Im a Logitech G9 user. Had a G7 before that. Cant remember before that. I also have an OCZ NIA that I am''getting used to' (hoping that the next NIA and better sampling software are on the way). I also have a Logitech MX Revolution (I use it for desktop/office/web stuff, the G9 for games). I dont see the point in getting a G500 (I know some will suggest it even though I am saying DONT!), since I had a G7 already (I liked it so much that when the first one died, I got another thats actually still in use on another computer).

I suspect that the Alienware is 'made for Alienware by Logitech', and just a cosmetic swap of a G9x. Also, I wonder if the Roccat isnt the same thing based on a G500.

Anyways, Im looking at the following.... Aww, hell, just vote already!

Well I voted for the TactX mouse, I'd love to see some comments and photos on how it compares to the G9 shape. You're right, TactX stuff is just OEM Logitech, so the mouse should be no different than the G9x preformance wise, but it does look as though it may be a slightly nicer shape.

As someone who has lots of Razer stuff over the years, I think their build quality generally sucks. I have the latest Imperator and it feels much better quality than previous efforts, but problems with the Philips laser sensor still persist when lifting the mouse off the desk. Maybe go for Razer only if the shape is really going to suit you.

Are you really going to gain much from upgrading the G9? I think everything else would be a sideways move.

Out of what you have given for choices, I say the Mamba, but I would recommend the G500 or Deathadder

i am loving my deathadder at the moment. i cannot give you my review of my Mx518 because the damn mouse still has not arrived wich was shipping on the 14th and here it is the 21st. So for now im saying deathadder.

I'm voting for the Roccat Kone. It looks pretty nice and it has the same dpi button placement as the MX518. Plus if you manage to get one and don't like it, you can sell it to me. :D

Yeah, after looking at it online more and then keeping in mind the Alienware 'G9x' clone, I wonder if that is all that the Roccat really is... some G500 or MX 518 underneath. The Alienware is alot like a G9 after all, but with the 'multicolor selector' added... wait... so does the Roccat actually... its such a similar trend that it has me wondering...

As for the G500 and MX518. I really dont see a point (as I mentioned in the original post). Yeah, they are good, but I pretty much already have them, and that is why they arent on the list. In fact, I think I might actually have a G500 already (or at least the MX500 or G5)... somewhere... I know I have a MX700 on the woman's computer, and I didnt get the MX1000.

I also feel that Razer quality is lacking overall. The plastic that they use has been the source of many complaints and failures. I have one buddy who is on his 3rd death adder even though one of the thumb buttons fails/breaks due to use it seems almost yearly. Then again, the fact that he keeps buying it every time it fails tells me he must like it. Still, I hate cheap plastics, and it seems like Razer has only started to change things in this respect.

i just got my MX518SE and i love it. i like the feel better then the deathadder. going to return the adder

I voted for the Razer Mamba.

I originally used a Copperhead when I started gaming. Then I used a logitech G5, but then I switch to the Razer Mamba.

Probably the best wireless gaming mouse ever. Its response time is quick, it is accurate, and it just feels good to hold in your hand

War Mouse Meta. The GodEmperor of Mice, and its open source too! Please note the pics are of the ANCIENT version, not production version. Pre order for 20% off, and it is shipping in April looks like.

I'm voting for Speedlink Kudos. Never heard of this brand before but nice look of this mouse drew my attention so i decided to do some research to find out whether it's good mouse. Despite i hadn't found any review i decided to give this mouse a try and it turned out to be a great choice :).The precision is amazing the same as logitech g500 due to identical sensor - avago 9500. It's very comfortable and fits my medium size hand perfectly. The sides and most of the top have rubber coating and build quality is really good. The driver is easy to use and enable you to change dpi 90-5000 at increments of 90 and have 5 profiles. You can create macros which can be assigned to any of 9 buttons. The only disadventage is that pushing scroll whell is a bit too hard but i'm getting used to it .You just needs to push scroll on its bottom part where resistance is significantly less than in middle and after 4
days since i have used this mouse i have found it to be not difficult at all.
Overall a great value for price. This is probably the best mouse i have ever used and i'm telling that having owned previously mx518 and razer deathadder.
I know my english is rather poor but hope you have understood me well enough.

