Network pics thread

Really? Ugh that sucks... maybe i can find them elsewhere, but don't even know who makes them. They come in a white box.

Wanna see something nasty... we were hired to run these lines (prolly 96 per rack, 3 racks) for a client. We had the intention of doing it neat with the "cheap patch" i like to use/etc... but they were in a rush to open so rather then neaten things up heres what they ended up doing:

How does one leave their rack this way...

what a mess. not to mention the knockouts left open in the electrical and the outlets just hanging there...

...but there is the issue of professional pride, heh heh. I look at that and I start to wonder what kind of person would let their cabinets go like that. You wonder about their attention to detail and their ability to deliver. :D

As you should. I've been with this company for six months, it's looking like that since my first day. I didn't let it get that way, but I'm also not going to redo it. Not my problem.

It's about having the time to undertake such a project. My rack at work doesn't look too different from that except my cables are blue and not as long.

Around here at my work, there's always something that takes a higher priority. And the last thing we want to do is come in over the weekend and do it, when in a matter of weeks it'll be back to its ugly state. lol

I would much rather pay contractors to do it!

Heh glad its not my rack :)

Glad i didnt hafta work on it much, i was there like once to fix one wire for an access panel we installed... they shoulda let us setup the rack, ohh well

That's not disorganization, that's a violation of electrical code anywhere in North America!

Very true, but I have seen more times than I can count on both of my hands where relay racks and data centers look like that or worse.

I get violant in places like that. So violant that today I cleaned up my entire office area at home... bought two shelves at home depot and went to town getting rid of clutter.

meh, spaghetti wires are boring. Heres some more eyecandy junk

Gotta love almost maxing out your renters insurance policy with only 2x 1U devices. 10Gbit FTMFW!

What in the hell can you use 10Gbit for right now? What could max that out?
the capability isn't what i want it for, learning another fabric technology was the motivating factor. Also, transferring a full BRD is about a minute is also a benefit. People in this thread have pushed beyond the 10Gbps mark for their file-servers as well.
@xphil3 i havent seen bandwidth results from you lately ;)
Kinda hard when you're lacking the drives, and IB cables:D Ive been slacking recently. What fun is it testing standard gigabit for the stuff that I currently have

This is why I asked. Thanks for the relpy!

np,

Thanks Capt.

Also, many of you have asked me about electric and the first bill came in at my new place. Over 1k sqft apt, all enegy efficient lightbulbs and ALL MY STUFF RUNNING in that rack came out to $60 of electric(total was 120 w/ deposit), w00t:p. Electric is DIRT cheap in VA, wow.

Now my question is that VA is a pretty good sized state but is that living like in the middle of no-where or where there is a resemblance of human life, like near Washington D.C.? :D

Here we are, just finished moving and beginning the assembly of my infrastructure.

Just an FYI: The network cable organizers we discussed a few pages back are now back in stock at Deepsurplus.com. HERE

Can someone point me in the direction of cheap racks? I would love a wall mount rack but I am open to the open racks too.

I second that! lol
