HoN or Lol?

IP Boosts don't allow you to buy runes faster? The game is a crappy cash shop and the pvp experience is like going back in time with poor visuals to boot.

Why do you keep speaking of the pvp experience as though the game offered something else?

Buying IP boosts is not buying an advantage... give me a break.

I get it, you dont like the game do you really even know why? Or are you just content making up reasons?

If it's not an advantage why would people spend real money on buying ip boosts? Sorry - it's a cash shop, people spend money on microtransactions. How would those who play WoW react if Blizzard made it possible to buy boosts that doubled the honor and arena points earned? They'd definitely consider it an advantage, ip boosts are purchasing an advantage over other players.

In wow those boosts would give you armor wich makes a massive difference in LoL it can get you runes quicker which is a very tiny difference.

You clearly no nothing about the game if you honestly believe runes offer such an advantage.

You are comparing apples and oranges. Runes are not anywhere near as powerful as you have convinced yourself.

A full rune page offers a significant advantage versus those with none. it is impossible to buy good runes and be able to buy new champions at the same time unless you start throwing money at the game.

Significant my ass man. Its not even the equivalent of an extra item. You shouldnt even bother with runes until you are level 20+. You dont need to buy any champs there are 10 free ones and if you really like one buying him up takes no time.

You are exaggerating badly and look like an ignorant fool. Do you really think everyones as clueless as you or just dont know better?

10 times out of 10 skill will trump runes the difference is minor.

I started saving for runes at level 20 and had a full page by 30 from there all you need for the second pages in most cases is a new set of reds. Quit exaggerating already...

In fact im willing to bet you never even made it past level 20 and are talking purely out of your ass.

I don't like the game for additional reasons in my initial post. I really dislike microtransactions, however, as I started earlier it plays like a shallow rts mod from the 90s. It feels far too much like a simple RTS where you only control a single unit and basically play one map. I know it's based on DoTA but that's no excuse. Sorry mate, the game is trash because of gameplay and graphics and is f2p for a reason. Skill wise you're juggling 4 character abilities and two selected abilities which does not allow for much depth. Diablo 2 and DoTA were great when they were new, but if either were released today as retail games they would not be well received. If someone feeds or leaves it makes for a very poor game experience, and that's a big issue for me. I give the game a 6/10.

Two things...1st If you don't like the genre, then WHY are you posting on a thread when the guy is asking for opinions on which to get into.

2nd, runes? You serious? You think runes will stop a new player from getting stomped to high hell and back? Runes? Really?

I don't care about other people. If I'm not having fun I'm gonna take steps to have fun. If that means quitting the game to find a new group to play with then so be it.

Both HoN and LoL have something to deter you from leaving. Since you don't like that, go play DotA.

I've played LOL for 5+ months an d NEVER once have I spent money on anything except one skin (the WW Urf skin).

I have 2 full rune pages (for ad and one for ap) and have enough IP to usually buy new heroes everytime they come out if I want.

As long as you play a few matches a day it's not hard at all to get the IP for anything you need. Just takes time.

As far as "Depth" goes, in both HoN and LoL there are a LOT of things to consider as depth that go far beyond your usual plain RTS games (IE WC3, AGe of empires, etc type of RTS games).

You have to have map awareness, call mia's, know who you are up against and w hen to engage/not to, decide when is a good time to use your summoner skills or not and know your hero well.

You can't just walk into a fight willy nilly.

I've played all 3, though I've only taken HoN and LoL seriously.

HoN was pretty, and I liked the tweaks it had over DOTA. The thing that bugged me the most about HoN was that it always seemed to be one player per team doing all the work.

LoL is about on par with the wc3 engine for graphics. The simplified shop UI and stats (damage, mitigation, movement speed, etc.) were a welcome change over what I felt was rather confusing in HoN. Runes and summoner abilities bring a unique twist to the game as well.

When push comes to shove, they're all about the same. Personally, I play LoL because it's free and my friends play it.

Yes, I know about /surrender. It unlocks at 25 minutes if I'm not mistaken.

Go play something else then please. Nobody likes playing with cry babies.

I love the fact that this system pisses you off. Feels like a bit of karma after all those years of dota.

While a rune page does give you an advantage.... full rune pages in no way automatically makes you good

I'm only around lvl 24-25 and I can't count how many times I've thrashed LVL 30's with 300+ wins.

I like both but in the end I prefer LoL over HoN, I really like LoL's change of pace and it's nice that it's shop interface isn't a total mess like the one in HoN.

Care to comment on the total mess of the shop interface? Its pretty self explanatory.......it's a freaking shop!

EDIT
I do not even know how i found this Thread on google but....It is proof why noobs are not allow in HON.

1. Op is mad he gets hit from across the map. it could be thunderbringer's ult or Pharaoh's missle. Who cares? a move is a move
2.Another dude says theres a tank that can crit for 1k called decapitate. Its not a crit at all,and it just hits them for 625 at most
3. Last page someone complains about gaining armor the higher the level you are AND says dota is better............This IS DOTA!!

