Halo: Reach CO-OP doesn't work on new 4GB Xbox 360 slim

WUT THE FLUX.

Seriously, I just bought an xbox slim 4gig version just for this game and now I can't play campaign co-op?!?! This is the first I heard of this. Talk about serious rage happening right now. No not even rage, it's beyond rage..

i still don t know why MS offers an xbox without a HDD its so stupid.

Maybe I should refuse my package from UPS and have them refund me. I didn't buy a brand new xbox console to play half the game... ugh

i dont even...

it doesn't affect me, but i mean...would have it really killed microsoft to put 8gb of internal memory in there so all the game modes could be played? Would an extra 4gb of internal storage break the bank?

it just seems such a lack of foresight. all the bad press is going to continue. they knew this with ODST so i dont really buy the argument they didn't know ahead of time

and yet the game keeps pulling in perfect and near perfect reviews when one of the major selling points doesn't function for new slim arcade owners...

Probably won't function for me, either. I still have a HDD-less Core from 2006.

Well, a new hard drive's only (~insert difference of price between arcade and xGB model here).

And really, you've gotta be a bit of a moop to have a 360 with only 4GB of storage. (voice of the crowd)

..or maybe just some kids who finally scrambled some money together at the last minute to pick up a new 360 and take part in the best Halo. Shitty for them I guess, I'll bet they're angry.

What about having to pay Microsoft for online-multiplayer and not being able to use a stock 360 to play Halo: Reach CO-OP on their network? I mean, most people have a real 360 with a useful hard drive but there are plenty who don't.

Reach is worth the HDD upgrade, too. Heh heh.

Bad posturing, guaranteed sales?

Not the first game to do this, certainly the most high profile though.

gotta say i've had a 360 pro for a while and was commpletely unaware any games had this problem. most of my friends that bought 360s have arcades too, bleh...

I am really surprised more reviews do not mention this.

It only affects online co-op, from what I see. Local co-op doesn't seem affected. I'll have to test this out, tonight.

Adding extra storage through USB sticks etc. doesn’t seem to fix the problem

And to think I was tempted to get a slim and add a stick lying around. I guess I'll stick to my first gen refurb 360 till it dies out (a time bomb).

If yours dies, may you PM me? I have an early 2006 xenon that's still kicking :D Let's see who's dies first :p

It's lame, but if you really wanted to, I'm sure you could find someone on the forums here to sell you a 20gb for cheap. A buddy on another forum shipped me a 20gb for free, he just had it sitting in his closet for years anyway.

Oh yeah that won't work on a slim though will it :(.

X-box slim = Fail-Box

Xbox any model = Failbox

Seriously, that thing is a fucking joke. Actually, I priced out a build for a friend the other day, and for $450 I was able to fit in an AMD triple-core, an HD 5770, a Gigabyte 740 board, 2 GiB of RAM, a Corsair 650W PSU, and a case. The PC was cheaper over the course of 2 years (which is the time until new consoles are released) and the savings will be even bigger if he doesn't upgrade for 3 or 4 years.

You serious? The xbox is what 5 years old now? You are comparing a $450 pc now (you forgot windows also, 4gb would also be better to game on (debatable) driving the cost up) to a $200/$300 piece of hardware from 5 years ago. I think many people are going to disagree with you about the xbox, the only thing I play with my friends is my xbox, can't really put 4 people on the same pc.

They're still selling it today as their latest product, so yes, I am comparing PC hardware from today to a console that was designed 5 years ago.

Comparing the original Xbox to a 2006 system would be ridiculous, but IMO comparing a company's latest product with PC hardware is fine. Not to mention that even an 8800 from 2006 owns the Xbox GPU.

LOL the 8800 series came out a full year after the xbox.
The 8800 series, codenamed G80, was launched on November 8, 2006
The Xbox 360 was released on November 22, 2005
You're not very consistent, if your going to compare it to something, compare it to a $300 pc and see what you get. The 360 still sells for what it does now because it is good, it was a great deal for the time when it came out. Sure you can get a pc for better but there's alot you will miss on a pc that is on a console, such as multiple people on the same xbox. People don't buy an xbox solely because they like to dwell in their man cave by themselves. This is a pc vs 360 debate either, take the pc crap to the pc gaming forums.

Duh, I knew that, and it doesn't matter - Microsoft is still selling the Xbox 360 today (and they were in 2006) as their latest and greatest product.

$300 for the console (if you want one that can actually play the Halo co-op thing), $50 for this year of Live, $60 for next year of Live, $10 extra for new games (though this is starting to change; as of now, most titles are still coming out for $50).

....Uh....It's no different than games that were released that required a hard drive for use....which meant that Core system owners had to have bought one.

