For whatever reason when I open up the Task Manager on my Gateway laptop it shows a huge list of processes. I'm familiar with the option to check "Show processes from all users" and it appears that it's only showing this option even though it's not checked. Doesn't matter if it's checked or not I get a list of 58 processes. This started not long ago and was never the case in the past.

Any ideas?

what all accounts are listed in the "User Name" column?
If you only see your user account, SYSTEM, NETWORK SERVICE, and LOCAL SERVICE, then you just have quite a few services running and nothing is abnormal.

Thought so. But it didn't seem that long ago that the list was much shorter. Thanks for the feedback. At this point I'll look into several of the processes that don't look familiar and find out what the are.

if you have Adobe Reader, it likes to create 2 or 3 processes that start at bootup.
there's Adobe quicklaunch, and I believe Adobe Updater at least. Maybe one other.

Java also likes to do the same thing. Java updater and Java Quick Start (Quick Start is actually a service, and would need to be disabled via services.msc).

I'm sure there are other applications that do similar; can't think of any off the top of my head though.

Looking at my list, it looks like there's a FlashUtil10h_ActiveX.exe which appears to be part of the Flash installer/uninstaller (not a damn clue why Adobe thought it needs to run all the time).
