Supposedly suitable as a PC monitor as it is reported to have low input lag, source = AVS forums. Edit: read our reviews and opinions before buying this with the intention of using it as a PC monitor.

VGA port is limited to 1280x1024 so hdmi or DVI is a must.

These use Panasonic IPS-alpha panels.

Coupon Code = BONUSBUY (case sensitive)

Anyone know of a digitalversus type review for this (meaning contrast & response tests with real numbers)? Seems like the only reviews for TV's I can find are all subjective.

Edited my original post to include some Bing cashback details... 2% = another $9 savings.

Not really sure.

I got the L37S1 (37" version of this TV) over BF weekend for $470 :) It's a great TV. As mentioned you have to use HDMI if you want 1920x1080 but I was going to do that anyway so it wasn't an issue. The one issue that this TV has is that reds are oversaturated so they are kind of fuzzy. So far I haven't found a way to fix this but I think there is a service menu that may allow for finer control of the colors.

Other than the reds picture quality is superb. Colors look great and text is sharp and clear as long as it's not red. It uses an IPS panel so viewing angles are good as well. Finally there is little to no input lag. I use it to play World of Warcraft, Heroes of Newerth, and Call of Duty and I have to say gaming on this monitor has changed the gaming experience for me. Highly recommended for an entry level LCD for use with your PC. Again though make sure you have HDMI!!!

So is this 120hz? I'm confused on that stat?

60Hz confirmed

Close, the L32G1 is the 120hz model, it goes for around $100 to $120 more. People say the 120hz effect isn't as visible for some reason (compared to other 120hz tv's).

It's been confirmed to have low input lag as well.

Thanks OP! I am in for one. I will post my review once I receive it!
NP, looking forward to your review.

I think my next LCD needs to be 120hz. I am really impressed with the 120hz motion and a nice strong contrast level matched with a blu-ray player. The effect is startlingly real!

I've bought from 6th Ave's Amazon store a couple times, fast shipping and never any problems.

Well i decided to take the plunge, but i ended up purchasing it elsewhere for about $384 after a 5% coupon and 6.3% Bing cashback, NJ sales tax included. The reason it was so cheap is because i used the in-store pickup option, otherwise there would have been a $30 shipping cost tacked on.

New Jersey residents who live near an Electronics-Expo store: Go to Bing.com and search for the L32S1, then select Electronics-Expo from the list. Add the product to your cart, then use the 5% coupon code: TJOOS. Ignore the "estimated price", you'll see the real price in the last checkout page.

Electronics-Expo has retail stores in Wayne, Paramus, Union, Woodbridge, Succasuna, East Brunswick and Raritan. And Panasonic's official service center is conveniently located in Secaucus NJ, right off interstate 95/NJ Turnpike, near exit 15x i believe.

Going to also pick up a 3yr CPS warranty for $48, when coupled with the mfr 1yr warranty it'll give me four years of coverage.

Picking it up in store tomorrow afternoon, so siked i cannot wait !!!

And of course i'll post my thoughts on it soon, hopefully tomorrow night :)

Interesting... thinking of dumping my 30" LCD for something smaller, but realized I could get a 32" 1080p for about half what I'd sell my LCD for...

My main issue is finding one that actually works for PC's. I bought a Spectre 32" 1080p from Costco and it was terrible for PC usage (VGA or HDMI input). So this time around I want to make sure it will look good.

I had a 37" 1080p Westinghouse which was perfect as a PC monitor (it did have DVI inputs), so I'm trying to find something that looks that good (text wise) for PC usage.

The 8ms response time is troubling... :(

I wonder how bad ghosting is on this LCD ???

I bit. I have been looking for a 32" 1080P TV for a while and this one was on my short list anyway. At this price it was too good to pass up. I can't wait to get it and play Mass Effect 2 on it next week. :p

It supposedly fares well with PC gaming. The only thing i'm really going to keep an eye on are red fonts (which i really don't care about) and edge sharpening (stuff that occurred with older panasonics).

If you're genuinely interested in the topic then you can head over to AVS to research using TV's as monitors.

The LG TV's that come with S-IPS panels are definite winners, too bad only their pricier models come with them now. The westinghouse LVM series can still be found also, but those are technically "monitors" so they were supposed to perform well.

Just because it has 120hz doesn't mean it has motion interpolation (smoothing).

Honestly folks, I haven't seen any panasonic LCD blow me away. Their IPS panels have huge light bleed at an angle, and the motion processing they do have is sub-par. It's not bad, just not that competitive with samsung, sony or sharp. Their plasmas are where it's at, but even then...

Their 60hz tech is competitive imho, I hear high motion/busy scenes perform relatively well, haven't done much research or in store comparisons of the 120hz models though.

The angle views may be something to be concerned about, going to take another look at that when i head to the store in a little while. Shouldn't affect me too much since i'll be viewing mine straight on :)

the problem with the pioneer's were that they were handpicked panasonic's panels, so your comment is kind of pointless. The pioneer models also costed twice if not more for the same size as the panasonic.

I got my L32S1 today, and it's awesome! In game mode I cannot detect any input lag, and I'm very picky about that (dell 2209wa was unusable for me).

Text in windows is absolutely perfect with these settings:
HD size: Size 2
Sharpness: 0

Can you take some pictures? I tried my laptop on some lcd's at bestbuy and they were terrible...

How are red fonts (and reds in general) on your screen? On my 37" they are oversaturated just wondering if this is the case on 32" as well.

