NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 Final Specs & Pricing Revealed

Wow nVidia is really losing traction in terms of power consumption/performance/price...basically everything. Looks like AMD is going to be dominating the market for a while.

it might look like that right now but its far from being real. Nvidia has just finished what AMD is still creating for the 6000 series, its just that nvidia went further this gen than amd and it doesnt mean nvidia is falling behind.

nVidia sure thinks it is :)

I didn't read all the pages, but damn does anyone else think that this is way too high for a single GPU solution? You'd thinkn with what tech we have today, we could make a smaller impact on wattage. Ohh well, nice to see they are finally rolling out something new. Kinda getting annoyed at all the crap they've been taking because ATI made it first to this or that...

On a side note, I'm kinda pissed that ATI/AMD can come out with drivers with more frequency than nVidia.

Vrzone mentioned those benchmarks from that old rumor that was posted here 3 weeks ago so i wont use that as a fact.

there is a good chance that 470 will beat the 5870 by at least 15% in all dx11 game benchmarks.

then loose by 5-10% because of the new ATI drivers :)

There is no nextgen in Nvidia's part.

It brings 3d Gaming, Multimonitor gaming, and DX11 to the Nvidia line of Graphics cards.

All of which ATI already has.

the irony of nV fanbois is that back in the GTS2/radeonMaXX days it was the ATI fanbois that were the rabid ones.

that said. This is the cyclical nature of hardware development. ATI has a breakthrough.. nV catches up, in turn has it's own breakthrough.. ATI catches up... so on and so forth.. same as it ever was.. SMACK!

These cards will certainly hammer through as GPGPUs.. there should be no question about that, it seems to be where nV is heading to now that their chipset market is gone. . How will that help gaming though? yeah yeah phYsix, whatever, I have yet to play anything that made me go wow.. all I do know is, when I disable it my frames go through the roof so what's the gain?
I personally prefer ATI, maybe it's the underdog thing, not sure but i've always thought it was a better image, not really anything I could put my finger on but it was just a better picture. ATI has this round, maybe even the next couple if they play their cards right but nV certainly isn't just going to go away.

have had a great experience with my nV's but due to the companies practices I will be going back home to ATI in my next upgrade.

5870=9700... strange, it does seem to add up

at 1024x 1280 in dx9 games is not a big deal i think.

Boy you sure are trying to save face now bro. Not working.

Nvidia is late, Hot as hell, and slower then ATIs offering from 6 months ago.

And bring nothing new to the table that isnt out already..

5-10% faster at what resolution? In eyefinity or nfinity mode with 3 monitors? If this translates to 30% faster on my single 30" monitor at 2560X1600 over a single 5870 then I'm sold. Otherwise I'll wait until the price drops on the current ati line and I'll bite. My 4870x2 is still going strong!!

A single card can't run nFinity, so obviously the difference is at a more normal resolution.

i wont go too crazy over 2-3 fps gain at 1920x1200 res and over. i was just over amd forums and people are still reporting problems in 2d, crashing, etc with these new drivers.

at 1024x768 in dx9 games is not a big deal i think.

you make no sense, there is only trolls for you, nothing more...

Also, tessellation IS NOT the only feature from DX11, therefore DX11 game WILL NOT be faster on Fermi, no matter what you claim and what you smoke out of it...

You really need to get off what you smoking and FACE the reality...

uh.... you still not making any sense here..

and I just look over the nVidia forums with people having crashing issue too, does that mean nVidia driver sucks with newer driver? even the latest one still not WHQL .....
oh, and people are also reporting their card got burn... sounds a lot worse than your imagination?

Not sure sure, If its 10% faster then the 5850, should be like 5% slower then the 5870.

Also dont forget ATI just release new drivers with huge increases in games. Will be interesting to see these new drivers against Nvidia's new cards.

I Think even Kyle said they would be using the new ATI Drivers for there Nvidia Evaluation.

huh? 5850 compare to 5870 have at least 20% difference..
even the [H] review shows that...

therefore GTX 470 should be at least 10% less performance than 5870..

and from the new drivers, the performance gap is even larger...

LOL you dont think a 10% faster card doesnt = to 2-3 fps?

You are so trying man. This is now the 2nd time you failed

P.S. thats why they are called beta drivers :) And dont think Nvidia drivers are any better, they as just as bad as ATI's (Nvidia Killing cards in the last set of drivers ring a bell?)

Fanboys

What a horrible waste of oxygen.

Instead of having an intelligent and rational conversation, we're stuck with shitload of, "my team is better than your team." No objectivity, no open-minded perspective, just a bunch of idiotic out-group bias.

Oh well. If dumb people did not exist, we would have no basis to measure the intelligent by.

