BTW after speaking with the geeks.com staff, there are 3 levels of refurb. And a forth that is basically re-built from destruction.... This is the highest of the 3 levels. Meaning that the damage was either non-detectable, returned because it was not wanted, or had something along the lines of a button or screw that poped off or came lose. This also means they went through all tests and had no errors! So the lady there said these are basically as good as it gets for refurbs... which made me feel much better!:D
That's very relevant. Thanks for that info.

Now if someone wants to bury the high cost of shipping into the price, and pretend to themselves that this monitor costs around $440 shipped, you'll be getting the highest quality refurb possible.

As mentioned prior, taking into account the high weight of the item (62lbs) and the cost of delivery, this is almost assuredly a "white glove" delivery service that schedules deliveries and bring the item right into your home. Heck the guys would even wear cloth "booties" to protect your clean floors if you request it (upon sceduling warn them if you have light colored carpets in your home)

Well... I have family in the so-cal area. Am thinking of making a trip around new years ; ) In all seriousness is anyone interested in the nor-cal/central or slightly so cal area interested in a group buy? I dont mind picking it up for the [H]ard community members if they will throw in a few bucks for gas. You would have to meet me somewhere close to a major freeway or something...

I spoke with them, and they DO group buys! Which might be a real perk here as I can negotiate DOWN on price, or even see about billing from out of state to avoid tax if that works...

For serious people reply to the thread... I have always wanted one of these monitors....

Hope there are some who are interested like me, without the 90-120 shipping fees

Let me know soon while the still have several!

How are u able to get it w/o tax and recycling? I live in Socal about 80 miles away from ocean side still cheaper then getting it shipped let me know when u go maybe we can go together or work something out. i would so be on top of this if i didnt have to pay tax or recycling fee.

And this is one hell of a monitor even at that price. These were selling out constantly last year when Buy.com had them for $600 shipped...those weren't refurbs, but $440 for a 37" monitor with tons of inputs and a very good panel? Shipping costs be damned, this is a crazy good deal when people are paying more than that for 24" displays!

I agree, even with the $100 shipping, getting a 37" display like this for $440ish is a very good deal.

Check my post... Looks like we can get them for 329! Without shipping for those of you in cali who want to get in on it with me. After talking with some people, I can buy them through a relative, and a business they own legit for resale, or just through their out of state, and pick it up. No sales tax, no "ca-recycling fee" so a true 329!

At that price, I will probably get two myself, Anyone in cali who wants in on this... I been on hard for 5 years (2 or more also before I changed names) I am happy to help some others out! Just let me know if you are between there and Nor-cal. If you can meet me near a central freeway, I can work it out...

I am going to go soon, so let me know asap!

(going that way for new years or around then as the misses wants to visit family and friends!)

lol, 400 shipped to Alaska, but i expected that.

Bought mine 1300 shipped to alaska a year and some ago, best monitor ive ever owned.

I'm seriously considering purchasing this... might do so tomorrow, as I'm on a really tight budget and have been wanting a 37" 1080p lcd for a few years now for my computer and always liked the westinghouse options but never had the money for it..

Only thing that concerns me is....
Below are the acceptable amounts of "dot defects" for LCD displays that we sell:

# Total Defects: 8
# Bright or Dark Dots (random): 4
# Bright or Dark Dots (2 adjacent): 2
# Bright or Dark Dots (3 adjacent): 0
# Minimum distance between defects: 15 mm (bright to bright dots)
# Minimum distance between defects: 5 mm (dark to dark dots)
With my luck, I'll have exactly 8 dead/white pixels and i'll be pissed and screwed...

What is everyone's thoughts about Geeks and refurb LCDs?
I can't find a new one anywhere on the damn internet... otherwise i'd spend an extra ~$75 or so for one from somewhere else...

Glad to see so many people want it. They had 26 the other day, down to 21, have not checked today. I need to get a list of SERIOUS people together.

I will go ahead and set up the order. I need to know where you can meet me off a major freeway. I need to see how many, to pick the size rental I should get.

I wanna buy them soon, since they are going and she said she wont get more for sure!

I will probably get 2-3 myself ; ) Please post how many you want, and if you are ready to pay. I will figure out how to do this....

One small thing, it would be nice if yall could pitch some in for gas/rental! lol I don't know what yall think would be fair, but something to give a hand.

-More updates as I get them. Please leave a way to contact you as well.

Sounds like alphaqforever247 might be able to help me load em up in So-Cal.

My car would only hold 3 or so of em. So I will probably rent a truck or van with unlimited miles! I know there are a few places that offer that. Anyone know of a good unlimited miles car rental company?

Can people help pitch in some for gas and rental? I already have about 6 people who want in on it. So I will definately need a truck/van or bigger...

Should I start a new thread? And please let me know ASAP, we are thinking of going down newyears.

-Keep in mind, this will keep you from paying tax, CA-recycling fee, or ANY shipping... So a true 329... which is rediculous for this monitor...

