BFG Tech Announces Exit From Graphics Card Category, Continues On With Power Supplies And Laptops/PCs


Libertyville, IL – May 17, 2010 – BFG Technologies today announced their exit from the graphics card category. The company will continue to sell their line of BFG Tech power supplies as well as their Deimos gaming notebooks and Phobos gaming systems.

“After eight years of providing innovative, high-quality graphics cards to the market, we regret to say that this category is no longer profitable for us, although we will continue to evaluate it going forward”, said John Slevin, chairman of BFG Technologies. “We will continue to provide our award-winning power supplies and gaming systems, and are working on a few new products as well. I’d like to stress that we will continue to provide RMA support for our current graphics card warranty holders, as well as for all of our other products such as power supplies, PCs and notebooks.”

BFG will continue to offer RMA, telephone and email support for qualified BFG Tech graphics card warranty holders, but will no longer be bringing new graphics card products to market.

First and foremost, I have to say that HardOCP is sad to see BFGTech go. It was a company that opened up new ways of doing business with customers in the graphics card arena. The solid warranties and support you all enjoy now with high-end graphics cards companies can be traced back to BFGTech and its three founders, Scott Herkelman, Ric Lewis, and Shane Vance.

Of course our biggest concern is that our readers that have purchased BFG video cards are taken care of. Speaking this morning with then BFGTech CEO, Scott Herkelman, he assured me that BFG has taken measures to make sure full RMA and support will continue. Eight full time employees and the full group of tech support will remain in place as well as warehouse labor. That means continued 24/7 phone, email, and full RMA support for registered cards. As of today, BFG has a full reserve of cards and monies set aside to sure proper support occurs.

I wouldn't expect anything less from BFG, they've really proven how dedicated they are to good service.

I'm very sad to see them go. They certainly left the video card market better off than they found it.
 
Wow that sucks. I wonder what the underlying reason for graphics being unprofitable was?
 
wait, so Shane Vance of Galaxy is one of the 3 founders of BFG?

I'll at least look forward to checking out some of their other stuff. They're well cemented in my list of vendors I like to buy from.

this truly sucks. i've been using BFG cards in my gaming PC for years, and today is truly a sad day...
 
Wow, I had a BFG GTX 260, the first one I had problems and got good tech support from BFG with my second card. Sad to see them go.
 
Bfg set the trend for 24/7 support with a lifetime warrenty. Also they really were the first to release enthusiast editions of their cards whether overclocked or watercooled. End of an era
 
Its funny somebody was asking what the support level was for different manufactures the other day. When I was making the list I put BFG in as an Afterthought. I honestly haven't heard anything from them graphics wise in years. Decent enough support. I never had to RMA anything through them though Ive owned a few BFG cards.

seems like they sold a crapload of 8800GT's and then disappeared from the shelves.
 
Its sad to see them exit the graphics card market. I've owned MANY BFG Technologies cards over the years and most likely would have continued to purchase them in the future had this not happened. :(
 
Sad to see the graphics card marketplace is no longer profitable for BFG. Of course, one has to take into consideration they were a one brand graphics card show with a few custom features added-in on some models. Had they also carried ATI based cards maybe things would be different.

Anyways, good luck to BFG. :)
 
This does suck. BFG was always a solid vendor for cards, and their service was great. I really wondered why I wasn't seeing much new from them in graphics cards. :(

BFG Tech was known as having the best nvidia based cards in the market. Best warranty and customer service and stable OC-ed cards. They had the best nvidia cards. This is sad news for PC gamers. :(

They were known for their lifetime warranty. Perhaps nVidia wanted too much for their GPU compared to where they have MSRP for the final card set. Maybe BFG did a cost analysis and estimated that after warranty costs the margin just wasn't there to make it worth selling the card in the first place. They have no ATI videocards, so if they can't make a profit with Fermi then they can't really continue to do videocards.
 
thats what signing your life over to Nvidia will do for you


companies are silly to sell only one brand....cough evga...fermi delays and faults are going to bury all but the big guys, no wonder some brands dont even carry them.
 
This is a sad day for PC gamers. I had planned on buying BFG for life, they make wonderful products and have the best support I've ever seen. Hopefully, they do well in the rest of the market and perhaps sometime down the road graphics will be profitable again. I wish them the best in all other categories they pursue.

I kinda saw this coming with the 400 series launch (hence my EVGA card), but am still shocked. I had hoped they would go red and green but out all together? This makes Chromatik sad :(
 
Holy shit what a shock ...

I'm sad to see them go , they have some the best support I've ever heard of , hell you could call them on Christmas day and someone would be there. I remember when they released there first cards (atleast first time I saw them) Ti 4600 ..

Geez here I'm thinking "they will probably jump to ATI since they are doing so well now" not completely leave the video card market. Its a sad day for consumers , losing such a great provider.

If it hasn't been profitable for them I wonder who else is considering leaving the video card market..

Ok I think I just dropped a few tears on this one... BFG was one of the few name brands I would suggest to anyone. My old PC is still cranking out the graphics on a BFG 6800 GT card.

With luck they'll be back before long.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the founding 3 originally come from Visiontek when they restructured and went from Nvidia based graphics to ATI?
 
I too saw this coming when they announced that no gf400 series coming at launch. It sure is sad to see them go. I've had good experience with their products. Seeing how the dropped their mobos and now video cards I hope they don't go under.
 
And now AMD comes in with a program to help companies like BFG and now BFG will come out surprising everyone with a BLACK TRIPLE XXX XXX XXX ULTRA EXTREME PLATINUM 6990 6GB EXTREME OC in 3...2..1...

Wow, this news came of literally nowhere! Did anyone around here even know about this at all?
 
While I never owned a BFG brand card, i always saw them in a positive light and never heard any horror support stories. They had a good rep.

Its always sad to see a company like this go, but i think that the market is over-saturated so things like this are inevitable.

Frankly the reason I never bought a BFG card was because I always saw them as being a bit overpriced with their OC variants. Even their basic card was a few bucks over the competition. This of course coupled with the great warranty and excellent support should be seen as win/win, but I was counting pennies at that time. I do have to give them props for having multiple OC models and some liquid cooling non-reference models.

That's horrible... :(

I've owned nothing but BFG cards for the past several computers I've built. Any ideas on who to go with now instead that offers comparable reliablility and support?
 
Jeff, any news on what else you guys are working on? I would love to see a nice line of BFG performance products.
