Check out this new video, you must. Released a new gameplay video, Bioware has; hmmmmmm.

Imperial troopers and breach droids abound, so we implore you to have plenty of midi-chlorians at the ready before venturing into the clip we've dropped after the break. Oh, also, it looks totally boss.

It's about as bad as I figured it would be, so I'm really not disappointed at all. Still not getting it though.

Waiting on GW2.

There is a generally feeling of publishers "dumbing" down game-play mechanics for MMO's.

If you've played World of Warcraft from the start like many of us have, they keep removing bits and pieces to stream-line the learning curve.

The easier the task the wider the audience, the more money a publisher will make.

I have no doubt Blizzards next MMO will on the consoles but have micro transactions.

This Star Wars video represents their design feature set. Meaning, while the decor and graphics will likely improve, the general game-play will not change by much. What you see is what you get basically. And of course, they could add in different abilities to the characters, so on and so forth.

Honestly, the game-play I just watched was very un-inspiring. I think this game will do very well with kids, younger people and new to mmo players. But then again, that is their target audience.

I really think the day of all you can eat hardcore content for hardcore players is going to go away. Yes, you can look forward to episodic content, micro transactions and easier game-play.

I really hope I am wrong though.

Not really sure what other MMO has this type of combat at level 8. This feels more like a high level WoW instance.

Actually, there's low level dungeons in wow, and they look pretty much like this too. However, you're correct that high level instances look like this too because they all look the same.

Tank, off tank, dps, and a healer or two. It's the same gameplay, but with different unit textures.

I'm still Hyped about the game. Remember folks this ain't even Alpha yet. If it's typical Bioware focus on quality it should fucking rock ! nuf said. Naysayers play something else ...... lol

Oh, and I thought I would comment on what Maximuss said.

You are absolutely right. One of the biggest factors in Blizzard doing so well with World of Warcraft, that, in addition to their easy to understand quest mechanics, their low hardware requirement allowed for them to appeal to a much larger audience.

The same logic and reason behind Star Wars appearing not all that demanding hardware wise. This remains true for World of Warcraft today. We do get new water in the next WoW expansion. Laugh.

Will this new Star Wars tax your high-end PC? No. Will the learning curve challenge you? Again, no. I really don't see this game appealing to those of us that want a hard / rewarding challenge. However, fan-boys will no doubt get their fix.

Besides the character interaction during the speech moments - This game looks like generic WoW clone #~. Not impressed one bit. I was decently excited about this game as I thought we'd have a pre-NGE SWG sandbox style game done right. Unfortunatly, it's obviously a WoW clone marketed towards the general dullard market.

pitty, i have seen some of the clips and they look good.. again allways video clips will look better.. it should be tough and changing and morphing as to waht you decide..

sigh

scratch game off the list

It's funny how much of this negativity and bile reminds me of the same stuff I heard when WoW was a year out from release. "Waah waah, except the questing, its just like EverQuest except for morons!" If that's any indication, I think BioWare has a hit on their hands.

I complained about WoW at release, and still to this day. It's also a dumbed down experiance marketed towards dullards. Yes, it's exactly like everquest was but with more of a care bear experiance. Almost every MMO that has come out is EQ/WoW style gameplay and it pisses me off to no end. I want something new. Not rehashed bullcrap in a different setting. This is why I loved pre-CU SWG so much, Anarchy Online, or any number of MMO's which have at leasted attempted to break the mold. I'm tired of the same crap, and I want a sandbox. Unfortunatly, the average Joe doesn't like thinking for themselves, and they don't like a sandbox experiance.

and it still is...

you're getting confused by commercial success. The Pet Rock made millions too...

as it stands, unimpressive. seeing as how it is a bioware title and we are still a long way from release, i think there is some potential

I don't really think that's a fair assessment. Someones intelligence has nothing to do with their preference in gaming. In fact, someone who is a lot smarter than you and makes a lot more money than you is probably going to be more attracted to a more casual gameplay experience because they simply don't have the time or inclination to waste 80 hours a week playing a grindy MMO.

Are they a "dullard" even though they are far more intelligent than you or me and just have different tastes in gaming? Not everyone plays games as their sole purpose in life bro. Some people just want to have fun with their friends, and it has nothing to do with being stupid.

That's the reality of development. You can't design something of epic scope and put 200 million dollars into it and then tailor it for a niche market. MMORPGs thrive on large communities, and without them they cannot survive. The bummer of it all is that sandbox style games are even more community-dependent, yet attract a much smaller community.