I love hard hehehe.... this is becomming a fun little road trip. Anyone wanna stop for lunch or something along the way? Could be fun. Cannot drink though sadly as about 10 westys will have their lives in my hands :D lol

So far I have...

2-3 for me
3 for alphaqforever247
1? For chinspecial
1? For Zerodex *****Zero is local to me so make its nice n easy! Anyone else in the south bay want one?

Allot of others have asked... I just called, and two more gone.

Do yall think I should make a thread for this?

All kidding aside. I am on my 2nd Westinghouse 37" and I think I paid around $900 dollars for it.

I love this monitor. The first one I had even before World of Warcraft launched, so a long time and that served me well. It stopped working under warranty and they shipped me a new one out.

I bit. Shipping and all.

In the email, it mentioned a shipping rebate. Which guided me to freeshipping.com. It looks like your standard try this service "free" for 30 days, but give us your card info because we will charge it automatically if you don't cancel. I've done them before at Buy.com. Of course when you call they nag the shit out of you to stay. I swore never again, but $111 back, that'd be sweet. Anyone know anymore about this?

I have a question for those of you that already have this monitor. Would someone mind giving me the distance between the base and the bottom of the LCD as marked in the picture? I've got a desk I need to modify before mine arrives, and this info would be helpful. Thanks in advance!

Approx. 2 1/4". Just a teeny bit more -- probably closer to 2 1/3".

I got excited about free shipping thing... but its a bust... total scam, check a quick google search and you will see... Seems the LA trip is still on!

Thanks for the quick response! I appreciate it.

No problem. Keep in mind I measured the area indicated in your picture (desk to bottom of bezel), not the top of the base to the bottom of the bezel. Your post said "distance between the base and the bottom of the LCD" so if you need me to measure from the top of the stand to the bottom of the monitor I can do that too; just let me know.

$91 for shipping, but I think I gotta pull the trigger. I originally had a 37" LVM-37W3 from Sam's Club a few years back. Excellent monitor - after about a year, I was offered a 40" Samsung 1080P 120hz and didn't do my homework (it had 5 years on warranty). Sold the Westy for $400 and have regretted it ever since. I've come across store display models for $450. The Sammy is a superb TV, but sucks as a monitor if you use anything but VGA (DVI = crisp text, muted colors. VGA is opposite).

$420 out the door. I gotta bring my baby home (Squaretrade warranty is $45, I'm doing the Amex)!

In for 1!

*edit*

Btw, it says FedEx Ground. My guess that is the reason for the high prices. Freight companies are usually cheaper than that. I've had car parts shipped across country for less in freight charges. FedEx+UPS+Large-Heavy-Item = no win.

I just pm'd you DarkTao. Sorry, first time logging in today. It might be a good idea to start a new thread on this perhaps in hot deals discussion? I just don't want to get too off topic. Then again is it off topic?

Oh well, bottom line is, I'm still interested in one.

damn I want to bite on this.. but I just can't get more gear until we move. Grats to everyone getting one though. killer deal. :)

In for one!!!!! =D

I'm trying to pretend the shipping really isn't $101... it's just an Awesome-LCD-Tax....

I may have worded it poorly, but you gave me exactly what I wanted. Thanks again.

This is a monitor only so you would need either a cable/sat box or tv tuner in your computer.

this is what i dont understand cable box is that also the box with the dvr? cause arnt most tvs connected to a box? im guessing i cant jus get a coax cable and connect it to the monitor and then straight to the coax on the wall?

You are correct, you cannot connect a coaxial cable directly from wall to LCD... this LCD does not have the internal components to receive the signal.
A cable box is required, most companies like Comcast and Satelite companies have boxes that you connect the coaxial to... they decode the information, and then output it via hdmi, component video, etc.
If that's what you have/use then you are golden.

Interesting idea for those of you who the shipping kills the deal for.

If you do a search of "LVM-37w3" on amazon, you can buy it from geeks.com through amazon at $389 but with a far lower shipping charge, you might even be able to apply normal geeks.com coupons on the purchase too because it might not count as a sale price.

SOLD OUT!

I am so ridiculously stoked for mine to come on Wednesday :D

I took a photo of my current desk setup and did some photochoppin' to see what it will look like if I put my two LCD's (20" + 22", both widescreen) next to the Westy...

Top picture is my setup currently

How far are you guys sitting away when using it as a main PC monitor? I've had this unit since it came out and it was just way too big when on a desk. I then started to use it as my main TV for the past 3 yrs until a few days ago when I got a 55" LCD TV. Now I have the 37" westy on the floor doing nothing.

Would love to see more setup for ideas otherwise I need to get rid of this I guess.

My eyes are about 3.5ft away and I think it is perfect.

I sit about 2.5 to 3 feet away.. the dot pitch is big for being close to the monitor, but you get used to it.. I don't even notice it any more.

Anyone else have theirs yet? FedEx dropped mine off just as I was leaving for work this morning. It's hard sitting here with an unopened box at home. Today is going to be a long day...