This just proves they need to learn the basic mechanics of the game

Defend it all you want but there is good reason its the biggest complaint about HoN. The shop interface is garbage.

well im defending the game it self but a shop is a shop. Im not trying to say LOL's shop is bad or anything. Hon shop has like what 8 tabs to click? all in EASY to understand topics. Protection, support, combat? WTF is wrong with that? you can even 1 click buy if you want.
Show me some proof that its the biggest complaint Cuz i do have an open mind and maybe if i read other complaints then i can see where they are coming from.

+1

Anyone who comes up with an unbalanced argument has obviously not learned how to play the game. Goes for both LoL and HoN.

As far as the shop, I have never played LoL but I cannot imagine the shop is that much easier to navigate. It took me a few games to understand what to buy but generally most of the basic items can be found in the recommended tab...not much work imo. In fact you can just use recommended items and get a pretty decent build.

Edit: Will probably be buying dota2 but HoN serves as a nice filler.

What proof do you want? how about for starters whenever there is a comparison between lol and hon the shop gets mentioned constantly.

I hate whiny little bitches as much as you I'm sure, but at the same time, the expectation that anyone who plays the game should be skilled is blatantly unrealistic, and a good way to kill a game. If you look at almost any of my previous posts in the gaming section you'll also see that I very much prefer games that distinguish good players from bad, but the fact is there has to be a learning curve, not a plateau which new players can never reach unless they are somehow naturally skilled. If you're with/against people who are far less skilled, then that's really a flaw in the matchmaking system.

LoL shop is better, more intuitive. BUT, play enough of either game and you'll be able to find everything.

It's kind of sad that we are fighting amongst ourselves, that fact is quite indicative of both game's communities. Even the CSS vs CS1.6 argument boiled down to: "We both like our version, enjoy it they are different." Why don't we take the high road, embrace this community, and make this a positive interaction instead of going at each other like rabid dogs. (Which I've done on more than one occasion.)

Why not just give our usernames/tags to the new player and play a round or two? HoN and LoL people can both appreciate the value of a good team. I wish someone from [H] brought me in when I started. From scratch teaching myself wasn't the most fun.

Who said I was crying? Sorry, my enjoyment of a game takes priority over that of everyone else.

Ok sorry, correction.

Please never play LoL and HoN, nobody likes rage quitters that act like babies. Same message but I guess you had to say something to not look like a fool.;)

I've pretty much given up on LoL. I'll probably dabble with it here and there. I got about ten bucks worth of game points left.

Some real differences I have noticed between HoN and LoL:

HoN has two sides to every battle with an entirely different cast of heroes. LoL has the same characters to choose from for both sides.

HoN has creep kill/gold denial from DoTa. You cannot kill your own creeps in LoL.

HoN has bonuses that spawn in certain places on the map. In LoL you have to kill neutral creeps in the jungle to get bonuses.

very true, but in the US competitive scene it seemed like they were trying to force CSS down our throats and when it failed the whole competitive scene died basically.

in LoL you won't get steamrolled by someone simply cause of the hero they chose, and if you're good and smart you can see ganks coming and get away and in some occasions a properly used summoner spell will save you.

in Dota and HoN you'll get raped just cause some guy picked an OP hero and you'll get chain stunned / slowed and die simply cause the other heroes OP, no amount of running away before hand or tower hugging will save you.

Then you obviously dont know how to counter said OP hero.

^ yea only way to counter is if you got a shit load of money to out gear them or simply pick a hero thats counter to that hero

Sorry but you had a fail argument. You can just as easily see ganks happening in HoN. Pay attention to minimap and listen to team ss calls. Sure there are a handful of heros that rape early game. First thing that comes to my mind is devourer, he is a bitch to deal with sometimes but its not like he is going to ruin the game unless your team feeds. Out of the MANY HoN games I have played, I honestly do not feel the game is unbalanced. Like I said though, if you do not know how to play it will seem unbalanced.

^ so basically every time you see an MIA your telling me to just go back to base.

I'm not saying ganks don't happen, i'm perfectly content with getting ganked, its my fault for getting ambushed.

But when I know someone is coming and he just dives tower or chases you across the whole map in a 1v1 situation and you can't run away / out dps him there's basically nothing you can do to counter it.

Perfect example would be ursa or drow in dota

...........this guy sounds like he gets mad when he has a pistol and the guy that killed him has an awp.

Then you obviously dont know how to counter said OP hero.

While there can be said to be a counter for every hero, in HoN there are more true hard carry types of heroes vs. LoL. In HoN, certain OP characters once they're farmed enough, it's basically instant GG if you don't have an equally strong hard carry (though you could argue it's your own damn fault for letting them farm that hard but that's another argument). I personally feel this effect is lessend in LoL but maybe things are different now in HoN (I played from the beginning of beta testing to the end of beta testing) and then for a few months after release on various friend's accounts and during the free weekends.

100% agreed. If other team has say scout, and team lets him get farmed with no hard carry to counter...it is gg.
