I bought a eVGA 9800GT from Fry's today for $80 - $40 MIR + tax = $47. It's sitting in its plastic wrap. Its sole purpose is Starcraft 2 med-high with the system in the sig. I keep seeing deals of better cards for $70-100 but I think the rest of the computer would bottleneck it. And it'd be more worthwhile to wait and spend more money when I upgrade everything at once in the future. Thoughts?

Also, my Xclio Goodpower 500W should be able to run this right? 24A req on the 12V and
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/829/xclio_goodpower_500_watt_psu_review/index2.html says it has a combined 12V 29A. (12V1+ 16A, 12V2+17A).

I'm a bit confused how they calculate the 29A.

Thanks.

Yeah no one has ever actually figure out how much amperage there was on the +12V rail.

Anyway, that PSU is five years old, uses an old CWT design, and uses the notorious Fuhjyyu caps. That's definitely signs that you should replace the PSU as soon as possible. That XClio may power that system but not for long.

I'm able to play SC2 at 1440x900 at high settings. Rig in sig. Very similar to your sig rig.

$47 is pretty cheap. Sell the 9600GSO and it isn't a terrible upgrade. I don't know how good the PSU is though.

The 9800GT is a pretty good card for that price. I agree with 450. Sell dat 9600 and go with the 9800. In a more powerful rig, the 9800GT will also make a better physx card, should you ever need such a setup.

Thanks guys. I'll keep it and I guess I'll buy a Corsair psu (or something of the sort) soon. Also, Danny Bui what program did you use to OC your chip? I'm a noob to OC'ing and would like to get some more life out of it once I upgrade the psu.

I just did it the old fashion way: via BIOs, not program. I did however, use this guide to help me OC:

Yup, considering the cpu you have, the gpu seems about right. It would bottleneck anything significantly more powerful.
