New DFI Mini-ITX MI P55-T36

I see, I thought all of them did +5

Great insight as always, thanks

1) The 750 not only has a lower multi, it also has a lower speed bump when less than 4 cores are active, which might limit OC, if you don't plan to shut that feature off.

I have to disagree with that statement. Let's say for example you had OC'd your 750 and 860 to a BCLK of 160 at stock voltage. With it's lower Turbo multi, the 750 will push to 160*24 on single-threaded apps whereas the 860 will push to 160*26. The difference between the 2 might be enough to fail your OC on the 860. I'm obviously saying MIGHT, because it might not happen, or it might happen at different BCLK. Obviously the higher the BCLK, the higher the frequency difference between the 2 on single-threaded apps.

Most tests push the BCLK with the Turbo off, because obviously Turbo skews results. Personally I'd be happy with a BCLK of 160 with Turbo on. That would be (for a 750) a base speed of 3.2 GHz and a single-threaded push to 3.84. No too bad for a mini-ITX, I'd say. On top of that, you get to use 1600MHz memory using a multiplier of 10.

I know where you come from. The extra Turbo jumps on the 860 can actually result in a hit in OC. However, and that's where I was going to, if the chip can handle it, the extra bump will push it over the 750.

Also, even if the chip can't handle it, I think it's likely it will be able to work properly with only a slightly decreased BCLK, which would probably still net a result higher than the 750. Hopefully.

Most tests push the BCLK with the Turbo off, because obviously Turbo skews results.
Yeah, Turbo is a headache to OCers. I still remember the first time it appeared (back then using the acronym "IDA"), with the T7xxx series mobile CPUs. I haven't seen it work in the two years I have my laptop... I might try Windows 7 someday, to see if that makes it work...

That's not bad in ANY form factor. If it's stable for daily use, it's great! I'm building an 860-based uATX rig (first on-die memory controller CPU EVER for me...), let's see if I can get there...

Cheers.

When do we se 32nm cpus for this mobo?

Well Intel are officially announcing them on Jan 7. But they are Dual Core with HT and GPU integrated. There aren't any 32nm-equivalent of the Lynnfield CPUs planned. Which is a shame...

Any ideas on what a good heatsink would be for this mobo in an SG05? I'm guessing that my GeminII won't work

I think maybe the 1156 bracket for the GeminII S may work with the GeminII, otherwise maybe an AXP-140 with an slim 12cm fan, let me know what works for you :D

Good call! I really like the GeminII so I'll try out that bracket and see if it works. I presume you're talking about this guy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103076

It doesn't say that the GeminII is supported but I know all Cooler Master mounts are pretty much the same and it's cheap enough that I'm willing to try. It'll probably be a month before I have it all set up and tested though.

Yes that one is what i'm thinking. Otherwise Corsair H50 is the best bet IMHO

FYI

I just installed H50 to run test(I couldn't cause I'm too tired after shoveling all that snow) and you have to mod plastic backplate and bend cap alittle. You have to cut top 2 holes of backplate because of things on back side of motherboard. Top side, I had to bend one of cap a little so that top ring can be mounted. You might be lucky enough to not bend a cap(it's really little that i had to bend) but defintely cut out some of backplate.

FYI, I installed all of components
MSI 4760
DFI MI P55
Hitachi Deskstar 1tb
OCZ 1600 4gb memory
core I5 750
Silverstone SG06

My temperature on the CPU was running at 34 - 36 degerees with the stock heatsink and without overclockding.

He is correct, I got the H50 and the bracket did not fit even. Was at an angle and the foam backing has to be carefully placed or it covers the voltage chips on the backside. Also the holes do -not- line up with advertised markings on the rear bracket! Mine is a mix of the 775 and 1156 holes and it mounted without much more issue.

GOt this going on:
Sugo SG05
DFI MITX P55
i5 750
4gb DDR3 OCZ DDR-1600 Low Voltage Edition
GTX 280
External 500 watt PSU (Waiting for that dang 450 Silverstone!).

I didn't put foam tape on mine as i was afraid that it might overheat things that were covering it. Also, mine fit just fine with 1156. I didn't have to mix it. Try 1156 again, they intentionally made it so that backplate sits tilted.

I like where you're going with this, but I'm curious about what's the biggest possible video card in there. Are you gonna hook us up with some pics?

damn. that's kinda sad.
i guess i can't wait 'til there is free shipping from newegg.com lol
guess i'll just grab one. usb3.0 isn't due 'til 2011 anyways.

You missed out on some deals at eWiz/SuperBiiz. They originally had this board for $135 with free shipping, and then $145 with free shipping and a $10 off coupon code  which expired yesterday. Right now it is $145 with free shipping, but since they do Bing cashback (usually at 5%) you can get it for around $138 shipped after Bing cashback, making it $2 cheaper than Newegg and free shipping to boot.

I got in on one of the earlier deals, will end up around $128 shipped for me after cashback. Just waiting for it to arrive. :D

Don't even have a case to put it in. Will be building my own.

Zap...

Yeah mine came out to $128.25 shipped...must have ordered about the same time. Ordered last Thursday or Friday, it shipped today.

Those eWiz coupons are usually replaced when one expires though. They pop up in the banner on the first page.

I'm still going to do a cardboard box build until I see a suitable case...or build my own as well.

+1 on seeing some build pic's. Let see some of those builds...

GTX 280GTX285 will fit. I'll put up a front shot, was not in focus.

