Refurb Kindle $110

Damn that's a nice price...... Now the question is 4GB DDR3 or a kindle?
 
This is a US only version (compared to the Global Wireless version) and gets worse battery life. Non-issue if you don't need the additional battery life and you don't need 3G outside the US.
 
Kindles are not great for browsing the web and stuff. So before threadcrappers state the obvious... it's a device for reading books.

That said, E-Ink is awesome. You can literally go WEEKS without a charge since the only time it uses juice is when it changes to the next page... I'd take it on a trip without hesitation, and leave the charger at home.

Built-in cellular cards mean you never even have to sync with a computer if you don't want to... buy it all wireless.

Advantage is most of the time the Kindle books are $10 or so, paperbacks usually $15. So over time you save money but only if you read alot.

Again, on 3G... Just downloading books, really NBD... This is not a replacement for a laptop or anything.

But the battery life is definitely one to consider. The newer model (which you'll spend almost double on... $190) gets about double.
But the battery life on the Kindle is still rated in days and weeks, not hours... No matter what model you get.

Sorry I wasn't trying to threadcrap. It's a good deal I just wanted to make sure people knew that this one and the current model have some differences.
 
bought one, hopefully the 3G works in Mexico (giving to my fiance for her girls vacation).
 
Oh well maybe she'll just load up on books at the airport then. or does this thing have wifi? (never bothered checking kindle always looked at others, sony/nook but this one for 110 was too good to pass up, just bought w/o researching)
 
This is an incredible deal. I'd buy two right now had I not bought an iPad a month ago!
 
I think this is good if you like reading a lot of typical novels / purchasing new books whenever you want to.

If you already have a collection of PDF's or technical manuals and other things... there might be better options. I bought a Nook just because of the way Amazon locks down books on the Kindle and you can really only put PDF's and Kindle format (whatever that is)...

But not a bad deal either way, I paid $150 + tax for the Nook but I still love it...
 
from everywhere on the web, if you really want to enjoy technical pdf's then the only option is the kindle DX, is what everyone says, even the sony prs 900 which is 7in cannot do technical pdf's well.

amazon does have the dx refurb for 250 also i think.

the difference between this amazon2 refurb and the 150 nook is that the kindle2 has 3g, where you have to pay almost double (200) for a nook 3g.

this might not matter to some and it almost doesn't, but if you know your gonna be traveling and the type to be bored at the airport and want a book to read, then 3g is useful(which is how my fiance buys books, when she's bored at the airport cuz of company travel). And yes we can say, go tether/share connection w/ android/BB while there or find free wireless... but if you know your the type not to do that (like my fiance) then just having a device w/ 3g like that is worth it.
 
I agree, they're for two different purposes. I see no need for 3G but others do... and I tried my PDF's on a friend's DX and they were no better than on the Nook. I might have to end up converting them to ePUB and hopefully being able to edit them to work better.
 
I think it uses all the same technology.. I know the nook used android.

Of an owner of a Nook there's a few differences... The two things that convinced me to get the Nook over the KINDLE and SONY E-Reader was that the end user can change the battery in the Nook. The others you had to send it in to get replaced. Also (at the time) the Nook had 3G/Wi-Fi while the rest didn't. It uses ATT 3G and now ATT HotSpots with the latest firmware at no additional cost. The other factor was that the Nook also has a Memory Slot for microSD.

Nothing like purchasing a book @ 32K (in flight internet) above the ground. . and have it downloaded within a few minutes.

Although it may not work there, there are CDMA networks in Mexico, south/central america and China. I don't know what other countries use CDMA.
 
I'm wondering if they work on Verizon's network. I know they use Sprint,but they have no coverage at all where I live.

I think these still have wifi, so worst case scenario is that you'll have to stop at a mcdonalds or starbucks while on the road.

nope, no wifi on the kindle... wifi on the nook...

you can still preload books via USB on a computer.... it has 1.5GB usable memory, enough to store enough (older) books for some time