I've owned multiple Razer mice, mx510 mx518 G5, ms 1.1 ms 3.0 etc, pretty much every legit mouse

SteelSeries Ikari laser is what I'm using at the moment and for the past year or so, and it's the best I've ever used. They have newer mice out, and I want to upgrade. :)

This thread is missing some fundamental information such as what you plan on using the mouse for, if anything specific, and why are you looking for a new mouse? I would imagine the best gaming mice right now would be (depending on which manufacturer you prefer) the Logitech G9x/G500, Razer Imperator/DeathAdder, SteelSeries Xai.

Deathadder. Been using it for about a year and I really like it (I have large hands).

Never heard of it, but I would have to say that it looks good! I starting to think Logitech is cloning their mide for 3rd parties though... Speed Link Kudos looks good!

As for the 'war mouse'... http://www.warmouse.com/

Interesting concept, but I cant imagine its easy to find which button you mean to push with that many... then again, they are arranged in a pattern that might be easy to feel out. Still... that one is a bit out there. I like the joystick thumb... that itself is interesting. I like the suggestion though.

Steelseries Xai... dare I say... not 'innovative' enough to catch my eye?

Still, it seems to have some serious functional advantages, so maybe a good idea.

^^^ CM Storm Sentinel Advance. Oooo, good suggestion.

Cerilia, to respond to your concern. You are right... I havent given a real 'purpose' for this mouse. The truth is, I am happy with my current mice. I am simply a 'mouse whore' of sorts... just want to try something new out. But if it helps... here is what a new mouse could help me with...

I love the G9, but I have rather big mits (if I do the old pinky to thumb stretch & measure that women like to see, Im a good 10.5"). So I dont 'palm' the mouse so much as 'claw' it, and this has been causing some pain in the second joint from the tip on my middle finger. It seems that just about ANY other mouse out there would be better for this though, so I didnt bother mentioning it.

I use a different mouse for general use (mx revolution) so that I 'claw' less.

I'll admit, my personal bias was for the MS sidewinder x8. It seems most people that use it and hate it have smaller hands and this mouse is larger. It seems most people with larger hands though love it. If the mouse is THAT large, maybe it would be a good way to force my hand to 'palm' the mouse again. Otherwise, it seems it has everything that the Mamba has, so why not? Who knows, maybe Ill pick this one up in addition to whatever wins out here.

The thing is, when I start really mashing keys in a game, I can still see myself switching back to the G9 because 'claw' style for me is more accurate. So to say this thing is for gaming isn't the whole truth...lol.

On the other hand, I could use a replacement for my revolution. I love it, but its no longer made, so I should consider looking into a replacement since like the G7 before it, I know the batteries wont last forever, and then what?!?!?

I used to be a logitech guy until I bought an MSIE3.0. Then, I traded up to a razer deathadder 3500, and I haven't looked back since. It's easily the best mouse out of all of them, with the exception of the plastic feeling kinda cheap, but aside from that, I have no complaints at all. Highly, highly recommended.

+1 - if not this, then the Roccat is my second vote.

and the Roccat is 100x better than a G500 - it's a REALLY nice piece of hardware if you can get your hands on one.

I'm sorry, but I could not disagree more with this statement.

Let's get one thing straight professional gaming mouse companies: the absolutely worst problem a mouse can have is when it does not sit evenly on a flat, smooth surface. The CM Sentinel I received from Amazon yesterday rocks back and forth significantly in desktop use, clicking the LMB and moving it side to side. In a game, this is even more noticeable, as it causes minor jitters when I click and inconsistencies in movement. This is absolutely fucking terrible.

