tf2 update will have crafting. lol

Finally a use for the stack of sandviches I have in my inventory other than throwing a virtual dinner party.

i havent played tf2 in a while and i cant figure out why. this will only contribute to my lack of playtime.

its AWESOME how often (and free) valve update this game, but its lost something (imo) that it had in the "beta". I played the absolute crap out of this game up until about the scout update and then its just slowly lost something

I love tf2 :D

There is nothing to complain about here, it just makes an easier way to gain weapons you may be missing in your inventory.

I feel that Valve takes all the whines posted on their forums and makes and giant mockery of it in game :D

You don't HAVE to use this feature, I've played the game almost identical to how I played it when I started 2 years ago (just better). And still have a blast...

I still hate spies and snipers though, they feel like such annoying pansy classes... one cloaks and hides in corners until you're not looking then insta-gibs you, the other is across the map and insta-gibs you. They don't fit in with any of the other classes, they're just there to satisfy the same people who use AWP in Cstrike just because it was instagib.

In all fairness same thing could be said about demoman and sticky bombs, soldiers and crit rockets.....etc etc.

Spy is a really hard class to play unless your team is especially stupid. Sniper isn't exactly easy to play either, you don't see them having top kills a lot (I've seen it, but it seemed fishy)...and they die easy enough. And as for them fitting, they fit just fine. Soldier can unroost/distract snipers, pyro can torch em with the flare gun, spy can sneak up on em, other snipers can snipe em. Pyro takes care of spies, and pretty much anyone whose observant can deal with spies cept maybe the sniper depending on their choice of weapons.

If you could watch a game without snipers and spies, you'd see a totally different experience is my guess. Lots more demoman traps since they won't be getting backstabbed while they wait around the corner. Lots more long distance soldiers, sitting back and just popping off rockets never coming out. Engineers where the only way to unroost em is to uber up and demoman spam their guns, because they don't have to worry about people sneaking up on em. Heavies standing out in the big open field with a medic behind him going full-bore dodging a rocket or two and the random grenade. Sniper/spy serve a purpose, and I don't really like playing either of them overall. But I recognize their worth.

I've stopped playing too, the game is getting bloated. The game netcode makes the game stuttery, with each update the game is getting slower.

I may go back to the game when the Soldier update comes out as it's my favourite class.

Dunno what to say about TF2, it gets more mainstream and less competative with every update.

They still have not addressed the biggest problem for pub play and thats the seriously overpowered sentries, the average player cannot take down one on their own, nor does the average pub team have the skills to prep ubers for pushing past sentry choke points.

Most matches in random pub play boil down constant problems with sentry guns which mean fighting occurs in the same few deathtrap choke points where 2-3 sentries can tear through a player in less than a second.

Until they fix the balance with the sentries the game wont remain fun for me, pub play will just be the same enfuriating grind against the same set of sentries over as everyone struggles to take them down. They should just call it sentry fortress 2 tbh.

Honestly I'd rather have it like that. I like fighting people head-on. I don't like having them hide somewhere where I can't hit them, or cloak until I run past them, de-cloak, backstab and cloak again... It's really just fucking annoying getting sniped and backstabbed. I'd rather get blown up or shot at to death by a guy I can see.

Every other class serves a direct purpose. Scout is speed/flag runner, Soldier is standard grunt, Pyro is specialty grunt (airblast is useful in many ways) and, Demo is area of denial / grunt, Medic is... well a medic... Heavy is extended/consistent fire, and engineer is support/defense. They all have specific roles that fit into the game, not many other classes can replace their roles, or fill their shoes. But the sniper/spy don't fit at all. There is no other class that can't do their jobs as effectively. Demo's will always be an effective counter for sentries, especially with ubers, pyro's too if they don't have enemies with airblast. soldiers/demo's/pyros all counter eachother depending on the situation. But when you have a single player on the team dedicated to countering spies, that seems somewhat ridiculous (pyro near sentrys on CP maps).