Here is the top, minus the drive bay and the PSU.

Note, I'll be using a raptor 300 bare drive where the DVD drive is to go then in the future, when / if Silverstone gets out that 450 watt, I'll put it in there.

Cooling fans are from front to back: Sycth Sflex-E 120mm then the Corsair H50 fan. Keeps it @ 36C @ 3.0ghz and ambient of around 83F.

BTW, my dremel hack looks pretty nice from the front!

biggest possible videocard in the sg05 is the 5850. but thats for 775 dont know about the DFI board it might use more of the much needed 12V han the zotac board does. but we are all waiting for the 450W psu :D

Seems hard to believe they would develop more motherboards when they are getting out of the business. Nevertheless, if the rumors are true we should still see more mini-itx at CES 2010. Maybe not as much as we would like though...and AM3...who knows!

I'm much less interested in power requirement as I am about physical restrictions. I'm curious if (with or without a little modding) a 5870 could be squeezed in there, since it's power connectors are oriented to the top instead of the end of the card. Been considering upgrading (or downgrading as it were) from my matx i7 system to something smaller for traveling to lan parties, but supporting at least a 5870 is a concern.

A DFI staff said the rumor is false.
"DFI's official repsonse to the rumor that we will be exiting the consumer motherboard business is that such a rumor is simply incorrect. There are no plans to abandon the successful Lan Party series of motherboards."

You could put a 5870 in a SG06 as it has another whole cm of depth due to extended alu. bezel. 5870 is 28cm long and the gtx280 is 27cm. Or about .39 inch difference.

The Sugo SG05 with it's close plastic bezel will take a 280 but no 5870. SG06 SHOULD be able to take the 5870 with a little work:
The first thing that you will notice about this case is its tiny size, only 8 21/32” x 7” x 11 ¼” (22 cm x 17.7 cm x 28.6 cm) (W x H x D). SG06 is 3/8” (1 cm) longer than SG05 because of the thicker front panel. All other dimensions are the same.

Unfortunately shipping to Canada cost $50. =(
Might as well buy from newegg.ca.
Maybe gooddeal on boxingday =)

Your second quote says that the front panel is physically thicker, not shifted forward. The innards should still be identical, so if it doesn't fit the SG05, the SG06 is equally disqualified.

But that's still usefull information, cause in theory you could probalby cut away the "inner face" because of the extended length the sg06's face offers.

think the sapphire toxic is a little shorter than the stock card since the cooler doesnt add an extra cm.

The sg05 should allso add an extra cm, since u have to cut the case as shown in pics.

Yeah, I ordered Friday, just after midnight probably. It shipped that afternoon. I should have it by Tomorrow if the delivery guy can get past the snow.

If I can get my case built, I will be sure to post pics. I've got ideas and I've already purchased materials/tools that I didn't already have. Now I just need time. :(

Yeah the hollow space from the case bulkhead to the external front of the panel is more. I do not have a SG06 to test with though.

Thanks for the input. Started ordering my pieces and had assumed the stock psu was good enough. I wasn't going for a super hi-end graphics card. Guess we'll find out =)

Planned build:

i7 860
DFI Mini-ITX MI P55-T36
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1 TB Drive
OCZ Platinum DDR3 1333
SG05 with stock PSU
SOD01 DVD RW Drive
HD 5770

I got this build up and running fine so far after a day. Only prob I had was my DVD was DOA so I need to return it. Used an external to load everything so far. The only other thing I might do in the near future is pull out to stock fan and get a better one (any reccomendations?) Running CoD:MW2 pretty nicely =)

I am very happy so far. I have not done anything special at this point. No overclocking or anything. I think I'll keep that for the future. Future upgrades would obviously be a new vid card and the new PSU, but my wallet needs to recover a bit before that happens. Thanks to the forum here for info about the case and other things. The pointers I read were very helpful in choosing my build.

Does the stock cooler fit well with some space left? What cables did you need besides what comes with the mobo?

There is alot of room above the stock intel cooler that came with my cpu. The motherboard came with everything I needed as far as cableing, however I did buy some smaller sata cables (both smaller in length and the actual size of the connector). My vid card was having a hard time fitting since it was brushing up against the sata connector to my harddrive. I found some cables at frys that had smaller connectors. A right angle connector (one end right angle other end normal) would probably also work. The only other thing I have heard people needing to buy is a slimline sata cable for the optical drive. Alot of the OEM drives that you by do not come with them from what other people have told me.

Thanks for the info. I dont need the optical drive for now (will be installing linux using USB drive).

I am putting core i5 / 9800 GT inside the SG05. This should be one sweet setup.

Does anyone have issues with USB wifi adapters on this board? I just got this board yesterday, put everything together and couldnt get any USB wifi adapters to work (win7). Both of my adapters work on another win7 box. I did a quick google, and found other people with the same issue, they all had the i5 750 like myself.

Enzotech MOS-C1 would be perfect. Matter in fact, I have them from other build and that's what I'll be using on mine. Ones for back of motherboard, you would have to mod them and maybe dremel to get them fit which I'm thinking about doing with SG06 cut on bottom with vent to cool them. I just tested mine tonight and it's running lowest of 16c with speedstep on with my 750. Room temp was around 75F. Now I need to take everything apart and continue cutting case. Now I just need to update my project with couple of new pictures. :) Follow this for my SG06, MI P55-T36, i5 750 build http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1469728

The VRM gets pretty hot. Anybody find any possible heatsink for them?
