So I have been a very loyal newegg customer since the year 2001. In that time I Have placed several orders per year every year & in total before this month RMA's exactly 2 items & both were less then 20 bucks.. However here is my story of the 1st Motherboard I have ever had the displeasure of RMA'ing

03/25 - Place order for Zotac g43 motherboard
03/30 - Receive motherboard to find that the socket protector was not on the socket & there was a bent pin. Took a bunch of pictures of it. Then install the CPU & Find that it works as the pin is only every so slightly off. 3 hours later when I went to update the bios.. Blammo a black screen & its toast.. Called newegg & They agreed to refund the board with no restocking fee since I have been such a great customer & I Then ordered a replacement motherboard CPU & Memory (went to a Core i3 setup so I could use a brand other then zotac since this wasn't the 1st go around that I wasn't happy with from them).
04/02 - Newegg receives the replacement board back (I got the email to confirm)
04/09 - I Get an email saying that I damaged the board by improperly installing the CPU. I promptly call newegg about this & am reassured that I would be getting a refund within 3-5 days since they were informed of the pin situation. Newegg is able to stop the package from shipping back to me.
04/13 - I Get electronic notification that the motherboard is being shipped back to me.. again. I Get on the phone, again. Newegg apologizes about this. Again & this time the board has already shipped & they must recall it & receive it back before they issue a refund.
04/19 - Newegg receives the package back in there warehouse.
04/25 - since I hadn't heard anything from newegg I decided to give them a call. They apologize again & state that it will for sure be taken care of this time & they will have a refund sent right away that should show on my MasterCard within 3 - 5 business days.
04/28 - I wake up & check my email & what do I find.. God damn mother fucking shipping information for the motherboard they are shipping to me for a 3rd fucking time since this RMA process began. I Got on the phone with them & spoke to someone from there escalations dept. I Was assured that they would send through for the refund now & not make me wait for them to recall the package again. As I Was just typing the word again in at the end of the previous sentence I got another email.. this time though its hand typed & not system generated saying that the refund has been issued & The package has been recalled.

I Sure hope they get it right this time as I have had my fill & I am ready to take my business elsewhere. Especially since I have another order thats been sitting in my cart but I am waiting till I receive funds back before placing (for another motherboard & 2 different zsalman coolers)

/rant off

I've had good luck with Amazon when they have a product available; typically they're much more customer service oriented than a PC shop.

up until this newegg has never given me a reason to shop around. But between this & them now showing the after rebate price on the search list I may be taking a hike elsewhere.

Newegg used to be a guy in his basement, now its a billion dollar company. Its the natural cycle of a business. It gets big and its practices go south.

All you have to do is to shop somewhere else until that place gets big....

Newegg's been good to me lately, but hey, we each have our own experiences.

Superbiiz/ewiz isn't so bad either, especially after i got my SSDs for crazy cheap (pricing error) and they honored it.

I always shop around though. Just picked up a tomtom 340 s live for $174, 2nd day shipped from Amazon. Newegg had it starting at $179, my own store had it at $350 or so, a whole %10 off for being an employee.

I used to buy from certain places because I agreed with their business practices, or felt loyal. Now I shop around because that $10 difference is a week's worth of meals for me.

well i have to say newegg has been pretty good to me i continue to shop there only when i want some things fast i usually get them in less than a week, but i will not make large purchases with them because of the way how they package things. Ewiz/superbiiz ships UPS from cali and it takes a week but overall fast customer service. Amazon eh.. half half? i use to get things within a week now it takes up to 2 weeks but overall good customer service. I find myself looking on TD more for bing cashback.

you spend $520 a year on food? what is your secret?

I always shopped Newegg, and still do, but i have explored more options now (especially Amazon). Newegg's review database really helps.

I've been living off of clif bars and/or hot dogs and tap water/OJ for most of my workweek for the last month, so yes, roughly $10/wk is right. Perhaps a little more

Well newegg let me return a cpu for an actual refund I don't know if thats good or bad, it's good because they did it even though their policy says no, but their policy sucks. So it's like they only over coming their own suckiness and not much else.

I like how my eating habits hijacked this thread so long. Either way, Wiseoracle is right. My degree isn't as versatile as most, and it relies on local gov't to not freeze hiring every other cycle, and thus, I've got two part time jobs. Recently, due to my intense dislike for one of my bosses, I've began to seriously look outside of NYC/LI for law enforcement jobs, and have two tests coming up. But for now, I'm putting away as much cash as I can, which means skimping on meals and other stuff if I have to.

All this could of been avoided if you had just returned the item that you found was damaged when you got it, rather than attempting to use it for some reason.

CDW was started by a guy in his garage as far as the story goes. CDW got too big and left an opening for someone to come along and fill the opening.

