FS/FT Announcements / [H]ot Deals 2010

Try to beat this price for an outdoor antenna pre-amplifier: $13.54 shipped: http://cgi.ebay.com/VHF-UHF-Low-Noise-Pre-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ170468841354 <-- you're never going to get close to this price, the next lowest price would be around $30-$35 or so.

The specs on it are pretty good btw, especially the UHF specs, better than some of the more popular units on amazon, but obviously not the strongest either.

Edit: couldn't pass it up, picked one up for my future new OTA outdoor antenna replacement :)

Double Edit: Received it in 3 days, it came brand new in a plain but sealed retail box, all sorts of accessories were included.

did it do anything?

did it do anything?

Haven't purchased my new outdoor antenna yet, and i've already taken down my old antenna after it got knocked apart by a wind storm.

Trying to make sure i get the perfect antenna for my area because then i might be able to get two or three extra channels (as per www.TVfool.com)

But i've been reading up on it since and found out the brand Antennacraft makes high end products including their pre-amps, so i'm sure it'll work well after i install it.

Brand new Vox external hard drive enclosure, both USB + eSata for $14 shipped (!!) Buy two of them with combined shipping for just $22 shipped ($11 each !!)

Yes, it comes with an eSata cable (not always included with other enclosures in the past).

We all know eSata is pretty fast, but even this enclosure's USB implementation is pretty fast at 33MB/sec (that's ultra fast for USB).

Trust me on this one, whether you're buying one for $14 or two for $22, it's a mega hot deal for this type of product.

Edit: the first batch sold like hotcakes, so i posted his second batch. I wasn't kidding when i said this was a great deal :p

haha, didn't need it, but you bought two anyway :D

Those .50 cent to $1 bing cashbacks add up, get enough of those and you can apply them to some small future purchase and get a decent discount.

I remember people scoffing at $9-$10 bing cashback awards , heck i look at it as $10 off my next purchase, which i'll combine with bing cashback AGAIN for an even better discount, thank you very much!

4 pin molex power supply, used to power case fans externally and without having to use your PC powersupply, good for external cabinet cooling, or anything else that uses this type of power connector.

Only $3 shipped: http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-5V-AC-Adapter-Power-Supply-HDD-HARD-DISK-DRIVE-IDE-/260491050625

These go for a lot more elsewhere so rest assured it's a great deal.
wow that's a great deal. I think I paid $12 + ship for the adaptor that's powering the fans cooling my entertainment cabinet.

Dynex TV's are going for dirt cheap at BestBuy right now, and with 4 year service plans going for only $99 it makes it all the more enticing imho.

Even video snobs may find room for it as a secondary TV imho, especially with the cheap extended coverage.

Link + discussion: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1526535

Last i heard Dynex was using AUO VA panels, a supposedly good middle-of-the-road panel, but in this world of panel lotteries nothing is definite.

Potential future hot deal:

Insignia plasma TVs from Best Buy, for 2010 they are rebadged Samsung plasmas, which are great TV's, and come standard with a 2 year warranty and friendly service. They also have a 1366x768 resolution, not 1024x768.

Their 50" 720P plasmas would make for a great value when on sale, especially when combined with Bing cashback or a 10% Best Buy coupon. You can get a 10% Best Buy coupon by requesting the "mover's pack" at your local post office.

Keep an eye out for sales, then combine it with the 10% coupon from the mover's pack, or for online transactions you can use 5% Bing cashback and use the in-store pickup option to keep UPS from destroying your TV.

Link, but not on sale at the moment: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Insigni...00Hz+/+Plasma+HDTV/9745916.p?id=1218166152566

For more info, do a forum specific search using keyword "Insignia" in the AVS plasma subforum: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=167

What makes the Insignia 720P set more palatable is that they are not the traditional 1024x768 with rectangular pixels, it actually has a 1366x768 square pixel count which makes it more PC friendly, and from over 8ft away you'd supposedly never see the difference over 1080P anyway. Just for reference, the 2010 Panasonic C2 plasma has 1024x768 rectangular pixels, which is a step down from their 2009 base plasma model imho, then you have the the so-called black-level issue to consider.

Ugh, LG. Everything I ever bought by that brand failed completely, shortly after I got it. That's one brand I wouldn't keep in my house if it was given to me. Good luck with it.

Thank you

I'll take my chances with their plasmas since the parts are completely different and they rank right up there with Panasonic and Samsung plasmas with no major issues.

I realize it doesn't equal product longevity but the 50PK550 got such good image quality review(s), i just couldn't resist buying one :)

4 years of Mack warranty coverage should help out also.

I'm parting out one of my HTPCs so I thought I would post the parts here before posting in the FS/FT forum.

All prices include shipping within CONUS

M3N78-vm 8200 mATX mobo w/HDMI - $65
2 2x1gb (4B total) G.SKILL DDR2 800 F2-6400CL5D-2GBNQ - $80
Hauppauge HVR-1600 - $35 SOLD

I might add an AMD BE-2300 but I'm going to try it in my HP EX470 first.

Cheap Bias lighting strips. For those who don't know what this is, you would rig a bias light behind your TV to enhance your perception of contrast, it's a neat trick that works well "usually".

Get the "white" 6500K unit here:
- http://www.coolerguys.com/840556088707.html (needs a cheap 4 pin molex power supply)

- 4 Pin Molex powersupply ($10 + S/H): http://www.coolerguys.com/840556087885.html
- A less expensive 4 Pin molex power supply ($3): http://cgi.ebay.com/12V-5V-AC-Adapter-Power-Supply-HDD-HARD-DISK-DRIVE-IDE-/260491050625 <-- Great deal
- On/Off power switch: http://www.coolerguys.com/840556088707.html

Or check out remote controlled Bias lighting units here: http://www.barlighting.com/order.html

Oh yea, and one vote to have this thread re-stickied :)

bwa haha. maybe you're right.

Maybe it's time to start a non-specific thread

You wouldn't have to trouble him with the more trivial stuff, the htpc suforum moderator could do it ;)
That's what one would think, but 4 years later and no mod has done anything. Let's all send an alert for the 1st post of this thread and ask the moderator to retitle it "2010" and sticky it. I'm going to do that now.

Edit: I mod-alerted this thread, posted a message to PS-RagE, and sent him a PM. Hopefully one of these methods will work.