The 4GB console is meant to be the equivalent of a Core model - it's designed for folks who have no interest in massive amounts of storage, and are OK with being shut out of that kind of stuff. These folks are primarily off-line gamers who play the occasional Madden game with friends on the console, let their kids play their games, etc.

This has all been done before....

Duh, I knew that, and it doesn't matter

Then why bring it up? You are trying to compare something to something else that really doesn't line up.

$300 for the console (if you want one that can actually play the Halo co-op thing), $50 for this year of Live, $60 for next year of Live, $10 extra for new games (though this is starting to change; as of now, most titles are still coming out for $50).

You can get live for $30 on sale, right now it is on sale on xbox live itself for like $29.99. Like I said in my previous post this isn't a pc vs 360, take it somewhere else, your comparison will always fail because as I explained before there are things the 360 can do that the pc can't this isn't solely based on who delivers maximum image quality, they are both for games but in different respects, xbox is a little more social. If you want to debate cost the 360 will always play its games fine, pc you have to upgrade hardware or lower quality settings to play newer games. A pc from 2005 is going to play modern games like crap. 360 you can resell your games lowering the cost dramatically, most pc games are single use now.

You forgot the OS. About 200usd, unless if you want to use loopholes, less than legal means, or Linux.

But hey - you can use Linux, just download from your other PC (or buy a disc with it).
EDIT: if you are Zachstar... read the damn thread, lol.

OK, good. Over the course of two years, a PC is still cheaper for the average gamer. That means it takes 6 titles to break even instead of 4.

Things the 360 can do that my PC can't? Like what? Well, I guess - my PC can't play games at 30 Hz rendered at upscaled 720p. :(

A 5-year-old PC can still play the most recent games at 1280x720 at 30 Hz like the 360 (or 1024x600 at 60 Hz in the case of CoD4/MW2).

Anyways, I'm off to bed. If you could reason with Xbox gamers, there wouldn't be any Xbox gamers. I'll respond in the morning.

That's another issue entirely, actually. Since most people already have a relatively recent PC (C2D-ish), you could just as easily buy a GTX 460 or 5770 or similar-priced card and slap it in there.

If you're building totally from scratch, with no OS license (i.e. if you've been using Linux the whole time, or if you're using a less-than-legitimate Windows copy), then yes, the PC will cost a bit more. About $100 more, in fact: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754. Once again, over the typical lifetime of a console you're still saving money, and not to mention getting a much better experience (variety of control schemes, including keyboard and mouse, controllers, joysticks, flight yokes, and steering wheels) and a better multiplayer experience since all decent games have dedicated servers for multiplayer.

You just proved you can't read. I guess you missed the whole you can sell 360 games, that reduces the overall cost of ownership by a ton. Don't see that happening on the pc much with all the drm. I guess you also missed that I said twice you can play with multiple people on the same xbox which is a huge advantage over the pc. I have a pc that was bought in 2005 with x800xl it wont play many moden games because it lacks a ton of newer features like the revisions to direct x, some newer games wont even install on it. If you're going to post at least back it up with good arguments not with my $450 pc that lacks windows is better than your $300 xbox.

Says who? Where's your proof

Yeah because I love all the cheats and hackers on pc games. It is quite a bit harder to cheat on consoles considering your whole system gets banned if you do. I prefer the xbox live multiplayer over pc any day cheaters actually get banned.

Reselling old games. Something that has kindof died off on the PC due to DRM. Funny thing, how it works.

Keep guessing.

Yes, it can. However, for 300usd PC from 2005, hell-fucking-no. A PC from that era, at that price, would have trouble running windows 7 + office, much less a game (empirical experience, I tried to upgrade all of our Athlon 64 computers to win 7... horrid results ensued for me). Let's say you were an absolute idiot, and bought all 5 years of XBL at full price. Now you have recouped the cost of Microsoft Windows XP Pro, full version (rather dicsounted, too, irrc it was much more expensive for the full version).

Anyways, I'm off to bed. If you could reason with Xbox gamers, there wouldn't be any Xbox gamers. I'll respond in the morning.

Nah, I think you are the unreasonable one. We all know what a PC can do. You have completely missed the point of a console. Why the hell would I have a 300usd console back from 2005, while still having a 1000usd+ PC (i7 930 + 2 HD5870 should do the price trick :p)?

I can play games whenever I like on the xbox. Heck, upto 4 people (in some games - like... Halo :)) can play with, against, in teams, on xbl sharing the same account..... from a single console. Compare that to a PC setup which would require at least 4 adequate PC, and four seperate copies of the game.

Well i guess its going to cost a lot of people over £100 to play Halo Reach Online!!

Same as Halo 3. They never promised your penny pinching would be rewarded did they?

Horse. Beaten. Death.
