Corsair H50 CPU Cooler Preview.

i was thinking the same thing. 20c seems like way too much of a difference, unless your case isnt setup properly for the h50.
 
I have a decent sized mid tower (Chenbro xpider) that I had previously put a blow hole in the top between the PSU and Drive bays. It was the perfect place to put the H50 with fan going in from top the case. I went this route because I did not want to recirculate video and power supply exhaust back into the case due to the fan sucking in from the back. I have pretty cool mb temps so nothing was badly affected.

I did test my 930 at over 4.2, max temps were in the low to mid 70's.
I decided to run my 930 at 3.6 with turbo boost on, it runs at about 65º under P95 torture test...so it's a good buy for the price as long as you can figure out a way to make sure the airflow is working right.

The big benefit is it works as well as the most expensive air coolers while costing less while being very simple to install.

A high end water cooler it is NOT, but think of the price difference. It's really worth it unless you want to go for max OC continously or you want to water cool graphics cards, but did I mention price differences already...there you go.
 
Doesn't sound right. I'd like to try linx, where can I down load it and try it?

At 3.8GHZ my H50 keeps my Q9550 below 60c on all four cores running OCCT linpack.

Download the latest intelburn, id prefer intelburn.

Agree, I just got my i7 920 up to 3.8 (speedstep off and HT on) last night and it runs prime between 65-67c. And that's before the AS5 has cured.

Prime doesn't stress so much, try linx/intelburn with 3.5+ Gb RAM (given you have 4gb) on maximum.

I have silverstone FT02 and i have tried both stock and puch&pull setup and I got roughly the same temps but somewhat noisier with puch&pull.
 
I found that my H50 gives me the same temps. (Give or take 1-2C) as my Megahalem, only difference is the inside of my case is less obstructed now there isn't a huge metal block on the CPU.
 
I went from H50 to NH-D14

I had 85c in linx with H50 (push&pull). With D14 I got 65c! And it even much quieter than H50.

Can anyone else confirm this? The Noctua is actually quieter than the H50? That's my primary concery first and foremost. I can't stand a noisy rig. If I have to give up some OCing headroom in exchange for silence, so be it.

in my experience the stock fan is one of the best ive used. i just wish they sold them separately so you could have a native push/pull config.

what are your rig specs? how far do you plan on oc-ing?
 
Haven't built it yet as I'm on the fence between waiting for Microcenter to possibly get some 920s back in stock or just pulling the trigger on a 930.

What I'm looking at so far is:

i7 920/930
EVGA X58 SLI
Thermaltake 850W modular PSU
GSkill 6GB 1600 kit
H50 or now possibly Noctua
Antec Three Hundred Illusion case (wanted a Nine Hundred Two, but I don't think it will fit in my desk)

I'd like to keep my temps under 70C (I'm just uncomfortable with anything more) and as quiet as possible. I assume that means I won't be hitting 4.0Ghz, but c'est la vie.

His comment about the Noctua being quieter than the H50 really caught my attention though.
 
Ok, what the hell I'm I doing wrong? I have the H50 and my idle temps are around 40c. Ambient in my office is around 77 f. I used Artic Silver 5. Should I take off the pump and reset it. I thinking it's not getting good contact with the TIM. I think my airflow is good. I did put the radiator fan sucking in. I also have a 120mm at the bottom of my HAF 932 bringing in cool air.
 
Guess I'm sittin pretty, 30c idle 50c load with an ambient of around 75-78f. Panzerbox and it's 190mm fans ftw. Don't hear the fan on the h50 either...might have somethin to do with those 190 fans though...or the two 5870s...

dont fell like reading the whole thing but what was the setup on the H50 stock fan only or push/pull the air cooler is 2 fan push/pull so duh its going to be better its moving more air let me know when he re does it with the same 2 fans on the H50

then there is the size issue the Noctua is HUGE again tons more cooling area it better be better then the H50
id love to see it vs a 120.2 setup id bet it would be damn close

I posted a link to my test of the D14 vs the H50. It's one page back in this thread. For convenience, though, I have included the link, below. In my post I included data for the H50 in push-pull, and with a Scythe fan. I also included data for the D14 with 3 CM R4 fans rather than the stock 2 Noctua fans. In all cases the D14 was still more efficacious than was the H50.

there is no doubt about this. I used to run an h50 but switched to a megahalems and saw temps drop by around 10c. I think the little h50 starts to lose some of its ability at 4ghz+.
 
Just pulled the trigger on one of these to go along with the i7 system I'm building. Yes, I've managed to wait this long before finally building one. I'm hoping the H50 will get me to at least 3.6 at under 70C load. I suppose we'll find out soon enough...

