been having a blast with Kinectimals. The hardware has potential, but overall it'll depend on the software.

Was anyone else disappointed that you can not navigate the entire Xbox menu with the Kinect?

yeah, seems pretty lame that I can't launch xbla titles by name while sitting on the kinect hub. feels hokey to exit the kinect hub, pull up the dadhboard, then launch the game from the dashboard using a controller.

If you are only using the shelf for kinect, just get the wall mount. A lot of places will say it doesn't come out until mid November, but thats not true. I got mine from gamestop for $15. Was all of 5 minutes to get it on the wall.

I took advantage of the target buy 2 get one free sale and picked up Kiect Sports, Dance Central and Joy Ride... I've been having a blast with all of them! The only game that I've played that feels like a real game is Dance Central. Everything else is fun, but it's "wii sports fun".

Dance Central really seems to have it's shit together. The controls are very "minority report" and the game is actually pretty fun. If you're looking for a game, this is probably the one to pick up.

Joy Ride is fun, but I don't see it lasting long. It's not a difficult game (you don't have a gas pedal or brake, but how could you with the limited number of controls that kinect offers?), but you can do a speed burst and a tricks while you're in the air. It's fun -- like Mario Kart is fun, but I think I'd still rather play Mario Kart over Joy Ride (once the novelty wears off).

Kinect Sports is probably what they should have sent with the game. It's a bunch of mini games like Wii Sports.

I've got my sensor mounted just over 6 feet. I my room is 15x15 with about a 8x8 playing area due to my furniture arrangement. I don't have to move anything to play most games.

So far, Kinect has been pretty reliable. It has it's hiccups, but it seems a lot better now that it's permenantly mounted on the wall. It also works vere well in lowlight. I've got 60' of rope lights around my ceiling tucked into molding. It doesn't give off enough light to read by, but it's there for watching movies. Kinect sees and responds just fine with this light.

And be warned -- it's taking pictures of you while you're playing. If you don't want your nudie picture taken, wear clothes! :)

I do not see any use for a serious gamerm great for kids or casual gamers.Move on the other hand once you get calibrated is great for fps games like MAG lol serious gamers don't even like console controllers keyboards and mice are the norm. .

a friend of mine bought the Kinect. I find it very childish & to me for 150 bucks its not worth it. Thats just my opinion

Just bought the 250gb combo with fitness ubisoft for the wife.

Looks fun

I find the kinect loses track of me at 8 feet. Does anyone else? I wish i could adjust that cause i find when i play it i tend to crawl forward and then it loses track of me when i get too close.

I stopped by the kinect storefront in toronto yesterday...

They have a whole 2 floor display and demo area with ~10 kinects set up.

It felt like it was out of control. The ping pong game was... terrible. It had trouble sensing backhand swings, and I couldn't figure out a way to add curve to the ball.
They had a dj playing music, so the dancing game was impossible to get into. No rhythm... 2 different songs playing at the same time...

Boxing looked like a wailfest. Just swingswingswing as fast as you can.

The best thing about the experience was the hot asian girl who started talking to my friend and I about android phones, and made a rooted droid appear out of her bra. Haha awesome.

If you do a speed bag punch in front you, you will *never* lose a game of boxing. Its ridiculous and broken, the game just wigs out and destroys the other person you are fighting with unblockable hits. You win every fight in about 6 seconds.

I haven't had any problems with ping pong. It's fairly accurate. To hit it backhand, just swing backhand -- but do it earlier than when you want to hit it (not too early).

To put a spin on it, when you swing, swing down.

If you've got a lot of people standing around watching -- I can see where kinect is going to get confused and might loose tracking. But every once in a while my dog or cat will walk through the playing field, and it just ignores them, but if people on the couch behind me starting moving around a lot, it seems to start tracking oddly.

I picked one up on launch and have been really enjoying Dance Central. Just like in real life you dance better (or think you dance better) after a few drinks. For those taking about lag, it could be your TV. Turn on game mode and turn off any additional processing. It helps and while the Kincet isn't 1:1 it's pretty damn close.