Right now it appears that zipzoomfly and mwave are a couple of etailers that might be attempting to fill the gap newegg is opening up. newegg still offers some bargains but it is wise to shop around and see what the prices the competition is selling for if you want to get the best deal. I have not noticed that newegg's customer service is any better than any of the other half way reputable etailers. As long as the issue is cut and dry the seller's policy is what you should expect if there is an issue.

Customer service only knows what the company told them and are often clueless as to any knowledge of the source of the inventory.

Newegg claimed they were an authorized Pioneer car audio dealer to me but Pioneer said different. Newegg then claimed it was an authorized Pioneer reseller but Pioneer said different. Newegg then said they were just a reseller and all one needed to do was to register the serial number at Pioneer.com and you had a valid manufacturer's warranty. Pioneer said sorry, that does not mean a thing, only sales from authorized dealers are warrantied. Newegg said not to worry if there is an issue they will help deal with Pioneer.

I refused delivery and newegg refunded my money, not worth the hassle to me especially when Pioneer car audio products can be bought from an authorized online dealer for less than what newegg charges for gray market, newegg claims they do not sell gray market but it does not seem to be the case. No point in buying gray market at retail prices.

Just because the item description on newegg lists details of the manufacturer's warranty does not mean it actually is covered by the manufacturer. Reminds me of eBay auction descriptions.

I still spend the extra few bux ordering from Newegg (unless theres a dramatically cheaper deal elsewhere)

I've had to use their customer service a few times and i've been happy with the results.

My only gripe is when i recieve something that is supposed to be brand new when it's obvious someone else has already opened it up and done god knows what with it lol

Yeah, Newegg has really gone down as a place to find cheap hardware. I rarely ever buy anything from Newegg nowadays, it's all TigerDirect or wherever the deals happen to be.

Of course people can do whatever with there money and business is business. That aside I do have a some observations about Newegg and their competition to Amazon.

IIRC Newegg used to ship items together (I'm thinking like 2001 ish), now they ship them separately. They claim its because they are coming from different ship centers / warehouses. Every item carries a shipping charge instead of bundling the items for a overall cheaper shipping. So shipping costs on a new computer build from scratch can be significant if every piece arrives separately.

Whenever I see an item listed for "free shipping" on Newegg, I can (almost) guarantee that it is also carried by Amazon. If it is, I automatically buy it from Amazon.

Which is my final point. I remember when checking "rush" for $2.99 meant something with Newegg. Now it really doesn't (IMO). However, every time I order from Amazon, it gets here quick. And no $2.99 "rush" charge.

I apologize for derailing the thread somewhat, but I am still curious to how someone lives off of $520 of food per year in the US.

My current PC build is 100% Amazon. Great prices, fast shipping, and if you have Amazon Prime like me its an even better deal. Newegg lost me as a customer two years ago, not gonna miss them, not with the level of service Amazon proviced.

Currently I only buy from newegg if they are cheaper than zipzoomfly, mwave and buy.com. I miss the old newegg but I don't think that they would go back to the way they used to be even if they were able to. For me it is time to move on and support smaller businesses who better, IMHO, appreciate my business. I seldom buy from Amazon, I live in WA State and have to add sales tax to the price so usually I can buy elsewhere for less.

I'm Canadian and I have never been able to buy from any of those aside from newegg.ca opening recently.

What was the "way they used to be"? What changed?

They used to offer free shipping on most items and only charge tax in California. Not to mention good prices on their products and great RMA terms. Also they didn't have the automatic price adjustment/gouging on popular items before.

That argument really doesn't work against Amazon. Amazon is huge AND does excellent.
I think it has more to do with your leadership focusing on customers.
When you focus on customers- you staff up (enough staff to handle your customers), and worry about keeping customers happy than the bucks. Because it naturally follows: happy customers equals profit.

I just went through this whole Newegg thing again today.
$30 for a refurb'd Linksys cable modem on Newegg. $8 shipping (three days). I need it by Saturday.
I explained this, and asked if I'd get it by Saturday (as their website won't give me an estimated day of delivery... assumed CS could tell me what warehouse and do a calculation what day it would be here). Their first response? "We don't have Saturday delivery".... Nice way to totally miss the point of the question.
After explaining how he missed the point, his next statement? "We usually take 24-48 hours to process the order". At that point I gave up and just ordered it off Amazon for the same price, 2 day shipping (which prior to ordering it even told me it'd be here on Friday) for free.

Newegg is just "another" retailer to me now. For PC hardware, I usually still stop by there. For anything else, they kindof suck.

Newegg used to be something like Mwave, Meritline, etc... Small retailers, selling stuff for cheap, and focused on customers.

To be fair, tax isn't something they can really control. They could eat the cost, but then that'd affect the price to the other states that didn't have to pay tax.
