co-op with friends is a ton of fun! probably not very much fun by yourself but if you have some friends get them to play it, considering its free. How much money do you guys want to bet there will be DLC for this free game haha :p

Played with 2 other friends and really enjoyed it, especially for a free game. I really hope they add more to the campaign. We beat it in about an hour on a mixture of medium and hard.

It's probably a way to get more people installing Steam with the hopes more people will buy more games from it.

Played last night with a friend of mine. I would have gladly paid for this game.

I played about 3 seconds of it while at work. It seems like a not shitty version of Space Siege.

Yep. Freaking genius. Who can resist Steam weekend deals?

The game is a lot of fun, and pretty hard with only two people! I do wish they add 360 controller support in the near future, this game would be a perfect dual joystick shooter. Hell if they released this on PSN or XBLA they would make a killing.

QFT. I played with a friend last night and with just the two of us it was a bit tough. Super fun though :D I could definitely see playing from the couch.

I could have sworn that a friend and I played something almost identical to this on the 360.

Not when they are releasing the full source code and mod tools so that users can generate their own levels and content.

I think the whole point of releasing this game as free was to sell a ton of quality dlc that people would actually want and not crappy $15 skins and map packs.

Apparantly very fun, have a friend play it all yesterday and he highly recommends, will try tonight if i have time.

Tried this game out with one buddy last night for about 25 mins before bed.

SUPER fun. you really need 4 people to make it work right. Really different style of game. Going to playing nothing but it when I get home from work.

I dont have computer gaming friends so I played with pubbies, everyone was VERY cooperative and alot of them using mics. I had a lot of fun, I hope there will be some method of distributing new maps rather than having them spread across the internet. As with L4D2 theres a couple of custom maps but there are different versions of it, and unless you have friends to play with, finding a pub that has that exact same map can be difficult. If there were a centeralized database for maps/mods that kept the latest version that would be ideal.

Is it possible to choose a class and jump in a game while in progress or do you have to wait for the next round?

Next round.

This is basically a clone of the mod from UT2k4. I wonder if Valve bought the licensing rights since some of the names and items are exactly the same....

Edit, it is. SweetQ!

played a proper 4 player co-op last night with each of us as a different class (I was the medic) and it was pretty badass, we all really enjoyed it. I'm really interested to see what types of maps people come out with.

I had low expectations with it being free and all, but in the end them making it free is a great word of mouth tool for steam and for possible future DLC's & map packs. What a great opportunity the UT2k4 mod guys got, hired by steam to re-create it in the source engine.

Brilliant!

if you are not playing user made content for games you are missing out. Plus you have surely played a custom map before in games that is on par with official content. Finally, paying for skins at all is dumb.

EDIT: YOU DIDNT EVEN FIX IT RIGHT. What you "fixed" doesnt even make sense.

and not crappy $15 skins and map packs?

played last night with a few friends - sweet game. i think the fact that valve decided to put this game out for free really makes me appreciate them that much more. they release a quality product 99% of the time and rarely disappoint.

Holy shit the difficulty jumps up after hard. Has anyone finished a level on Insane?

breezed through normal in 45 minutes last night, then did the first half on hard after attempting insane (which was, insanely hard). super fun game.

I don't think valve is going to be releasing paid content for this thing, I think they are going to rely on the community to make everything. They have yet to charge for updates and new maps (tf2!), and I don't see them starting. They have, on the other hand, let the community create new content and then released it themselves as updates. This is what I hope they do with Alien Swarm. New updates every month of so with a couple of new, community created, maps and items.

The only thing I wish this game had was a way to resurrect people. A one time use item that took up your shield/mines/welding spot would be nice. At the higher levels you are screwed if one person dies, and it would be nice to be able to bring them back.

just played this at lunchwith my coworkers

pretty awesome, its fun screaming across the office "NO DON'T KILL ME!!"
and

"HEAL!!"

Game is awesome! Played all night last night. I always scream GET IN SO I CAN WELD THE FUCKING DOOR!

Played last night, and it's super fun. You really do need 3 other people. All the screaming and shouting is too good.

I didnt really like it. it was ok but got boring pretty fast. Graphics are pretty weak also.

It was a play to increase Steam development and hopefully sell more copies of the Source Engine. This is why the have been porting the engine over to PS3.

Had LOTS of fun with since it came out, hard to believe it doesn't have a price tag with the quality you're getting.

The only issue I had was the fairly crappy matchmaking system...takes me around 10 attempts before I can actually get into a game. Once I do get into a game though, my frustrations quickly dissipate.

I played a little of this during lunch. Not bad, but I only got to play three short rounds in which everyone else got themselves killed.

Well if you read the news you'd see that its because Valve hired up the original dev team 2 years ago.

i made a group for those of you here who are interested in picking up new friends in this game, i tried checking the regular [H] group but there were too many people and it wasn't really particular to Alien Swarm, the url is

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/hardswarm/

hopefully we can get some serious games going, i just completed it on hard, gonna go for insane shortly.

I've been hoarding Valve achievements recently, this only adds to my insanity!

More and longer campaigns, and slower level progression, and this game would be feasible for a pricetag :) Cant wait for people to start making custom content

Sigh I suspect all my friends are trying to act out the plot from aliens. Oh well we got through a few levels..after 5700 tries. Yep.Medic. Always medic....

Yeah, good teamwork is an absolute must, here. Mine got reduced to myself and some other guy for the 'finale' waiting for the elevator in that level where you have to incinerate a bunch of stuff. We exchanged a couple of guns, fitting to our class, and managed to squeak out. Maybe the sentry was the key.

Actually an interesting thing about steam which probably would not effect anyone here, but you cannot apparently add friends unless you have a paid for steam game. I ran into this problem when trying to get some casual gamers to try this out. Since they own no steam games or have ever used steam before, we couldn't directly play with each other.

oh well thats lame...

I wonder if gifting them a game would count (like how I have a bunch of copies of HL2 I'm pretty sure)
