Avatar Demo out now

will the demo be in german?
1.6gb demo, gd. although I am getting ~600kb - 1mb/s off their servers, so not terrible

It got up to 1.8MBytes/s (16Mb/s, connected at 17.7Mb/s), took its time getting up to speed though but it did sustain it solid.
Minimum was 600KBytes/s.

It complained that the UK Readme.txt was corrupt so I ignored that and it installed ok.
It crashed a few times while trying to get it to run but it worked ok eventually.
Changing it to DX10 mode made it reset the graphics settings but left it in DX10 mode.
Now it says its running 1080p but isnt full screen, ALT Enter fixed that.

The demo ran fine but with no sound and theres no way to quit the intro until its time to play.
(the very start of the demo as it loads has the intro music plink sound but nothing after that)
Quality Control not so good, I have no trouble running other games.

PC spec in case it helps anyone with similar issue:
Win7 -32
E8400 on X38 mobo
GTX260 - 195.39 driver
Auzentech Prelude (tried in Entertainment and Gaming sound modes)

Edit:
played with no sound and its pretty good fun.
The graphics have the feel of the old "Unreal" game while the gameplay reminds me of Unreal Tournament :)
Its very colourful and presentable.
I quite like it, dont know how good the sound is tho.

This is a seriously pretty-looking game. Performance is great with settings maxed.

Will reserve judgement on gameplay til I have played it properly, but it seems solid and looks like it will have quite a lot of depth too with the XP and leveling up and whatnot.

Could be an unexpected hit.

it looks like halo and peter jackson's king kong spliced together.

And I mean that in the worst possible way.

The part they just showed through House looks good animation wise, but they spent a small fortune on it. Other than that the story seems kind of weak, but Cameron hasn't made a really crappy movie yet so....we'll see.

I don't think he's made a truly good movie since Aliens. Avatar looks like the latest installment of Hollywood's tired lecture on the evils of western (read: U.S.) military imperialism. King of the World Cameron spent $300+ million on a cartoon to tell us how bad we are.

The game looks kinda blah but Im certain Im going to see the movie a thousand thousand times. Why? Stan "mutherfuckin" Winston that's why.

I can't wait to see this movie. James Cameron has always made good movies, and I'll be glad to see Sigourney Weaver on the big screen again.

The story does seem weak and cheesy. I bet in the end he sides with the aliens to fight against the humans.

Too much CGI for my liking, reminds me a little of Jar-Jar Binks.

I'll still be buying my ticket from the 17th December onwards

Game looks really good, and seems pretty fun so far (in a shoot the hell outta everything kinda way.)

Good post all the way around. great read. I love short stories

talking about the movie the game is based on seems appropriately on-topic to me, but who knows with these mods.

I was a bit excited about avater until I actually saw the trailer/screenshots. :( oh well, might see it in the theaters and play the demo at some point, some of the environments do look interesting

It's simple, game is one media and movie is a different media. While related and off handed comments are fine. I don't want the discussion to focus on the movie, but instead, focus on the game, as this is the game forum. And like I mentioned above we have an entertainment forum in the subscription area to discuss the merits of the movie.
