Google Goggles in Action

neat demo I suppose but nothing I would call useful. I'm going to take time to photograph something I could google from the main screen in half (or because I have buttons probably 1/4 ) the time? unlikely. Maybe if picture taking with a cell were much faster/easier.
 
I have a Droid and played around with Google Goggles. Its half way decent, it works on some stuff and doesnt work on other stuff.
 
This is just a barcode scanner and a picture scanner.

The barcode part is already done by other companies. It is useful if you take a pic of the barcode to find the matching price at amazon.
 
Yes, it's cool, but after trying it myself I can't think of a situation where I'd use it. The barcode scanner, yes, but picture scanner, no. I think it has potential though and I'm glad to see Google continue to innovate.
 
This has got a ton of potential if they were to ever advance it to the point where you could use it for everyday life.
 
I could see how this is useful for is artificial intelligence powered systems.

my friend took a picture of his pbr can which turned into a google search of pbr
 
Dang, hit reply without finishing my post.

I have a Droid and this app just isn't practical yet. The whole process is too slow and cumbersome. The app has to open, then the camera has to open, then the picture has to be taken, then the picture has to be processed, then the picture has to be searched, then you have to do it all over again 50% of the time because it's inaccurate. I don't even know why I'm complaining about a free app that I've used and since uninstalled. LOL
 
These phones have got to get faster. When someone calling me hears my phone ring 4 times before my tough pro loads up (phone mode) to let me know there is a problem,
 
Works pretty good for easily recognizable products and places.

Also works really good with business cards. It will give you the option to import all info from a business card into the correct fields in your contacts. I've done several business cards and it's 85 - 100% accurate depending on how fancy the card is.
 
Okey.

Now i want toblerone, i think ill head over to the shop tomorrow and buy some.

Ads dont work on me, but tech showoff with chocolate does :confused:
 
this reminds me of that bar code scanner radio shack had back around 2000/2001...was useless then, will continue to be useless now

No, unless you really get into scanning the contents of your refigerator.

Really? I'm supposed to be excited about this? I hear some states are doing barcodes on
driver's licenses. Wouldn't it be wonderful to scan that and see just how much info comes up.

I use Barcode Scanner myself. has more wow factor for the non-techies.

Why not just put the toblerone inside a juicy taco that is brewed in a curry while you are at it.

If I ever need to clear the pipes all I need to do is have some Toblerone and bang. It sure tastes good but I wonder why it has that effect.

Lactose intolerance would do it (although that hasn't kept me away from Toblerone). Otherwise, check the ingredient list. You might be sensitive to something.

I feel the same way. While I can see plenty of other clever uses of such technology, simply googling something isn't one of em.
 
Ah, it's an OCR program that automatically spawns a google of the found text. Wow, this changes everything.

...wtf?
 
the iphone equivalent is cool too but the novelty only lasts for two or three products, or until u scan something that doesn't work.
 
Now I'm curious about Toblerones.....might have to run to the store after work and take the liquid poo challenge!
