I keep scratching my head because I can't figure out why Microsoft wouldn't put a Blu-ray drive into the new slimmer 360... hopefully they will with their next console.

Plenty of them, as to many other companies. Blu-ray itself is owned / licensed by a consortium of 20 different companies though, and Sony wouldn't have any real say on who they could licence the format to (Microsoft actually holds a few of the patents on tech used in blu-ray players too). Sony actually "owned" more of DVD's IP than they do blu-ray... and besides, I don't think most people realise that Sony and MS cross licence tech / work together all over the place.Doesn't Sony own some kind of patent on the blu-ray tech?
yeah like MS is going to fragment their user base.........
How would that fragment anything? 360 games are DVD, HD-DVDs are on their external drive...All it would do is add more appeal to the 360. It would be stupid for Microsoft to not put it into their console eventually. Digital Distribution is okay for some things but not for all games. I still think disc media will be around for a while.

simple
you would have a group of people that had the feature and a group that did not. I mean all you have to do is look at Sony and how they fragmented their user base..lol
some systems with card readers
some with PS2 compatability
some without card readers
some with no PS2 compatability
word dog! I totally am missing out on my Card readers yo, killer feature that they stold from us.

to be fair, the xbox360 slim removed the stinking memory cards, too (in favor of more USB ports for USB flash drives, however).
erm
360 with wifi
360 without wifi
360 with hard drive
360 without hard drive
whats your point?
lets see here
First off MS never took away a feature (Ie you could still buy a hdd for your console or buy a console with a hdd for more $) from the 360. @$199 Arcade has everything except for hdd same cannot be said for the PS3 as NONE of them produced now have B/C with PS2 titles
At first MS had no console to compete with the Wii so they made the acrade that problem was solved
Second wifi is a feature added to later consoles (all currently produced 360s have it)
while MS took away the ability to use Memory cards they made up for it by giving the console 4GB internal storage (that's like having 8 512MB memory cards)
again you point is?
Man give me a fuckin' break you tried to take a stab at the PS3 for removing feature's and the 360 more or less does the exact same thing. Both consoles with the bare bones components are the cheapest, $199 360 or $299 for the PS3. Both of those options will give you the least accessories built in, whether it be HD size, wifi, or card readers, etc.....
The only difference is that all PS3's come with HD's and wifi. Your argument is that MS doesn't remove them, they just don't put them in the lower bundles, so they can charge outrageous prices for them later when you do need an HD or wifi.
And the arcade 360 unit still does not ship with wifi.
The PS3 has always had more features, just bringing up the whole BC removal shit shows how desperate you were to create some flames, but whatever, you should play the games and enjoy both systems like myself, because when you start bringing up the removal of the card readers man.....
it's just pathetic.

That was guaranteed from the second the OP posted. This thread is just turning into a which is better argument.

Going by NPD numbers, it's 12m vs 20m (PS3 vs 360).Anyone know the spread in the US? Regardless of numbers, it always feels like I have more friends playing the Xbox.
outselling the 360 worldwide by a couple mil is no feat, its still considered a complete failure from its initial expectations of continuing the dominance of the previous consoles.
bottom line is MS must be pretty satisfied with the progress they made with the 360, Sony obviously isnt

Sony may have lost more money on the PS3, but at least it won them the format war.
Whilst this is true, the amount of money they'll make over the entire life of blu-ray wont even come close to covering the money they lost in the gaming division.Sony may have lost more money on the PS3, but at least it won them the format war.
The 360 lost billions, is currently in second place, but looks like it will end up in third. I don't know how MS could be satisfied with that.

can you get a ps3 for $199?
can you get a ps3 with wireless N?
MS has not removed any features other than memory cards and as explained before they give you the same space as 8 of them on the replacement console.
at the PS3 entry pricepoint of 299, the 360 has more space and faster wireless vs blu-ray and user replacable hdd for the PS3....so it's a fairly even match
at MS entry point of $199, you get a 360 with no hdd but you get 4GB storage and wireless n.....where is sony's console? Oh, that's right there isn't one.
As stated earlier, at $199 the Wii is the only competitor and while the 360 is the clear hardware winner, it still cannot really compete with the overall family oriented factor of the wii nor can it compete with it's unique game play.... (lol before you say Kinect, that requires a $299 bundle (arcade), $399 bundle (s console) or an extra $150 (for current console owners))*
So at least if you are going to try and make someone look stupid, get your facts straight.
Btw, one thing that I like about my Wii and my 360 is that I can play ALL of my NGC games on my Wii and a fair amount of original xbox games my 360..
With my PS3 I cannot play ps2 games but I can play ps1 games lol wtf is up with that lol....

someone already pointed this out in previous threads but MS has been making a profit ont he 360 for some time now and have actually overcome their investment.
No disc based game will install on 4gb of HD space, and 360 drives are extremely loud, so if I can't install, it's a no go. I mean what are you going to put on 4gb? After game saves what it good for 2 demo's and no downloadable content? The 4gb's are worthless to someone who has LIVE.
That is an invailid argument. The newer 360's disc drives are very tolerable... Also, after the 4gb fills up you can just go buy an 8gb flash drive for real cheap, heck 16gb are even pretty cheap now a days.
