I use to have this problem all the time where I would plug in the power to my laptop and it woulnd't charge. If you hovered over to the battery it would just say plugged in, not charging. Now I'm seeing this again in W7. Anyone find a fix for this or a work around?

I just saw this on my sister-in-law's laptop. The solution was to get a new power adapter, because it wasn't supplying enough voltage.

Win7 is irrelevant to your problem.

DeaconFrost probably nailed it. Power brick getting flaky, or maybe a lose connection in it's cables.

I'm having the same problem with an older tablet of mine but I think that its the battery as I've tried a couple of power adapters that work fine on other machines.

I don't think that its the OS. Try turning off your machine, reboot and see if charging resumes.

That's how I figured it out. I rebooted into the BIOS to see if it would register as charging. Dell's also have some nice diagnostics, that told me it was the adapter, and not the battery.

That doesn't mean the battery or adapter can't have an issue. The good news is, it should still be under warranty, so a replacement would be free.

It's a brand new laptop..

I deal with about 20 new laptops a month. Believe me, there hardly comes a shipment without a faulty laptop or three.

I've had numerous problems as you described. It's either the adapter or battery. I tend to purchase the same laptop by the bulk, so I'm always able to test either the battery or adapter on another perfectly working laptop to determine which is faulty.

Laptops are unfortunately fragile in shipment. You should see how they handle your boxes in the warehouse and on flight.
