Been lookin for a new FPS for my desktop. I've always liked Halo but not sure if it would be as good multiplayer for PC. I'd consider getting it for the XBOX but I still want a new PC FPS...suggestions? And does anybody have Halo Reach for the PC? If so how's online experiance?

Oh, nope..wasn't kidding. Seriously thought it was for PC too. Kinda fail on that one...still, any recommendations?

Bad Company 2 is great MP wise, can try COD MW2, or the new one that's about to come out.

Well, see, Microsoft runs their mouth about how they love PC gaming and doesn't want it to die, yet doesn't do anything about it themselves. Until a couple recent announcements, Microsoft all but gave up on developing on the PC for the past 5 years.

If they think developing an API is the end of their PC gaming contribution, they're mistaken. It would be like them not developing first party titles for the 360. It's stupid.

Battlefield Bad Company 2
Call of Duty 4 (since CODMW2 is abortionate on all levels)
Team Fortress 2

That should get you started.

+1 to Team Fortress 2,
Counter Strike: Source
BF:BC2 is not bad, but not great either. DICE needs to make better hit recognition and better online coding.

a long time ago in a far away place, I saw Bungie get bought out by Microsoft and all the expectations of Halo on PC were shattered on the ground as Halo made the new XBOX a legitimate threat to the playstation 2. :X

BLEAH.

kudos to reminding me how halo was gutted and stolen from the PC :(

What would you have them develop for the PC? How many times have you seen PC gamers proclaim Gears and halo as "consolized trash"? All the niche titles like Mech games and Turn based strategy games don't really sell all that much anymore, and the budget o those would have to be small to make any money off of it.

They're not going to do it for free, you know.

If I were you I'd just get it on the Ps3. The Ps3's controller is so much better, plus the graphics are better. Plus you won't have to worry about red ring of death.

PS3 is a great console BUT:

- Saying the controller is better is 100% opinion....personally, I like the 360 controller better, and I've spent a lot of time playing both consoles.

- Fact is most games actually look better on the 360 (you can find countless comparisons online). The exception to that rule is the 1st party PS3 exclusives like Uncharted 2 (but then again, we'll never know what those games would look like on 360 either).

- RRoD isn't really an issue anymore if you've bought the console in the past year or two.

Bottom line = get the system that has the games you want to play; they are both good.

It was a joke. Obviously he can't get Halo reach on the PS3...

I think it's called reading. I could be wrong, but you should try doing it more often.

Don't you mean gutted and stolen from the Mac?
Stever Jobs announced it at MacWorld for both the PC and Mac... shortly before MS bought Bungie (which was admittedly, one of the first few to develop good games for the mac and got a close following of fans as a direct result).

It's called a response to a possible troll attempt.

Just see what happens in quite a few threads in the console section... partly into the thread, somebody makes some obsecure reference to how their mouse is *in their opinion* superior to any controller (for anything), and all hell breaks loose as a result.

So crush the damn bug before it ever spreads :D

Meh, I read it as "If I were you I'd just get a PS3" since the topic had moved from Halo: Reach to "what is a good FPS to get." My bad I suppose.

Just get a 360 and Reach. Reach is an awesome... awesome shooter. Once you finish Reach, then start picking up all the awesome 360 exclusives for cheap and catch up.

PC FPSs.... there are quite a few (as of 2010)

Metro 2033
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Singularity
Aliens vs. Predator (3)
Battlefield: Bad Company 2
NecrovisioN: Lost Company
BioShock 2

Are you serious??

FREELANCER 2 WOULD BE FUCKING EPIC

Canned :(

I'm still peeved about MS pulling Freelancer's multiplayer master list, too. There are alternatives, but none as good (IMO) as the master server list.

That, and the last demo videos showed it as an xbox game (or rumours say...).

Heaven forbid JW do any reading and keep his trolling to a minimum. No where in the OP did he say he had a PS3 - if he's looking for a game, he's obviously not going to shell out hundreds of dollars for a console for just 1 game.

Don't you dare turn this thread into another console wars thread! I'm so sick of that crap.

Pickup the Orange Box via. Steam (wait for a sale if you want).
Bad Company 2 is a blast if you have a nice PC.

such a fantastic game with LOADS of potential... a shame they don't realize this and do something with it :(

Yes, because Trolls go away when you "Crush" them :) Long story short, if you suspect a Troll, don't feed it. That's internet 101.

As for PC FPS, lots of good suggestions in here. I'll just reiterate a few.

Counterstrike: Source - Graphics are obviously blah at this point and it lacks the fancy bells and whistles of more modern games, but it rewards skill more than most. If you can aim, and work together as a team, you will do well. Also, as far a competitive scene, it's where it's at. It's a game that seemingly will never die as well (tons of people still play 1.6 for gods sake). You'll never have trouble finding a full server to play on.

Stalker SoC/CoP - Not a multi-player FPS, but still a fun single player series. It's engrossing and challenging (on the harder settings). That said, at this point, I would only play with the 2009 Complete and Clear Sky mods, otherwise you may be disappointed in the graphics a bit.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 - Fairly good multi-player. I've definitely played worse. However, this game really shines in the single player campaign. It's been a while since I've enjoyed campaign mode on a FPS as much as I did in BC2. It is a bit resource heavy, so unless your computer is up to snuff (say, a decent quad core, 4 or more gigs of ram and at least a HD 5770 or GTX 260), you may not get the full visual experience out of it (it looks pretty nice at full settings I've gotta say). The game play is more than worth it though, even if you have to play it at lower settings.

Those are the first 3 I would recommend for someone looking for a decent FPS. They cover the gamut. CS:S is the classic that you can play for years to come with little worry that the player base will dwindle. Stalker is the engrossing single player that will absorb hours upon hours of your time exploring a semi open world. BC2 is the more modern shooter with good graphics and a currently popular online multi-player scene.

Hope that helps.

I played CS in the past, but am now going back to it. And of course, TF2, thanks for the suggestions!