Both classes just seem like they're for pansies. A lot of gamers like that style though, so it makes sense for Valve to appeal to them. If they excluded the sniper class a lot of people would be bitch and not play. Spy class people would also be bitchy, although it was pretty useless in TFC. They're still both pretty pointless classes in the sense of teamplay. Now there are some spies who are awesome with teamwork, they time their saps with ubers so they're more effective, and then there are solo spies who just go to find loners to backstab. Same applies to pyro's soldiers, demos. Some are great team-players and work together as a team, but Spy / Sniper encourage solo play more than team-play.

Seriously it's a pain in the ass to constantly spin around to check for spies. It is non-stop. I don't do anything for more than 2 seconds without spinning to check for spies unless I'm next to a sentry / a lot of teammates. I have played as both spy and sniper but it just feels lame.

And Princess, you can take out a lvl3 unattended sentry as a scout, and one that is defended as a demo/soldier quite easily... the main point is to kill the engy / dispenser. They're going to be focused on hitting their sentry that they'll let the dispenser die pretty quickly. That and splash damage hitting a wall behind them will kill them faster than the dispenser can heal them. I only play pubs and kill sentrys solo all the time. Easier to fire off 2-3 stickies and kill them / dispenser, and then 2-3 more and get the sentry vs. trying to get it all in one shot, because most likely they'll shoot the stickies / it won't do enough damage / you'll get killed before you can get them off.

My issue is the other team rebuilding once I die, and my team not pushing forward to take advantage... I run in with an uber kill 2-3 LVL3 sentrys / encampments... I die... I respawn and all 3 are back when I get there...

Sorta rambling, just my take on the game...

Sentries are one of the few things that are balanced in the game. They are powerful, but they are still stationary and can be taken down quite quickly with pipe bombs. The real problem is shit like part 3 of pl_hoodoo where to get to the last point you only have one narrow choke point to go through. When they have 2 or 3 sentries and the choke point is being spammed with stickies you can't even step around the corner without the stickies killing you. None of the maps should require ubers to win like that and the problem really does lie in bad map design.

Sticky launcher is what really needs fixing. It's a rocket launcher with 8 rockets that can fire over walls right now. Damage output on it is just way too high. Also pyro flamethrower animation is still shit. The flame is about twice as long as the animation and you can be caught on fire even if you never are hit by any flames.

Glad I stopped playing a while ago.
Valve needs to release new content to keep the ADD types happy and draw new fans, but sometimes when you bolt on too much crap to an otherwise good game, it just gets ugly.

I WISH THEY WOULD STOP WITH THESE UPDATES FOR A WHILE AND RELEASE HALF LIFE 2 EPISODE 3!!!!!

You guys are all crazy sauce. They have done nothing but improve the game. Hoodoo does need a fix on the last point and I think they should make a no build zone in 2fort near the damn intel or give more routes into the intel room.

But nothing they have done has changed the core game, you still have to work as a team to do anything.

I don't get why everyone is raging. I've pretty much ignored the past year of patches, and everything plays the exact same. I liked when it came out, and I like it now, so what's the big deal?

You do realize that these are likely two completely different teams.

I'm with you on this. I think the game is and has always been great despite what Valve does with it. I'll keep playing as I'm sure the rest of the raging community will be doing as well.

Lol I've been playing more since the updates not less. As for hoodoo and other uber-dependent areas - well that's on your team. If you have dumb medics, you don't win in TF2 - it's as simple as that. It's the same as not having a pyro that is willing to protect 2-3 sentries at the last cap. You'd be surprised how dumb most pub pyros are.

I noticed nobody was spy checking, switched to Pyro and my kill count nearly doubled b/c spies thought they could just run in undetected. Spies/snipers play alot differently than the main classes, and Medic especially - b/c they are not rewarded with a high K:D ratio. Really the game is about unselfishness. If nobody on your team is unselfish enough to switch to a proper counter or to be a medic when you desperately need to cap, you deserve to lose. It's called "team" fortress for a reason.

this, a good medic can often come out with the highest score for the round and its amazing what just 2 medics can do for a team. Some times all it takes it 1 ubered heavy or demo to take out that last 1-2 sentries and win the game.

I enjoy these updates, i find them fun and gives you more options to play with.

TF2 just keeps getting Gayer and Gayer.

Do you have a link to the source where you found this information? I suspect that it is purely opinion.

