Bad Company 2

I scored most points with medic when i started, even with the starting gun once u get revive option and med pack u get crazy amount of points even if u dont kill much.

What's the best class for a noob to level up first?

Medic & Assault have goodie bags (you have to level the medic some for his, not sure on assault though) you can throw on the ground and get points for, people always need health and ammo, you can only have one down at a time and it has a timer on it. Keep them placed in high traffic areas where your team can make a lot of use of them. Engie is the most fun to level, he gets a bunch of toys, land mines hidden well are great.

Anyone playing with hbao turned on?

nope, but with your sig config I would be ;)

I've just gotten into BC2 and I'm loving it. However, I've noticed my computer stutters quite a bit while playing, typically when particle effects get intense or I'm fighting more than one enemy at close range. I've lo

This is the first game I've played that's completely taxing my Q6600 and 8800GT, 4GB RAM. Even after lowering my resolution to 1024x768 and putting it on low quality, I still stutter (although less frequently). Am I CPU bound or GPU bound? What kind of hardware do you need to play this game decently (min 30 fps all the time)? My native monitor resolution is 1600x1200, so I'd love to play at that with decent eye candy turned on.

I have the system in my sig. I upgraded just the 8800GT to a T285 and I got a huge increase in FPS. Upgrading your cpu will boost your minimum frame rates by quite a bit I've heard.

You are CPU bound and GPU bound, however I believe you are mostly GPU bound as I am running a Q6600 at stock 2.4 currently and get (off the top of my head) around 45-50 fps under hard game play and upwards oh high 70's when not too much is going on, using Fraps as my guide.

I play BC2 at 1920x1080@120hz with the following Advanced Settings: Everything on High except Effects Quality=Medium, AA= 4xMSAA, AF=4x, HBAO=off, Vsync=off.
I use to run 2x 8800GT cards in SLI when I first got the game and it felt a bit choppy and low frames, so I replaced them with a HD5850 and it seemed to help quite a bit. But now I feel I am CPU limited and will be doing an OC to the Q6600 soon to get some more FPS.

I am not sure how powerful of a card is required to get to playable frames with your resolutions, but I will tell you that your CPU is not holding you back.. yet. I would update your GPU first, or try an SLI setup, as you can see in my sig you and I both have Q6600 and 4gigs of ram, the only difference is our GPUs and mine system runs the game pretty smooth currently.

indelible5, does it play smoothly multiplayer for you? Single player runs fine, but multiplayer is where I start to chop. Just want to confirm.

Yes, I only play multiplayer. As long as the server is not lagging it runs good.. great will come with an overclock. The game loves quad cores, so be happy you have your Q6600. Are you running two monitors of different sizes at the same time? That might be hurting you also, Grab a newer GPU for your main monitor and try to use the 8800 for the aux monitor, or get one that will run both nice and not hurt you in game.

I notice that as I lower my settings that my ping decreases. Going from high to medium got me a decrease from 110 to 81. Interesting.

I was just checking my stats after a while and its quite interesting. I've been playing a little more and my skill level has shot up to 575 :) I often shoot helis down with tanks, rack up on points that way.

My attacker ratio is 12.13 (194 wins,16 losses)
Defender ratio is an abysmal 0.12 (18 wins, 153 losses)

I find defending very difficult, and my ratio shows lol.

I've been playing a lot of Atacama Desert conquest in the SOC 24/7 server. I think I'd be much better if I upgrade my 9800GT...gets really choppy during intense battles and I end up dying in intense firefights because of slide show framerates. Upgraded my [email protected] to a [email protected], got a nice little boost there.

I am running 2 monitors at the same time with different rez, but does that really make a difference? I would think Aero barely uses any resources at all considering it runs fine on integrated hardware from 2006.

Yup BC2 is the core-whore

To be honest that is above my head as I have not researched anything to do with multi-monitors in over seven+ years, you know how they fly by. I just threw it out there because back when I did run two monitors years ago I had to run the better one at the lessers max resolution and noticed an FPS drop in games I was playing at the time, probably CS 1.4 lol. And in my mind, more monitor useage = more gpu power needed, but I could be way off base on this. Hopefully someone else can chime in for you on that :)

What's the best class for a noob to level up first?

Medic > Engineer > Assault > Recon.

Medic is a points whore, and the LMG are very easy to kill with. Add in defibs, augmented med kits, faster heal kits and you can score heavily and rank up fast even as a noob.

Engineer's can rake in the points on maps such as Atacama and Arica. Try it with a tracer, CG or RPG, UMP / Scar L or AKS-74U with mag ammo. Plenty of repair points on offer too. All SMG's are very accurate and easy to use, firing from the hip on all is easy for beginners.

Assault is easy to master, try mag ammo AN-94 or M416. In fact all the Assault weapons are good. Plenty of points for ammo resupplies. Look out for players low on ammo. Drop boxes in choke points too.

Recon can be very productive. I normally go with a shotgun, with slugs and mag ammo. Coupling it with motion mine spots and mortar strikes. Shotguns can take some practice to get good so probably not the easiet class to play at first

Anyone having issues being chucked off servers?

