ARMA 2 Patch 1.05 Released, Brings Bonus Campaign

The game has been pretty good since 1.04. It is not flawless, mind you, but is still very playable. There are some mods that help it even more.

Does it still take seemingly 3 steps instead of 1 to pick up a pack of ammo, for example? It sure felt that way in the demo.

I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes. Had been using the beta patches for the 8gb memory problem with 64 bit windows 7.

I bought Arma 2 off Steam and played for three hours before just giving up.

For the life of me I couldn't' figure out how to get my squad-mates to perform fairly simple tasks, such as standing behind cover when being shot at - a completely frustrating experience. Then I arrived in the first big city and my frame-rate, on a Corei7/GTX 275 setup just tanked... it was almost unplayable... and I said, that's it, I'm out of here... not worth the frustration.

Two nights later I bought Operation Flashpoint 2, which I find to be extremely difficult, but a lot more fun, since you can actually tell your squadmates what to do with a press of a button, and they'll actually do it!

Operation Flashpoint 2 is like a refined version of ARMA's engine in terms of playability. I found ARMA 2 to be clunky and heavy but I think if the patches continue to fix it up and it rolls out decently in the next year or so it'll be really rewarding.

I picked up Flashpoint 2 two days ago and Im really enjoying it. ARMA 2 ran horrible on my old machine and the only way to get it playable was to crank the visuals down so low it was almost not worth playing.

Flashpoint 2 runs excellent on my outdated machine and looks great. It may lack the size and features of ARMA, but it looks good and is extremely enjoyable. The biggest drawback to flashpoint 2 is the editor.

The patch does improve performance. Also Arma has always been better played with a team of humans with teamspeak.

Understand that Arma 2 is more of a Milsim than a FPS. So those aspects alone will probably sway a lot of people. However once you find a good clan to join then everything becomes more enjoyable.

I was surprised at how enjoyable Operation Flashpoint 2 was - in my opinion, there's a certain type of person out there who wanted a hardcore military sim, and because OF2 was somewhat gamey (it's still more difficult that than the PC version of GRAW), this type of person decided he was going to be fairly vocal in his hatred of the game.

Operation Flashpoint 2 is a good looking and fun to play game - as long as you're not expecting Call Of Duty. It's stable, and it runs well. I paid full price for it and have no regrets whatsoever.

And by the way, Operation Flashpoint is now selling at Steam for $20 as a part of their big Winter/Christmas sale.

Worth it at $20 - easily.

EDIT: (holy crap - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. for $2)

does this patch fix the texture flickering and objects appearing out of know where when you zoom in?

ARMA2 is garbage. I bought it mainly for the graphics appeal, though as a moderate simulation player I thought it might be alright (didn't play the first). For something such as human interactivity and combat, it kind of needs to be as fluid as possible. It goes the exact opposite direction.

As I've said before; over designed and underdeveloped. I don't think patches will ever help.

Most of ARMA 2's problems just weren't necessary - if a person who has been playing computer games for more than 20 years can't understand how to open a box of ammunition, and take out the ammunition, then something is seriously wrong.

With the game, I mean.

So much bashing.. I bought Arma2 back in Oct when Steam had it on sale and have almost 160hrs invested into the mp side of it. The SP side is garbage, no denying that and yes there are still some bugs but with the release of ACE2 it’s a new game. It is not a run and gun no brain shooter, you have to put thought into how you are going to execute a mission and what gear you are going to carry.

There is nothing like being on a server with 50+ other ppl and having the correct chain of command being used. Command officer-Squad leader-Fireteam leader-grunts-etc. It’s all about finding the right servers and ppl. If you want to just grab a gun and start shooting then this is not the game for you, but if you enjoy the tactical side of things then yeah, give it another shot with the right ppl.

Here is a PCgamer article about how this game is meant to be played. These are the ppl I game with on an almost nightly basis. Almost every mission is run this way….almost. ;)

Nicely put.
ARMA 2 is not your fucking CoD, OK people?

Anyway did they fixed GIANT fire glitch? Very annoying it also disables all of the enemies on your radar...Arma is truly spectacular on a 50+ man server at night. Freeking explosions and rocket salvos from gunships, umm..... explosions :p

Fixed.

So is this game worth picking up for my Brothers and I ? We are missing the good ol Joint Op's style game.

I would recommend trying the demo to see if you like the style. It is definitely not a run and gun game.

I know, I thought and hoped it is more like Raven Shield 1, just set in huge outdoor world, and has vehicles, but all controlled in a Rainbow 6 sort of feel ?

Eh? OFP2 runs a completely different game engine. It uses the same engine as GRID and DiRT 2, actually.

I have been holding off on ARMA2. Primarily because I play singleplayer, coupling that with the fact it seems to be a demanding game and its probably buggy means I will wait.

I liked OFP2 a lot. I just wish I had control over my kit.

I dont know about buggy, as I have not played it in a while, but it is the most unpolished game I have ever played.

I guessed on the buggy part based on my experiences with ARMA1, although unpolished is a better word
