Sapphire 5870 @ newegg $389.99 shipped

tax kills it for anyone who gets taxed by Newegg. XFX HD5870 with lifetime warranty at TigerDirect for $410 shipped, minus $50 bing cashback, for a total of $360 shipped. CA residents by contrast would be spending $426 total for the newegg HD5870. Not a good deal.

Decent deal for outside of CA. The bad thing about Tigerdirect compared to the egg, is it takes like 3-4 days for your order to get to CA. But the bing cb, no tax, free shipping can't be beat, if you don't mind waiting days for your gear to arrive.

And for us in IL, tax kills the Tiger Direct deal with another $40 tacked on.

Aren't these cards suppose to retail for $379.99?

I'm still holding off. I have a few games I want to play, but I'll wait until these prices come down on this old hardware.

'Guys I don't want to pay taxes hurr blame Obama. Oh wait hey my computer went out because there's no power to my house, I can't play games because I'm busy taking care of the kids since school is shut down, hell I can't even take a shit because the sewage system is on the fritz.'

Taxes are the price you pay for having a civilization.

Plus US taxes are actually relatively low compared to other industrialized nations. Compared to Germany, Italy, UK, Australia. etc. we should not be complaining other than how our taxes are spent by the government, which has typically been poorly distributed and allocated since before I was born and has nothing to do with just the current president.

Back to the actual subject. This is a decent price, what it should be everyday; however demand for the 5800 series being what it is, this price is certainly not bad.

At the rate that prices are sliding (or not sliding for the 5 series) I think I'll just wait until the Northern Islands cause I just can't justify spending 300+ for these cards so far out from their release. Just out of principle and not because they aren't worth it.

HEY, no worry, Obama will take care of all of us!

HEY, no worry, let's just keep stupid political crap out of this.

Last I noticed, my desktop was registered as independent.

Frankly, TigerDirect is cheaper, so I might have to go with them. Then again, I have yet to ever use BingCB and now sure if I want the hassle of starting.

There is no hassle, other than sometimes having to wait 60 days to get the money and deciding what to do with it... ;) I've been getting instant cashback more often lately, though. Is making a cashback account really too much of a hassle to save a nice chunk of change? I've saved several hundred bucks by using LiveCB/BingCB and I know several people have saved thousands. Heck, you're looking at a nice ~$50 savings on a 5870 even if you use it just once.

You kidding? US taxes the crap out of its citizens (both at home and abroad). US income taxes are certainly no lower than most other nations, however, the kicker (which you hit on) is that you get next to nothing for your $$ here in the US. Other nations with lower income tax rates provide little things like free health care, free dental, govt subsidies on prescriptions, unemployment benefits that don't expire (i.e. next to no homeless people), government superannuation, affordable college tuition, more affordable property ownership (i.e. lower housing taxes) etc.

I have lived and worked in quite a few countries and all I can say is that US taxes, on the whole, are certainly excessive for what you get.

Off topic...i know.

You do know that the US is among the LOWEST personal tax rates of ANY developed country in the world right?

On topic: I have heard bad things about the non-reference designs. If this is one of them, will it work less well than with a reference card than if you had 2 reference cards?

Not to derail the thread but none of those services are paid for by the federal government.

Your graph is 5 years out of date (i.e. several of the countries listed have had tax overhauls recently), incomplete (i.e. it excludes a significant portion of the world) and does not appear to account accurately for progressive tax systems (i.e. it seems to take the top tax bracket). It clearly excludes many developed nations. I see were you are trying to head with this, but comparing apples and apples, it does not support the argument.

On a comparative basis, i would consider countries like the US, UK, Japan, China, India, Australia, Indonesia, Russia etc etc. Their income tax rates are comparable (relatively), but their social services are drastically different.

Anyway, maybe we should have a global tax discussion thread for this.

Honestly? I consider rebates in general enough of a pain in the ass. Also, for 90% of my online transactions I use a pre-paid GreenDot card because I've been screwed over with my checking accounts one too many time. I'm not even positive how Bing CB works, so I don't even know how I'd get the money back using this card.

On a slightly less related note: I've lost count of how many times I've found money that I "lost" for moths on end. Heck, a few years back I used to occasionally slip a $20 into one of the books in my library. I'd never remember which one, so occasionally I still find money in my books. It's like Literary Christmas.

That being said, I never trust to get back any kind of refunds. I've been screwed so many times that I consider them a possible benefit, not a reason to buy at any specific time or from a specific vendor.

With the prices staying this high I won't be upgrading for a long time.

This.

The cards been out for how long and it's still in the $400 ball park? I think I'll wait a year when it will be $100.:p:D
