Major NVIDIA announcement monday @ 9am PST

They should change the name of the card. Seriously. It is an insult to Enrico Fermi, I mean with all their fuckups.

This card has high expectations. It better be able to walk the dog and make waffle fries or people are going to be pissed.

Simple enough, change the name to "Fergie" -she's hot but doesn't really do anything we haven't seen before either. :D

Does anyone really believe all but a handful of reviewers and maybe 1,000 or so people will be able to get a 470? A week after the release every store will have it out of stock, even if the reviews don't paint a pretty picture because people have to support "green" and e-tailers can the jack up the price on both the fermi and the 5850's and 5870's because all the fence sitters like me will buy up cards after the release.

Only way this can be good for us "consumers" is if and when TSMC and Nvidia can work out yield issues and the supply is sufficient enough to spurn competition. Basic Econ 101, supply and demand, learned it from the best econ school out there, University of Chicago. So everyone who's hoping for market/price movement in april or may is just setting themselves up for failure. Kind of like the Fermi announcement, you guys actually expected something via twitter when Cebit is so close? Even if they had working final prototypes, after 6 months delay they're not going to reveal anything via twitter, marketing wise it makes no sense. Cebit allowed the perfect forum for them to release a product as big as Fermi. So seriously, everyone take a chill pill, relax, save your money, wait til the late summer when Nvidia/TSMC can work out kinks, supply enough chips (even the 5850/70 had yield issues when first released and ATI had a year's worth of R&D going to 40 nm with the 4770).

All this anger is really amusing and entertaining... haha seriously... it's so damm selfish and immature, all you babies take one step back and look at the big picture. It's not like Nvidia doesn't know they F'ed things up. Hell as I speak their stock dropped over 2% from the opening and over 10% in a month. Honestly, some of you guys are acting like 5 year olds throwing a tantrum cause you didn't get your ice cream. That shite's hildarious. :D

CrazyCuz2k> It's not like Nvidia doesn't know they F'ed things up.

They still pretend like they didn't, which is weak. And no, it doesn't matter to me if that's SOP.

Haha well the CEO did say a couple of months ago that building video cards is hard. If that's any consolation.

I see, now they are calling it a "launch" date instead of an "unveil". Good job PR department.
Perhaps they should consider using a format that doesn't limit them to 140char for their press releases . Seriously, who are the idiots working at these multi-billion dollar companies who are deciding that Twitter is an appropriate medium for their companies to communicate effectively with the public?

Gotta say I wrote an email with the same sentiments yesterday....

And for the record......

More Fermi Rumors - Not Good
NVIDIA had a big get-together in Hong Kong last week where a lot of the NVIDIA upper brass was on hand. It is being rumored that the first "Fermi build kits" were supposed to be prepped to go out to AIBs but NVIDIA missed the mark on having its Fermi tech ready to pass off to builders. We also heard the "Gemini" name being batted around as well and this seems to be connected to a dual GPU Fermi card. We still feel as though NVIDIA is aiming for getting Fermi shipping by the last week of February, but still think it will miss this mark. HardOCP's best guess right now is late March with any quantity to speak and we are still giving NVIDIA about even odds of marking March. April 2010 is looking more reasonable to us at this time.

GTX 480 better be at LEAST 40% faster then 5870. Because otherwise who is going to buy it? Also warranty has been lowered from two to one year?

just pulled the trigger on a 5870. nvidia...what a joke this round.

i haven't been this excited for a video card launch since the 8800GTX.

LOL you're kidding right? The 8800 GTX at least doubled performance over anything else out at the time. Forget Charlie, even
Kyle speculates that Fermi won't be a big improvement over 5870. ;)

Its not a crime to be excited my man. If the guy is excited so be it. What's it to you?

Announcement of an announcement to make an announcement, nice.

in case anyone missed it, like i did..

i just saw this over at ve3d.. it appears that the March 26th IS the release date for Fermi

Nvidia va ve3d.com said:
Apologies for the confusion around our most recent GF100 update. To clarify, launch date for GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 is March 26, 2010.

i'm assuming that is the day the NDA lifts and the review sites can post their benchmarks/reviews. I'm really hoping that the [H] has one in had , if not now then in the next few weeks . hopefully kyle and the crew can get a good fermi review up.

just out of curiosity how long would it take the [H] to review a card (if they got the card in March 20th would 6 days be sufficient time to review it?)

Or the guy that's excited probably fell into a coma in November and just woke up today. Now that I can understand being excited for Fermifail. Should be renamed to Fergie anyone agree? E. Fermi is rolling in his grave right now for the slander.

I'm really looking forward to the [H] review. Kyle's colorful language when it comes to these botched releases is always amusing. I still laugh when I remember Kyle telling ATI that [H] wasn't its personal PR bitch.

You know we have very good reasons to think the same as Kyle. Fermi was supposed to be released around the same time as cypress. I expected a 10-15% speed improvement at that time last year.