Personally, I like all of the updates. It adds some variety in the game. The crafting system seems a bit odd for this style of gameplay, but oh well, if you don't like it, don't use it.

I wasn't a big fan of the weapon drops, but I've gotten used to it and actually prefer it now. I have nothing but faith in valve :) I keep wondering away from TF2 for a few months at a wack, but everytime I pick it back up, it sucks me right back in. TF2 just rules :)

lol you're out of your mind.

Sentry guns are EXTREMELY easy to take down, provided you're not a complete newbie. Hell, in most cases an uber charge isnt even necessary. A Demo, using all of his stickies (before detonating them), can take out most of an engineers buildings with only splash damage, if they're close enough together.

Or send in a couple spies with sappers, seconds before an offensive push.

It sounds like you're more annoyed with the lack of teamwork and/or coordination. I've never run into a situation where a sentry has stopped our team in it's tracks (unless the team is filled with a bunch of noobies, which is understandable as they're not used to dealing with it). I play on public servers 99% of the time, but maybe I'm just fortunite to never have delt with that too much? As long as the team is actually cooperating and communicating, steam rolling the other team in usually not a problem

Agreed--if I've got a pyro chasing me, it would be nice if I could actually tell how close I am to getting torched.

LOL right on the money.

As for crafting, the impression I got was that there are some "secret" weapons which will only be available through crafting.

I love new weapons. Every new weapon, provided that it's balanced, brings in a whole new set of possible strategies for a given class. What we want is more strategies, more complicated strategies, more varied play. Essentially, with a few new weapons, you have more or less the equivalent of a completely new class. Tell me the dead ringer spy is played the same as the cloak and dagger spy (it isn't).

Of course it's an opinion. I haven't liked TF2 since they started doing the gay achievements and unlocks, and gradually stopped playing it at all. I wish I could get a refund. It was a fun game at first but they've turned it into a miserable joke.

I was not aware achievements had a sexual preference...

In all seriousness, I'm sorry you have that problem. There's no doubt that when they do an update it throws the game off for a few weeks as everybody tries out the new toys, but I really can't understand the decision to abandon a great game because Valve is giving you more content to play with.

I can understand if his frustration was with people cheating with idle servers...however that problem was rectified a long time ago. You play the game, you will find all the items you need - achievements or not.

Amen brother!

You guys whine about every fucking update to TF2, Ive played since TF2 was released, and all these updates just make it more fun, Valve knows what their doing, and their doing a hella good job, but unfortunately you guys are all bitching. To Valve, KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!!!!

The game netcode makes the game stuttery, with each update the game is getting slower.

You may mean something else, but I have noticed that between long stretches of not playing the game that I have a lot of weird shots land for me and against me. Simply because the game doesn't seem to play as smoothly as it did before. I've tried all kinds of fixes and workarounds, lowering resolutions, cutting out graphic improving options, and other things. One thing I found that fixed it noticeably was disabling sound, but that could have been my mind playing tricks on me.

It's not so much the FPS, but it's sudden drops in FPS that are very fast and only present as a slight stutter. People with really old machines tend to run into it less than people with newer machines, my machine is old...but older machines than mine seem to have less problems. Dunno exactly what it is, but yes I wish they would try to solve it because that irritates me the most when what I see on screen can't possibly have caused my death. Like spies that facestab from 20 feet off, snipers that kill you while they are around the corner on your screen, crit rockets that look like they are clearing you by 10-15 feet but you are gibbed anyway.

Not sure if it's a server issue, a client issue, or just them relaxing the netcode over time.

I love TF2 and the class updates, despite never using them.

Snipers and spies are immensely annoying and cheap while sucking the fun out the game for people playing other classes, but they are needed for balance.

Yes annoyed with lack of teamwork, but the problem stems from the fact that a single engineer can put up a defence that multiple people need to assault. That's not balanced when you need multiple people taking on one sentry, it doesn't even scale linearly, 2 sentries in the same area aren't twice as hard to kill, all of a sudden spies become useless and assaulting is even harder.

It just means defence is a lot easier than assault, in so much that one requires way more teamwork and teamwork is scares on most servers, sure there are "good" servers where good players regular but if I just want to pick the game up and have a dos about that's not helpful.