I am a bit surprised an alarmed by how low these prices are. This could indicate a truly sore return from Fermi which would be shitty. Guess we'll see soon

You Kind sir make it into my signature. +10 cool points.

Yes anyone looking at those OLD BENCHMARKS, done awhile ago clearly forget the last few driver release by ATI including the one delivering quite hefty performance increases -across the board at -ALL- resolutions. Also lets not keep forgetting upon release of these cards it was felt there's something holding them back, big time. i imagine that will be proven upon revision, but again alot of this is speculation. I don't do the fanboyism crap myself, used parts from all the major brands. But if you got your head stuck so far up your ass that you need to stick to brand loyalism then by all means, limit yourself, your PC, and your wallet all you like, it does not effect those of us far more objective. ATI wins this round, moving on to GTX5xx and HD6xxx.

you should wait for official 470 benchamarks to come before coming up with these numbers.

As should you :) $50 cheaper and 10% faster then a 5870? Where did you pull those numbers from Mr. Wait for the official Benchmarks to come out man?

I think it's more like ~15% really, tbh.

Keep in mind that is a very, very short list, and your very short minded mentality is slacking.

the revision of ATI's cards are around the corner. reality is that Fermi needed to smash this gen, to beat ATI's next gen. Nvidia at this point literally needed to skip a generation of cards, they have not. Have fun with Fermi!

the only person that's trolling and flaming right now is you.

No sir. I am simply showing where you are wrong, and where the 470 and 480 might not be as good benchmark wise since the new ATI drivers came out.

And there is proof of those increases in benchmarks.

the same gen gpu was supposed to smash the 5870? where did you hear that?

there was no need to call me names, what dont you get?

I do not name call. No need for it. I was stating the truth in all my posts.

Again, Saying the 470 is $50 cheaper and beating 5870's by 15% is wrong. Specially with the new drivers coming out.

Dualown says "there is a good chance that 470 will beat the 5870 by at least 15% in all dx11 game benchmarks."

Again that is trolling by making that statement. Look what VR said

"Internal benchmarks reveal that GeForce GTX 470 is some 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850"

Again saying the 470gtz will be 15% faster then a 5870, when a VR says something totally different?

No Sir I did not call you name. I stated a fact, and that Fact is you are a Troll.

Aren't we expecting the actual retail prices to be far above these MSRPs? ATIs 5000 series prices still are, and if anything I'd expect there will be far less 470/480's to go around.

look at your post, now that's what you call trolling and flaming at once.

and btw, VR didnt do any of those benchmarks.

IT's ok DO, You got called out on your poopy trolling, and now you are upset.

Either way. listen to your own words (WAIT FOR THE BENCHMARKS)

Pretty funny when he says this about 4 posts before this one. "there is a good chance that 470 will beat the 5870 by at least 15% in all dx11 game benchmarks"

Funny guy

saying: "that there is a good chance" and saying "5870 will be 20% faster than 470" are not the same.

Well at least he toned down his blatant fanboyism, in earlier threads he'd claim the 480 would match or beat the 5970 in DX11 games.

DASHIT, you are taking this forum too seriously.

why does it bother you so much if im predicting the 470 to be faster than 5870 in future dx11 games that you have to make up stories that im trolling?

Take a chill pill guys and stay on topic. If you have issue with other posters, please feel free to use the ignore feature.

Assuming the performance predictions are what represent the final products...

The cheapest 5850s are hovering around $315~ so a $350 price tag for the 5-10% faster 470 isn't TOO bad...
*however*
With new release price jacks it's going to be hard to actually find one for MSRP.
On top of that I doubt the 5850's would stay at the current prices for long, remember these were originally intended to be priced @ $260.
ATi has much more room headroom for price cutting.

Looks like performance/price is ATi again this round.
The TDP isn't helping either.
GTX 480 for 5-10% faster than 5870 with a $100+ higher price tag and insane TDP is not convincing.

GTX470 only 5-10% faster than Radeon HD 5850? And similar with the 480 and 5870. Quite a letdown, especially this late in the game with a horrible TDP. I surely hope they will be cheaper. I seriously expected something better.

It's really hard to say for certain, but I expect a very limited launch inventory to be close to MSRP, but quickly run out of stock, and then see the prices ramp up with the next batches the e-tailers get in. A large number of Nv fans will buy Fermi whether it sucks, is great, or lies some where in between. So initial stock will prolly go fast regardless.

vr didnt do any those benchmarks so nothing is official.

dont forget, NDA doesnt end until the end of March, so everything on the net right now is bogus.

but my prediction is that 470 should be just as fast if not faster than 5870 in heavy dx11 games.
