Is it worth $80 to get another 8800GT for SLI?

I have been gaming on my 8800GT for a while now quite happily. It runs almost everything at decent framerates and settings. Right now I game mostly at 1680x1050, but I have a 1080p plasma that it might be cool to game on. Do you think it is worth $80 to get another 8800GT for SLI and get some more oomph or should I just stick with my single card til a much better midlevel card comes down in price?

For reference. I have a SLI capable 720w enermax PSU, core i5 and MSI GD65 board so I shouldn't be held back there at all.

wait for the mid level and turn your 8800gt into a phsyx card? :D

Hmm, that actually sounds like the right idea. Not sure why I didn't think of that!

I'd wait till you can afford a new card that will be much faster than 8800gt sli. It's not a big step from $80 to $150 for the performance increase you'd see. You can also look the the FS/FT forum and pick up a good card at a great price.

As someone who uses a 8800GT SLI setup, No. It's not worth it this late in the game -- your better off waiting or getting something in the 2-300 range.

For that kind of money, you might find someone wanting to sell a later gen card (9800, etc) that would be a huge step up from your 8800gt.

I hate to poopoo here but no 9800 series would be a huge step up not even a 9800gtx+/gts250. I'd say look on the forums here and grab one for 50-60 bucks. 80$ is extremely on the highend.

i'd personally save up a few extra bucks and grab something that's at least the 5770 level (or nvidia equivalent)

I originally had 2 8800gt cards in sli, i gave 1 to my in laws and kept the other as a physx, my main card is now my 4890 which still rocks for all my games at 1080p.

No it wouldn't since the 9800 series is just the 8800 with a new name...

I've been running with two 8800GTs in SLI since I set up my computer and it's been able to handle any game I have thrown at it.

Yes Crysis included though I couldn't go full eye candy but just one notch down which still looked great.

Anyways I remember looking in to wanting to upgrade, SLI'ed 8800GTs seem to run as well as a 260 series, and if you can snag a good deal with another 8800GT than do that. Otherwise look in the 5xxx or 28x and above to stay with one video card.

My 9800 comment was directed at more a 9800GTX/GTX+ than anything else. I agree, anything less than that would be a waste of money.

I had a very nice boost from adding another 8800GT back in the day. But in new games I doubt it would hold well. I haven't been in touch with GFX in a while but for $80 it doesn't sound like a terrible deal...

I'm also not sure about PhysX but almost no games use that, so what's the point?

If you're strapped for money I say just get the 8800GT SLI'd. If you can wait and save up, or wouldn't mind spending more, might as well go high end and have peace of mind.

Sell your 8800GT for $80 and put that $160 towards a radeon 5770 or a gtx 250. Though i'd go with the 5770 for better performance and dx 11.

I'm in the same boat as him, but I was wondering if a 280GTX is a big enough jump from an 8800gt for $200. It's either that or a GTX260 for $140. Which would you guys choose?

I went from a 8800GT SLI to a GTX 280 and yes there was a good jump. I'm now debating if going to a 5870 is worth it for the cash/hassle at this point...but that's now what you were asking! :D