I am eagerly anticipating this game. I will be pre-ordering once the collector's edition comes available.

and it still is...

you're getting confused by commercial success. The Pet Rock made millions too...

If an MMORPG has 5 million subscribers it's a fair bet that on average, people find it more enjoyable than the one that has 50,000 subscribers. You can spin it however you'd like, and try and portray these failed MMOs as being just too good for their own good, but the fact is they failed to attract and keep subscribers.

I still like city of heroes - fast pvp and you can pvp as early 20 - fully customizable and still pretty decent 5 years later.

Pretty lame... A trooper standing there being shot by hundreds of lasers with some jedi chick healing him just seems really freaken ridiculous. bring back x-wing vs tie fighter damnit! not wow in space!

This doesn't look like it played anything like WoW...

Regardless it was a lame video of the gameplay and horrible explanation at that. I think they are working on too many animation bugs from the looks of it. Same thing happened to AO and AO ended up being really buggy everywhere else and they STILL couldn't fix the lag bugs. I can see that happening here.

I take it this game is heavily instanced? I do not like instanced/mission based MMOG's and will be avoiding this product.

I'm by no means the most intelligent person in the world. However, I know i'm intelligent enough to be a qualified ATC along with holding my HALO and combat diver qual. I don't play games much anymore. I do enjoy casual games. Plants Vs. Zombies, and Luxor are now some of my favorite games. That said, I hate WoW and it's never ending number of clones. It's not a stimulating experiance. What I see from this game is the same crap. The same crap that has been designed in a way to make nothing but money off the masses who generally don't know good from bad because they saw a commercial with Mr. T promoting the game.

New FPS's come out all the time and generally, they at least introduce something new. Be it amazing graphics, new gameplay changes, or just generally having a cool plot. The problem with the WoW clones is that they change absolutely nothing besides the setting. What I witnessed in that video is the same crap I did over a decade ago in EQ (And for that matter Anarchy Online). At least playing a new FPS like Metro 2033 made me excited due to how awesome the game looked.

I guess I just don't understand it. Of course, the fact that I rarely have time for games anymore anyways may be part of the problem.

I think I will be :)

either I'm getting too old for this shit...or that looked pretty awful.

Did I just watch World of Starwars?

Now I remember why I don't play MMO's. For a while I was tempted to consider subscribing to this.

Pretty lame... A trooper standing there being shot by hundreds of lasers with some jedi chick healing him just seems really freaken ridiculous.

Yeah.... The combat mechanics have to be MMO style... where it takes millions of hits to take out someone. Enemies need to die in seconds (not minutes) and players need to die in seconds too .... but that wouldn't sell in an MMO.

I wanted KOTOR 3, not WoW in space...

:( :( :( :( :( I wish so too

I didn't pay attention to the graphics or what the helpful npc's were doing. I also ignored the spells that were being cast as obviously this isn't the finished product.

What I paid attention to what each person's job actually entailed. From a gameplay perspective, I thought the Jedi had the most fun (played as a Jedi in any SW movie), the tanking job was too basic, and the Smuggler was having to offheal too much. I thought it was nice that the Counselor could dps and interrupt the droids during the battle. No more bored healers!

Since I've been playing MUDS since 1991, everything is a clone of something else. So at some point unless something drastic happens, you have to accept that everything will rehash the winning subscriber formula to sell more product. It basically comes down to execution and gameplay. And I think this title has some nice ideas, and tons of story to toss at me over future patches and expansions. Since it's Bioware, the gameplay will be spot on. ;)

Can't wait!

Hopefully Graphics will improve tremendously before launch. Game play looked kind of bleh to me. I think Hellgate London looked better and flowed smoother although they never did get multiplayer working decently there.

I take it this game is heavily instanced? I do not like instanced/mission based MMOG's and will be avoiding this product.

According to Bioware, no, it is not heavily instanced. There are dungeons and special instances for some quests. The majority of the worlds are open, like in WoW, but much, much larger.

I just hope they add a lot of depth with a real sense of humor.

also, I thin hair styles, clothing ... pets, mounts along with rare fun things add a ton of fun.

When I say depth, I'm talking about, using Rogues in World of Warcraft as an example, where, before it was removed, you had to get blindweed to make your powder in order to vanish as well as making your own poisons.

It's the numerous small details like that .. that add an incredible amount of soul to the game.
