Hopefully a PC game or emulated game because I don't own a console. My aim is to find an obscure game that is probably overlooked by most, but is an enjoyable experience. I'm very much interested in silly story lines that will actually make me laugh. For example, Bangai-O.

I was going to suggest Dragon Age, really funny game, and very fun.

Other than RPGs, I guess Counter Strike would be your best bet? :)

Oh, Grand Theft Auto 4 is very good as well. Definitely get that if you haven't played it yet.

Sorry, can't be much help, but you should really try Dragon Age. Maybe they'll have a demo sometime

Fallout
Fallout 2
The Witcher
Deus Ex
Baldur's Gate series
Mass Effect series
Bioshock
Simon the Sorcerer
Grim Fandango
Max Payne series
MDK series
Escape from Monkey Island series
The Longest Journey
NOLF series
Thief series

I've listed a few but I would say any adventure game from LucasArts and any RPG from Bioware or Black Isle.

Dude, just search metacritic for any game reviewed over 85% and you're fine. Great games with good story are not hard to find.

Psychonauts and Beyond Good & Evil are both underrated fun/funny gems. Not much replayability but I had fun with both going through them the first time.

Conkers Bad Fur Day

Giants Citizen Kabuto.

Both of these are excellent games with very funny characters and storylines I highly recommend them.

Second Psychonauts.

Awesome game! Although it probably isn't underrated just overlooked.

edit: Fixed the OP to make things a little clearer.

Ok I get it now. Well, trust me on this one, get an N64 and play the original Conker's Bad Fur Day. The XBox remake was censored, and the N64 version was not. zomg it's so good.

Also, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie are super great and hilarious.

Any of the first 3 ratchet and crank games are great, but you might only be able to find them on consoles unfortunately.

Grim Fandango = hilarious.

And here's one of my favorite sleeper hits that's available on PC: MDK, the first one. It's freaking hilarious, and the gameplay is really cool.

Looks like I have a lot of catching up to do. I've played through both Banjo games and loved every moment. I played through some of Conker's Bad Fur Day, but gave up because I didn't have enough of those little cash bundles and I lost interest in searching for them. Also, I played the second MDK on Dreamcast but I don't remember much about it. :(

I'm looking forward to Grim Fandango and the NOLF games, thanks. :)

Beyond Good and Evil (PC version Highly Recommended)

Monkey Island Series

Prince of Persia (The new one)

Fallout
Fallout 2
The Witcher
Deus Ex
Baldur's Gate series

Grim Fandango
Max Payne series
MDK series
Escape from Monkey Island series
The Longest Journey
NOLF series
Thief series

Grim Fandango is my most favorite game for story line and it is an obscure game because its older. Only some of the older gamers will know of this game. Don't expect amazing graphics on this game, but playing through the story line more then makes up for it.

The Longest Journey was good too.

All of LucasArts game are pretty good.

Psychonauts and Serious Sam 2 both have well written humor.

the new Sam and Max, and if you can get any of the older Lucasarts games going (Full Throttle, DOTT, og Sam + Max, etc) you'll have a blast.

Bazylik hit the nail on the head.

the graphics actually aren't that bad, i played it on my Retro PC not long ago and i was impressed with how good the graphics look when combined with some of hte static backgrounds.

But after 5 minutes in the game with the great dialogue you don't even notice it.

does anyone know if it runs on win7? i know it supports DirectX 7 but when i tried to install it on my Vista machine it complained and failed (The installer i think is 16bit)

I'm not sure, I will check tonight...I'll find some time to cram it in between Dragon Age :D

And note: I meant graphics aren't great in comparison/contrast to more recent games :) I love the game either way.

If you want great RPG's my fav's would be Deus Ex and Vamp the Masquerade Bloodlines (along with Oblivion). If you had a PS3 i'd say get the Ratchet and Clank series as they are top notch. Also you could pick up the Uncharted Series as the sequels a good runner for Game of the Year, 99 metacritics reviews = 96 rating thats F*cking crazy and on a side note i felt it's the best looking graphical game on any console to date by far (i hate console graphics btw). The ice mission in the cave is breathtaking.

Ghostbusters. I enjoyed the game with all the silly wise cracks from the original cast members from the movies; most of which is directed at the character you play.

Giants Citizen Kabuto

+50

Silly, and very funny and a great game as well, although fairly old now.

I'd probably go for some of the quirky puzzle games as well, monkey island is quite old now although theres a remake available for a few £/$ you can't go wrong, and Telltales new remake of the series "Tales of Monkey Island" is also fairly quirky and funny in places.

You might find the same with Sam and Max, the old ones are good and the TellTale remakes are alright I suppose.

Honestly for me the best silly/funny games are always the quirky puzzle adventure games.

I took OP to mean you want comedy games. Only 2 come to mind.

Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse - best zombie game ever, and hillarious to boot. It uses the Halo 1 engine, but it's very well designed, and the graphics have aged very well. If you haven't played this one yet, do it now!

No One Lives Forever (1 and 2 use Unreal engines 1 and 2 respectively) - was a great game in it's time and the funniest games I've ever played, but the graphics are looking extremely dated lately. Even the sequal looks like crap, and I haven't been able to get back into them the last few times I've tried. YMMV

Hah, almost forgot about Giants. I know where my CD is. I might have to go back and reinstall it to play thru again.

Obscure story...

humm try Phantasmagoria 1 & 2, may be a bit hard to fine...

that was a pretty good one

omg i remember Phantasmagoria!!! i never did play the second one.

OMFG another classic... try Return to Zork!!! should run perfectly through DOSbox

* ATI Video cards are not supported

 That... is bizarre!! No way is that really true! Anyone with ATI ever tried Stubbs?

...looking on Steam forum, looks like ATI users are playing it - just make sure you're on the latest Catalyst for bug-free experience... weird. Thread Thread Thread

If it still doesn't work, you can always just get a real video card and try playing it with that. :p (j/k)

yea Grimfandango is a no go in Win7 64bit for the installer, but just copy both CDs GrimData/d irectory over to the hard drive and then you can play just fine. (The arrow keys seem to be sticky though in teh game)