Got booted with no explaination off two servers last night because I had some pretty cool killing streaks going.

It's starting to become regular that Admins get pissy. Absolutely no base-raping or anything. Really not fair, getting me very vexed and ruining my fun. Hell such kill streaks are rare and get the adreneline pumping, shame the black screen of boot kills it.

Played about 30 mins tonight. Had 2 CTD's within about 5 mins, yet still kept reopening the game afterwords. Thereafter I started noticing the rubberbanding, and started thinking my usual *why am I playing an FPS with such a shitty FPS-oriented engine, can't DICE code for shit, etc. etc*. Currently reinstalling COD4, and playing CS 1.6 in the meantime.

Im glad I dont have any of the rubberbanding issues many seem to have. I getoccasional lag, but thats server/player dependent

so who has 500 vehicle destroys? geez, it's gonna take forever!!!

Finally got it this morning. :)

It took 340 hours to get there!

Most of the destroys were with tracers and RPG or CG.

Man alive, the Distinguished Anti Vehicle Combat award should be worth 50,000 not 5,000!

I hit 500 vehicle destroys just yesterday. I worked on getting gold metals for all the items that can take down vehicles and that got me most of the way there.

Tank mines...god bless tank mines. Working on GS#6. I have found some really dirty places to put them lol. Whats even funnier is to put them somewhere you know that there will be people congregating like a choke point and toss a nade in there. Got a 6 kill that way a week or so back - fricken hillarious.

I'm going to try to turn off bloom and/or hbao to see if it helps framerates during intense situations. What does hbao do again ?

By the time someone unlocks the M416 they will no longer be a noob. It's the second to last Assault unlock, isn't it? The AN-94 takes a while to get, too.

Otherwise, great post.

Oh yeah good point, not to mention the UMP.

Out of all the first weapons the PKM is probably the best. It's not far off the M60 in terms of killing power

Been using the Engineer's 9A-91 recently - it has excellent stopping power but only 20 bullets. Makes it difficult to kill more than one person before reload. The next Engineer weapon the Scar L is a beauty, almost as good as the UMP. Stats says so too.

Notice how the majority of the bans are non-USA accounts? Interesting.

Yeah, mostly european which would explain why I have seen some dodgy stuff of late... I played with RT-Destroyer on my sqaud the other day, didn't realise he was hacking. I think I outscored him!

I wish lol, I got mine quite some time ago and I'm only at 155hrs. To be fair I spent a lot of time on Atacama CQ when I first started playing, and lately I've been LOVING the M136, it's amazing for taking down helicopters. Once you've fired a thousand or so rockets at helicopters flying, you really start to get the hang of it, and at this point as long as the heli isn't directly above me or something I've got better than a 50% chance of taking it down with any rocket(and that number is slowly improving ;) lol)

did I hear vehicles :D

Hackers are generally poor players relying on a crutch just to limp along. Awareness and thinking ahead usually wins the match. Along with being quick and accurate of course.

Thanks to those who helped recommend me a shotty build for recon centered around the 870. I LOVE using it. Nothing is better than taking out a sniper at range with it and then hearing them growl in vent about being out-sniped by a shotgun. e-boner.

God I love squad deathmatch.... such a nice mode. Anyone else like that mode?

I've honestly never played it.

I literally only play Rush because the attack/defend playstyle tends to force teamwork. I played a bit of Conquest and it felt like Modern Warfare where enemies come from anywhere and frustrated the hell out of me.

Once I got into Rush I never tried much else. I'll need to give it a shot.

I'm the same, Rush is all I want to play because cooperation is richly rewarded. I've played like 1 round of Squad Deathmatch and I didn't enjoy it, but maybe I was on a bogus server.

Congrats, that one does take a long time, believe it was the last award for me to receive out of all of them :(

On another note, I have all pins completed and all awards except the two that Dice never seems to fix.. the: get all weapon bronze stars ( have gold in almost every one, and 3 platinums [no one is not the cg :)] two are pistols) and : get all bronze stars ( have silver or better in all) The way I look at it Dice owes me and anyone else whom has accumulated those our 15000 points  that is a strong chunk, but from past BF game experiences I doubt they will get it fixed prior to the Vietnam expansion due in winter 2010. Moreover, once they release that we'll have no hope on a fix, and I'll probably be playing that and not care any longer.

Has anyone encountered the common issue surrounding onboard audio? My game constantly freezes my computer and requires a complete reboot. Sometimes it's after 30s and sometimes I can play for 10 minutes. I did some searching and it turns out that the problem is due to using onboard audio. I don't have a sound card. In order to fix this bug people have been disabling their onboard audio, but of course that means I have to play with no sound! Does anyone know another way to fix this beyond buying a sound card?

interesting, do you have a link that says it's caused by on-board audio? i get freezes sometimes after a few hours of play, but i've just assumed it's caused by my cpu OC. maybe i should throw my xfi back in?

on second thought, i'm almost positive the audio in BC2 is handled by the CPU. anyone have input on this?