Low-end pioneers were made by panasonic with panny's technology to pioneer's specs. Pioneer Elite plasmas were made at Pio's own fab with their unique technologies. The companies shared very little technology between them, unfortunately.

I really want this TV, but only if I can see text like my westinghouse 37" 1080p

On my L37S1 text is great except for red text which is fuzzy. Text is comparable to the LG 32LH30 which also has pretty good text.

I think I tried a 32LH30 and could never get it to look right...

But I have a feeling it was my laptop's fault, it kept saying 1080i60 output not 60p... =/ was the 4500XHD whatever intel one which should do 1080p over hdmi.

So I'm just waiting for someone to post pics of them using it with HDMI and having clear text...

Some quick observations, gonna try to keep this as honest as possible and leave out all the fluff:

No dead or stuck pixels.

Thin red text fonts like this look about 80% good, whereas bold red fonts like this has more blur/smudge to it, still very legible though. i uninstalled some font program which made things a little better, and i still need to tweak things. About 95% of the fonts on the web look crisp, the other 5%, like certain bolded fonts have that aliased look, probably par for the course due to pixel size.

Reds are over-saturated, not enough to bother me, but i'm going to access the hidden service menu soon to see if i can correct it a little bit.

I may be wrong, but i think my overall lag with multiplayer games is better on this panasonic than on my 28" i-nc (Hanns-G rebrand). I went into a couple of games with guns smokin and got better scores than i have in a very long time. Like i said, I may be wrong but i think it's because of less lag, or it just seems that way. Maybe my eyes aren't quick enough but i'm not noticing any ghosting, will update later if i notice some.

Vertical viewing angles are not so good, but still noticeably better than TN panels, and horizontal viewing angles remain sharp, even from extreme angles. You aren't locked into a tiny viewing "sweetspot" as you are with TN panels. Best viewing distance is from 3ft and further imho, though 2 1/2 ft is do-able. I have a slight "flashlight effect" in the lower left corner of the screen, i reduced it's effect dramatically by lowering the backlight down to 30%, and placing the TV 3ft away helped this for some reason also. Supposedly the flashlight effect is caused by the panel's fastening screws being too tight, and that loosening them fixes it, but my workaround did the job well enough so i won't bother for now. Blacks are good, the best i've seen on a "monitor" (not a tv) in a long time, not inky black but close enough for me.

The settings need to be tweaked to get it just right, it'll look funny right out of the box. Took me a while to get rid of the underscan till i finally set the refresh rate @ 59hz, now everything is perfect 1:1 over hdmi.
i read about the 59hz refresh requirement a couple of times at AVS, not sure if everyone has to do this though, I'm using an ATI 4870 and sorta newer drivers.

It's hard for me to describe the overall quality when using this TV as a monitor. I'll admit it is not what i expected, larger pixels and all. But now that i've finally figured out most of the settings i can start to dissect and compare it to other real monitors (withholding my final comparison verdict for now).

Those of you that have experience with using TV's as monitors should have enough info to work with, my info and clues should help you a little bit. Those who are not familiar with using TV's as monitors, but are picture-quality perfectionists...well you guys may want to purchase this TV from a place that offers hassle-free returns, for no other reason than to "just be on the safe side".

I'll try to fill in with more details sometime soon, i've still yet to try this "Game mode" i've been reading about...

Edit: Here's a JPEG that shows what red fonts look like, the thin red font looks a little better in real life, i think it lost some quality in the bmp to jpeg conversion:

Fontexample2.jpg
<<jpeg<<

Edit #2: Setting the sharpness somewhere between 5 - 9 helps the red fonts a little bit, not sure if it adds any processing-related lag though.

Pictures :D

that's all I wanna see... my idea of crisp text and other people's might not be the same, but close pictures should make it clear, especially with a comparison to a standard LCD monitor.

Good point, thanks for bringing that up, crisp text is def a matter of opinion, heck even picture quality. Unfortunately i'm working till midnite tonight, and may not be able to fulfill requests for a while. Maybe someone can beat me to the punch and post some detailed pics with text examples.

Yea, i would buy it from bestbuy and test it out first hand (no restocking fee) but they don't have this model... they do have the LG and Sony that some people recommended... and I saw an Insignia that looked surprisingly good that I might try.

But pictures would make the decision easier...

All of them have PVA panel related lag, the insignia's having the most from what i read (been researching this crap for months), The LG S-IPS are fine though.

If you're not gonna game mulitplayer FPS then it shouldn't bother you one bit.

I would game, but again it's something I can test out...

I wanted the Panasonic because it was IPS and supposed to be great for games, but the text issue is still up in the air from what I hear... some say it's perfect, other people don't... which could be attributed to settings on their computer (which I can fiddle with)

I just need actual proof that text can look clear taking an input from a PC over HDMI...

Well I might head over to bestbuy to try out the Insignia tonight... it really did have the sharpest/best picture out of all the Tv's on the wall next to it (admittedly all Insignias) but still thought it looked good.. Someone mentioned it might have a Toshiba panel which also gets good reviews.

I put my Panasonic S1 next to a comparable Samsung and Sony and the Panasonic's picture quality was better. Viewing angles were better as well.

By the way, other B&M stores that carry the Panasonic are Sears, Kmart, Walmart, BJ's wholesale.

I don't think lag has much to do with panel type as it's caused by video processing. Blur maybe?
