But I finally did what I set out to do. I made it to page 1.

And now I'm about to buy a GTX 295.

I used to only have ati cards and one computer. Do you see what this place has done to me!? But no really. I'm not an nvidia guy and the gtx 260 I bought last week was my first nvidia card in 6 years, so besides 12k+ ppd, anything else fun I should know about the 295? Also, this will be going into an x48 machine with a gtx 260. Obviously not for SLi, but all I will need to do is extend the desktops, right?

The only multi-gpu I have done was with my 4870x2, and that was pretty simple...

There are two versions:

sandwich (dual PCB) - being phased out, consumes more power due to dual Power circuitry
Single PCB - the new revision.

Is there any major difference? Both machines have thermaltake toughpower 1200w psu's, so I hope power will not be an issue. One machine does have a 4870X2, and the other has a 260. If I am not mistaken, the 295 is 10.5 inches long, but I think I am going to wait until I have the card before I decide what to do with it.

The 4870x2 is in a Lian Li v2000, but I am already having thermal issues with my x2 folding 24/7. The downside is that the case with the 260 is a LL v1000, a lot less real estate, so I dunno. I guess it would come down to what do the temps look like on a 295. Not any better than my x2 I'm guessing? I was considering liquid cooling the v2000...

Nice job, I'm hoping to make it into the top 200 myself here in a day or two, assuming I don't get mowed before then!

Nice folding!

You will be pushing top 100 before to long after you fire that card up.

Congrats bro. People like yourself give something for us little guys to strive for.
Maybe someday i too can be on the front page with the rest :D.
Congrats.

Kudos to you on your front page achievement. Shows a lot of determination on your part, and the 295 will only help you to achieve more in your folding goals. ;) Keep up the good work and fold [H]ard!

Hey, we all have to start somewhere, for me it was a lonely P4 and one client. Once I found the GPU client tho... :D

Welcome to the club. Like others have said before, the climb is steeper now.

Before you know it you'll build a dedicated folding box........I know since I just did it.

Fold On!!!!

What OS will you be running? With XP, you need to extend the desktops and everything should work.

With Vista or Win7, it's more complicated. If the 295 is your primary card (hooked to your monitor), then F@H might detect both GPUs on the card and it might not. Play with the PhysX settings in the drivers, and if that doesn't work, enable SLI. The 260 will need either a monitor or dummy plug connected to be detected by F@H. The configuration is basically as if you were using the 295 in SLI and the 260 as a PhysX card for gaming.

also, be wary, with mine, the dual PCB ones, both DVI's are on one GPU and the HDMI is on the other, meaning if you run anything other than XP youll need DVI dummies (one per card) and HDMI dummies (one per card) minus whatever real displays you put on them

My 295's can only fold on one core each now until I get the HDMI dummies built. Not bad tho, 2 cores at 15k PPD is good

Also, 2 series whine is an issue . SWMBO killed my rigs while I was playing army the last few weeks, but since me and SWMBO are splitting up now (5 years 8 months :( ) I only have to listen to GPU's whining!

Just turned my main rig back online, but I think she just pulled the plug on my 260 folder, cuz its unstable as hell now. grrrr I guess Ill hve to live with 15k until my parts for the 4 way 88 come in

Vaulter, with the 19x.xx drivers, you can enable SLI and not have to put a second dummy plug on a single GTX 295 card. Also, with two cards you can enable quad SLI and not need any dummies, just a single monitor. The hardware bridge to fully enable quad SLI does not need to be installed for folding, but the drivers may complain until you install it.

negative, running dual MSI dualPCB cards now, with the hardware bridge installed, and quad SLI is on, its a no go. Only the dummied cores work. I thought the same thing when I did my reinstall but to no avail. win 7 with latest 191.xx drivers

Yeah, I just came home from the weekend and noticed I'd been mowed, congrats, and welcome to the club from the last newest member!

Yeah, hopefully it's two days, or you may knock me off the front page for a few days... Damn wireless network crashes when you're gone!

I feel you bro, my SO shut off one rig and pulled the plug on my test set (no case, no power button)
went from 35 to 0 and now I cant get my test rig up, gotta redo the OS install
