Ikea desk gallery

After looking through this thread for the 100th time, I went to my local CL and did a search for Ikea desk and sure enough I found a Jerker that was put up for sale yesterday. I was happy to hear it's still available. I'm about to pick it up at 2PM this afternoon. I live in Hawaii so finding a Jerker is very rare.

Going from a straight desk to a corner desk (galant) will it feel like i have less rel-estate on the croner desk?

I went from a flat Jerker to a Galant with extensions on both ends. I've got a lot more room for a lot more stuff with my Galant. My 30" LCD is placed directly in the center of the corner area.

Same here, its weird, I went from just desks all along my walls, to this corner desk, and I still had room for my wifes desk behind me, and it seems to have opened the room up more, and looks much nicer now.

If you are unsure how it will look, draw it up real quick in google sketchup, sounds stupid, but i did a real quick top down view, with exact measurements (sketchup has a measurement tape tool), and got to see how much room I would have before buying it.

Heres my office setup. Its a crude drawing, but its just something quick and dirty i made up to see how much exact space i would have:

well im thinking about only getting 1 rounded extension and adding it to the long side. I am also concerned about my monitor arms how that would work out on that desk.

In that case I think the desk space would be about the same. A nice bonus of the Galant is that you can add pieces as your needs evolve. As for using monitor arms, I had my previous 24" LCD mounted on an arm that was attached to my Galant. No problems at all.

This may sound a bit crazy...but has anyone ever cut a Galant table top?

I located all of the ikea part numbers, so I can order a Galant Corner table top with a smaller Galant frame and t-legs. I need to cut at 5 inches from the table top in order to function in my office. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Mr. Wolf, love the Energy speakers. Those would be the C-100s?
Here is my Galant, and a pic of my Energy fronts.

Many upgrades since the pictures were taken. (Wireless printer, decorations, laptop moved to desk...) Maybe I will try to update the picture at the end of the month. The computer on the desk doesn't work yet. =(

Cutting the wood shouldn't be difficult if you've got the right saw. The metal under frame might cause some problems, though.

Your pics right there just made me confirm my decision, i know what im doing this sunday. That is sort of the setup im going to be having it like. Also when I want to add an extra piece am i going to have to flip the whole desk over start unscrewing stuff to add a new piece later in time? and that is only with one extension on the long end right?

Yup that looks like just one extension (half circle) on his setup. and yes, to upgrade later on, you would have to flip the desk over, and you can add stuff without unscrewing, the only time you would have to unscrew the frame is to remove/move legs around.

Improved a bit. The setup uses two Ikea Jerker desks - combined. I just swing between them depending on what I'm working on. The setup was gradually built up over a year and a half. I spend time editing my pics[D40/18-55/50/55-200] / playing TF2 or working on an embedded project.[Notes]

For your desk i see that extension you have on the long side you dont have the foot underneath it, they people gave me the wrong bar for mine and i went ahead and put the desk together anyway. What i was planning on doing was keeping the foot in the spot it is now and just adding the bracket tomorrow when i go exchange it for the right one.. is that what you did?

yes, you can tell because of the gray bezel instead of the black on the 3007.

Thats very nice, the desk makes it look bigger than a 30" and the bezel looks like its brushed aluminum, although I'm sure its just grey plastic.

Temporary as I just got it:

Got my Fredrik yesterday. Was about to walk out with a glass Galant but ultimately decided against it because it was $210 (the biggest non-corner one) vs. $100 and it wouldn't have fit in the car. Also got a Signum cable rack but was too lazy to install it and realized that I didn't need it so I'd probably take it back someday.

Few things about the desk that I DIDN'T like (no point in pointing out the pros since you all know :)):
- They didn't have a color darker than birch but lighter than dark-brown (beech like the galants) which I wanted.
- Table wobbles A TAD since the front of the desk does not have legs supporting it.
- Surface not as smooth as I would like for my G5 without mousepad.

Other than that, I'd say it's a pretty awesome desk.

Mr. Wolf, I notice you have a Marantz 8001. How do you like the receiver? I am currently thinking of getting something like the 4003, 5002 or the 6001. The 6001 is the most powerful and I think the 4003 is the newest but the 5002 seems to be a good balance. Do you find you need the power that the 8001 provides to drive the Energy speakers? Also, do you feel the x001 series to be lacking in features that the x002 and x003 series may have? TIA for any info you can provide.

Anyone ever tried to bring a galant corner desk home in a 2001-2002 a4/s4? Plenty of em for sale on craigslist, but all several hours away. Would hate to get down there and not be able to get it home.

Hi - I love my 8001. I had a 7001 but it died within the first 3 weeks so Accessories4Less replaced it with the 8001. Aside from HDMI 1.3a There's not a lot of difference between the 001, 002, 003 series. My DVD player has 1.3a so it's not a feature needed in my receiver.

you will NOT be able to pack it in that car. I have an 09 Murano and it barely made it length wise.

That's what I was worried about. It's about a 3 hour drive to either ikea or where they are located on craigslist, so borrowing is tough. My back seats both fold down though...worth measuring I guess.

I bought 2 vika amon 59"x29" tables to make an L-shaped desk. Pictures later, maybe.

I was pissed though, when one of the legs wasnt threaded. I had to go out to a couple hardware stores to find a tap for it to do that myself, but I really shouldn't have to do that. (Note, it was more effective to fix it than replace it seeing as Ikea is 90 minutes away, and hardware stores ranging from 2-15 minutes away)

Get a simpson bracket/strap/tie plate or similar for the joint. ;) I believe the one I got was 1/8th thick, 2.5" wide, and sawed off to match the length of the tabletop. Used #10 3/4" self tapping screws. If you found something better, please let me know! :D

Unfortunately, the metal frame is not adjustable on the corner desktop. I just wanted to confirm this for you. I considered a similar setup with the left and right corner desks, but I ended up going with a left-corner with 2 extensions and a half-round section in black-brown. It's a wonderful setup! I highly recommend it.

I would greatly appreciate if anyone could tell me how long this piece of the corner desk frame is?

I need to know as I hope to do some modifications to the desktop and use a different size galant frame.

Thanks in advance.
