According to this post on Google’s official blog, a U.S. District Judge has granted Google’s motion for summary judgment in Viacom’s lawsuit against YouTube.

This is an important victory not just for us, but also for the billions of people around the world who use the web to communicate and share experiences with each other. We’re excited about this decision and look forward to renewing our focus on supporting the incredible variety of ideas and expression that billions of people post and watch on YouTube every day around the world.

Hooray for the DMCA! Wha...? Well, I'm sure it will be changing soon enough to get rid of that pesky "safe harbour."

Now if only the same would be done in the MafRIAA and MPAA cases.

this case proves that the views in the judicial system are changing with copyright laws.. i think they are starting to see the holes in the system that these companies like viacom and the mpaa/riaa are taking advantage of.. if im not mistaken there was also another case where the supreme court basically bitch slapped the mpaa not to long ago.. and another before that when the courts got sick of dealing with the mpaa's cases being filed then dropped because they didnt have enough evidence on the person.. right now the RIAA's got 1 case thats stuck so far and they are trying to feed off the publicity as much as they can even though they already lost the backing of most of the musicians..

You know this is only Round 1. Round 2 will probably be Viacom suing to get access to user information...typical bullshit, of course. In that honor, Google should rename YouTube to GoFuckYourselfViacom for a day :D

The judicial system still works? Holy shitballs!!!

This will have to go through the court of appeals before anyone can be sure. Just as Obama lost on the oil wells, it will be re-tried. In fact, probably several times.

If they did that, I would lose my shit. That'd be hilarious.

Due to the wifi/Google maps thingy Google will probably be shut down by greedy governments, states soon(ish).

So um, enjoy it while we can :/

To be honest in my opinion is more of a case of who's the best prospect to continue to do business with. Google -> Internet. Viacom-> An Old and Boring Media Company who is sub seeded to the Internet.

But then how will we search for the naked womens!? Bing!?! it makes bad decisions.

I think you have too much faith in our legal system.

Now if they could just get BMG to stop muting all the Youtubez.

Them and WMG. I don't know how many vids I've come across that have later either been audio muted or audioswapped that didn't even contain their garbage...