Although they are late I still expect the same performance compared to the current 5870, but ATI will now have the chance to also release slightly faster cards and could/should easily make up the difference.

There have been only a handful of times that ATI or nVidia released a product and the opposing camp had nothing to answer with. I'm not pulling a magically number out of a hat and I base this only on what I've seen before. ATI and nVidia are usually not very far away from each other. Sometimes disasters happen and during one generation one camp gets smoked.

I'm excited, not quite as excited as that release, but NV has always given us solid video cards...

While I don't like Nvidia as a company due to all their business practices, they still give us good video cards.

Shit...I remember back in the day, I forked out over $400.00 for my 1st bad ass Nvidia card...Ti4600.... Then after the wonderful 6800gt, I shelled out almost 600 bucks on NewE$$ for a BFG 7900GTX...This is the nature of the beast...I can wait another month...I am a Nvidiot, and I am proud of it...Bring on FERMI.....I'm ready to piss out $700.00 fukin' dollas......My 8800gt'sli babies are getting tired......

Wow you paid alot for the Ti4600, I paid $320 (over priced haha) for a gainward Ti4600.

edit: I'd probably mention I have no preference for either camp in the high end, but I'm definitly a fanATIc on the HTPC market.

I remember reading Kyle saying they prefer ~2 weeks. He said they can and have done it in less, but it requires long hours. The real world reviews talk a lot longer than just running benchmarks for 10+ games.

Looks like you need new mobo/ram/cpu first. :p

In that case I can't wait to see the benchmarks.

Just as a random comment, is it bad if I call March 26th the toilet paper launch of Fermi?

Thou doth protest too much.

Everyone is excited about the fermi release, particularly you. If you weren't what are you doing posting message after message about fermi? I for example am not excited about flower arranging and that has meant I haven't joined a single forum or posted a single message on the subject, or ever even felt the urge too.

I suggest there have been more posts about fermi then any other graphics card ever - the buzz is huge.

I wish this month will blast by so I can see some actual numbers on this Fermi card.

BFBC2 is this first game(w/ AA) in Months that has ever stressed my card badly, and now I am getting that upgrade itch and dont want to go RED until I see some good comparisons.

Yes, the buzz is huge. But not because everyone is excited about Fermi. At this point, I'd say the majority of people are either angry or amused depending on their individual situations.

Some people have been holding off upgrading their systems for five months now because Nvidia keeps saying "Wait for it! Fermi is coming!". They're the angry ones.

Other people are either not currently in the market for a new card or have gotten tired of the wait and purchased an ATi card instead. They're the ones who are amused (at the angry ones).

Either way you look at it, it's not the type of buzz Nvidia PR was hoping for.

Angry? - the *anger* in hardocp seems to be coming from ati fanboys who never had any intention of buying fermi, but seem to feel that we should all hate nvidia because they slept with their mother or something. They really want nvidia to fail, and hence post something along those lines 10 times a day in any thread they can find. They probably have wet dreams of negative fermi reviews that go on to say how rubbish it is and how good the ati whatever is.

There is an equally large bunch of nvidia fanboys who really want ati and the 58xx to fail. Expect them to appear in force gloating like they've won the lottery if fermi rocks.

The rest of the world are looking forward to fermi, hoping it is good because that means new buying choices and cheaper prices, but don't really care that much because they will just buy whatever is best when they need a card.

You've been drinking too much Nvidia PR Koolaide. Just look at the twitter page filled with angry responses from Nvidia fans yes greenies, says you're fool of it.

I disagree. How could ATi fans be angry about Fermi? If anything, they're gloating about how late it is and that there has been virtually no info released about it. The angry posts seem to be coming from former Nvidia fans who got tired of waiting and said, "Screw this, I'm buying a 58XX".

Given the current pricing and lack of availability of the GTX 200 series and the extremely delayed Fermi launch, the 5800 series currently has Nvidia beaten at pretty much every price point. It seems a bit late now to be hoping that the 5800 series will fail. It is already a success.

The rest of the world are looking forward to fermi, hoping it is good because that means new buying choices and cheaper prices, but don't really care that much because they will just buy whatever is best when they need a card.
Agreed.

It's not anger, it's fear. I have not seen this much panic in the ATI crowd since the HD2900 fell down a flight of stairs.

March 26th will send em back under the bridge and tech sites can return to normal. :D

Sounds like denial. Riddle me this nvidiots: 6months late are ati fans really scared?

If Fermi is worth the wait (I highly doubt) I'll buy one. I buy both brands myself only an idiot would defend a company and spin free pr. But here's the kick in the nuts for you, even the most hardcore fans will not get one for a long time 2-3 months according to Kyle. This is going to be an extremely hard to get card. What are Ati fans scared of again? Oh thats right a refresh or the 6 series..oh wait. :)

November no, December, No, January, No late Q1 thats it oh wait.....March 26th will send em back under the bridge and tech sites can return to normal.

Fixed and pwnt

this has been amusing because its like a train crash, but its a train crash that has been happening for 6 months... you just cant look away.
