The Civilization V Thread

Anyhow, I had been hoping for a midnight release on Steam, which is what happened recently with Mafia 2 and Kane and Lynch 2, but it looks like it's not happening.

Seven o'clock tomorrow morning Pacific Time is when this thing is going to release.

Tell me about it.

I have F1 2010 and Civ V both pre-loaded, but I won't be able to launch them until after dinner. I might look at Civ V before I head out the door.

Everyone is saying that visually Civ V is stunning. God I can't wait to see it.

I have to wait another 72 hours, because I live in europe and 2K decided not to release Civ5 worldwide at the same time

its actually pretty common that EU releases are delayed a day.. though game publishers excuse is that they dont want the game releasing 8 hours before its released in the US so instead EU has to wait 24 hours after its released in the US.. makes a lot of sense doesnt it.. lol but again it all depends on the publishers..

Classes are going to feel very long tomorrow.

loool, oh yeah.

Downloading the preload off Steam right now...and I have off from work today!

I can't wait for this. I have to finish my programming assignment before I can play :(. I'm almost done, though :D.

Anyway, I pre-ordered from Amazon and they sent it with release day delivery by FedEx. Does anyone know if FedEx always requires a signature? I'll probably still be on campus when the FedEx guy comes by.

My release day deliveries from Amazon haven't required signatures in the past when they used FedEx.

released on steam as of 7am(pacific time) and now it's just verifying files for me and taking forever. But soon, so very soon, I shall be playing.

ya ontime release amazing but the verification will jump from 40 to 100 eventually.

but then you got a 995MB patch aftwerwords mostly deluxe edition extras i think

Ok, why the hell is the retail box embedded with Steam? This is annoying.

Still annoying.

I miss the days of just installing a game and playing it. I guess the brave new world will leave me behind.

So just install it and play it. You can still install the game from the disc. Its not like you have to wait for it to download. It just runs through Steam and you don't need a disc ever again.

I am old school. I still buy my music on CD's and my book on bound paper. I like holding a physical product.

The steam thing is just an annoyance.

I'd buy CDs if 90% of the music on them wasn't complete shit with only 1 or 2 good songs (if that) per disc for most groups. I do however buy records from time to time. As for books, completely agree. I do have ebooks, but only public domain free stuff. Games I really don't care. Physical, digital, whatever. As long as it works.

Well the music being complete shit is another gripe for another day... lol.

Ok, starting Civ 5 now... :D

Whelp... got to play 20 mins with the Aztecs so far(just running around and exploring the UI and killing barbarians). Now I must go to work before I really do call in sick :D

Well the way is I figure it, I have lost tons of game discs and CD keys in the past. So far steam hasn't lost me a single one. I'm enjoying the future.

Played for about 30 minutes. Seems pretty slick although the interface will take some getting used to.

One minor annoyance, I don't like you have to click on the icon above the tile in order to select ones to purchase. I keep clicking on the tile itself and it does nothing. Not a big deal though.

working fine here.

Very similar to civ IV but the interface changes do take some getting used to. Seems to be less micro managing intensive. I guess that could be good or bad.

Srsly. Last game I bought retail was DoW2 Chaos Rising and only because I could register it with Steam. Also when you reformat it's nice to just turn Steam on and leave it on all night to get all your games, no more baby sitting discs and carefully punching in CD Keys.

Ran fine for me first thing this morning. I was late for work due to the "One more turn!" syndrome kicking in.

Played the demo this morning and it was awesome. I was really sad when I hit 100 turns and it stopped. I think I will be buying this one shortly.

Ran fine on my laptop, too. I'm currently at work and can't delve into it but it sure started fine and i had no problems starting a new game either. I gotta wait until i get back home to further play and also to see if it runs on my desktop.

anyone trying to run this thing on intel HD graphics? (core i3, i5, i7)

thats all I'm going to have for a few days while i'm away from the house (and hence, my desktop...)

Yep. It's nice not having to worry about DRM, and it is the reason that I am going to install and play Civ 5 today (after work, I may have to take the vomit suggestion and leave early, but thank you Amazon for getting it to me in such a timely fashion), even though I am building a new rig as soon as next week.

Ok, runs great on my Lenovo W700 with C2D @2.8, 8GB RAM, 1GB Video Card.

New UI takes some getting used to. Kinda annoying at times. Lots of bubbles and shit all over the place.

Not sure if I like the new way units transport over water. You used to have to build transport ships and haul them over, now they just turn into a ship and go.

New combat system is awesome. You can actually defend strategic areas on the map. No more unit stacking is hard to get used to.

Auto gen maps are good too. I see fewer equally spaced blocks, more natural.

Easy is VERY easy... lol.

AI is FAR better than ever before. AI seems to care if it survives.