I played for about 5 minutes in MW2 before I realized the next major problem: there is a slight delay when picking the mouse up before it starts tracking again. This is even worse (for gaming purposes) than the uneven mouse feet issue. I never noticed it using my G9 because it has no problems, but apparently I pick the mouse up a lot when gaming. When you lose tracking, or it goes slightly haywire for a fraction of a second, it is absolutely DEVASTATING to your gameplay.

All in all, it fell into the same category as many other mice that I have used from companies that aren't Logitech (including Razer, Microsoft and Roccat): it comes in a cool looking box, it has a lot of pointless features like an OLED DPI display, but when it comes down to actual performance, it is complete fucking fail. At this point, I think it holds the record for fastest unboxing to reboxing time for a mouse that I have bought.

Wow, there's actually a vote for every mouse. Great thread. I'm currently using a G9x at the moment but when I retire this mouse, I'll look back at this topic. I'm really feeling the Kone though... always wanted to give Roccat at try.

Ive had many many mice over the years and nothing has suited me like the Sidewinder x8. I have big hands and always had trouble finding a mouse that would accomodate my ring finger.

I owned a G5 and though I really liked the mouse for its various features, it cramped my hand to no end (it is better for people with small-average hands). I owned the Razer Lachesis and its ergonomics didn't fit me right either. Though the Lachesis was sexy, I was extremely disappointed when it died on me at 4 months.

So I began searching for a new mouse and came across the Sidewinder X8. It looked a tad larger than the average gaming mouse and I noticed a distinct ergonomical ridge for the ring finger to rest on. After inspecting the other features (have to do so from photos alone, no place for 40 miles sell these kind of products) such as the placement of the 2 thumb buttons, the on-the-fly DPI adjustment buttons, its 4000 DPI lazer tracker and its macro button, I decided that I would give the X8 a shot.

I bought it from amazon on sale for 50 shipped. When it got here and I began testing it, I fell in love. The ring finger ridge is perfect for larger hand and my hand never cramps up after many many hours of intense gaming. The thumb buttons are perfectly positioned and the tracking is very precise. The scroll wheel itself acts as three seperate buttons ( tilt click and down click) and is easy to access. The three programmable on-the-fly sensitivity adjustment are perfect for gaming application as I can utilize the super high sensitivity (I use 4000 DPI and turn the pointer speed up maxed) and on the fly drop to 2000DPI and 750DPI for those long range, precise sniping situations. The X8 isn't gaudy but remains very attractive.

However, my favorite feature of the Sidewinder X8 is its seamless wireless/wired capabilities. The battery charge lasts for almost 4 days of straight use. There is absolutely no stuttering even when the battery charge is low. The nicest thing about this mouse is the fact that you can continue using it while charging thanks to the magnetized usb connector that slips onto the end of the mouse as if it had always been a wired mouse. Not only are you not hampered down when the mouse is wired and charging, you actually forget it is even attached. To add a cherry on top, the mouse goes from completely dead to fully charged in about 20 mins, thus allowing you to go wireless for another 4 days straight!

In conclusion, if you have large hand and appreciate the other features I described above, go with the X8. I was skeptical at first but I'd recommend the Sidewinder X8 to anyone, even over the worthy competition from logitech, razer, ect.

Currently I use a G500 and its the best mouse I've had since the MX518 which I used till I got the G500. If you enjoy the classic Logitech MX shape, the G500 is the best for you. High quality mouse.

Do you even bother reading?

Wow, out of all the times I mentioned in this thread "DONT BOTHER SUGGESTING THE G500, BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!"... the G500 fanboys still keep spamming it.

I HAVE THE G500 ALREADY it turns out... OKAY!?!? Serious asshattery going on here with the attention spans and lack of reading skills.

I voted for the Sidewinder X8. I have an X5 that I really like. Of course you can't go wrong with any of those mice, but the sidewinder x8 is my choice.