I think it's a great value for a self contained effective liquid cooling solution. Very pleased with it so far. I've had mine for almost 6 months now.

but the issue is high end air can A. cost more B. is heavy C. can block ram slots
for 5 to 10 c higher temps the H50 is a good trade off
and i would bet at 120.2 ver would be even closer

Its a good cooler but if you are trying to hit high speeds with an i7 then you would be better served with a high end air cooler. And I am not just saying this... I have used the H50 extensively.

But otherwise its an impressive performer for its size.

I have run every stress program to my knowledge and I still have never crashed this system nor got this i7 hotter then 68c on my H50

prime95 is no stress test compared to intel burn test... intel burn test gets my machine the hottest and proves that my system is stable,... compared to just running prime95 for 12 hours :rolleyes:

I must have just got a good chip, or my H50 is better then anyone else :p I have talked to lots of people getting the same or even better results then I am getting

ambient temp is generally around 68F to 72F, (temp gauge sitting right outside my case)

Don't believe me fine, I could care less, not going to waste my time posting pictures that you will just say have been photo chopped anyways :rolleyes:

from what I have seen from other peoples temps and my own (check out the massive thread at overclock.net regarding the h50) with i7's clocked at 4ghz+ they all seem to range from 75c to the 80's. Its not that I don't believe its that your temps aren't on par with what I have seen myself and I had mine set up with push n pull with lower voltage then yours as well.

Also I have found small fft's to get my temps hotter then intel burn test. I mean a quick 10 minute test of prime95 isn't asking too much. Also do you have hyper threading enabled?

Well, I'm about to give up on this. This thing is not seating correctly. It looks like the inside part of the plate is not contacting the CPU. I've reseated it 4 times now. Added some TIM. Re spread it out again. I think I've gotten one that is not flat or something. I guess I can go back to BB and try another one.

Temps: 41 47 43 48 on the last reseat. It's worse than the previous. This is idle at around 78 ambient.

keeps my i7 860 around 90f ish not oc i got it at best buy for $60 cause the had the wrong price on it
 
How much variability in temps are people seeing from the fans alone? Is 5-10C too much to expect from replacing 2 somewhat generic CoolerMaster fans (not R4's) in push-pull exhaust mode with something like gentle typhoon AP15's? I'm running an i7 860 at 3.85GHz getting temps in the low 70's C at load with HT off.
 
I think the main advantage of this (and similar) cooler has gone missing: Ruggedness!

It put much less strain on the motherboard when the brunt of the cooler weight is carried by the case, which allows the computer to endure higher G-forces than with a regular high end heatpipe cooler. This in turn will for example make it possible to send the computer by regular mail without having it broken by the rough handling.

If I were to design/build a portable gaming computer to be hauled around to friends and LAN-parties this type of CPU cooler would be a given choice.

Etailers mail assembled PCs all the time. That's why Asetek designed this LCLC concept aimed at the OEM market.

Just installed my new H50 last night. I haven't had a chance to do much testing with it, but it is idling at 17c, 6c below what I was getting with my Tuniq Tower 120.

I also didn't have to give up a pint of blood to get it installed, unlike with the Tuniq, so that was nice.

I mailed a fully built computer that had a 1/2"ID single loop with a 2x120mm rad in it to like New York I think, made it there and the buyer plugged it in and it worked flawlessly

Should be possible. I'm at 3.6 with a 920 and full load after 15 min. has my hottest core right at 69-70C with HT turned on and speed step on and turbo off. Don't remember my vcore at the moment though.

Running push/pull with two gentle typhoon fans at 50cfm each (1450 rpm fans approx.)

72°F ambient and a RV02 case

Went looking and couldnt find it but there is a rather recent news piece about an x2 card (cant remember Nvidia or ATI) that snapped the slot off the motherboard from its weight...while the system wasnt moving. My opinion (IMO = in my opion, maybe you missed that in my post) is that your taking a rather unnecessary risk mailing a built PC. I understand companies ship them like that all the time but if one breaks and is RMA'ed, they can handle the costs. I for one, dont make enough money to rebuild an expensive piece of equipment such as these.

oh and last time I checked, you really can assemble a computer any other way then industry standard...something to do with slot designs and circuitry mumbo jumbo...so trying to insult my abilities is not only uncalled for and childish...but its also not really possible.

not everyone is as uber le3t as you and can build a PC, so I have built PCs for these people and shipped them their PC... like I stated in my last post that I have shipped PCs with water cooling systems with water in them and computers with multi card PCI bay slots... I have NEVER had a problem shipping, either that or my customers have never complained about getting a PC that didn't work (highly doubtful, they would let me know and I have always followed up to make sure it worked etc.)

ANYWAYS,.... How bout them H50s eh?
 
Is it normal to hear water sound from a running H50?

I've been hearing since yesterday when I completed my new build. Check everything but it doesn't look like its leaking or anything, just kept hearing those sound like water dripping, heh.
