Dragon Age Origins discussion...

I just got Morrigan and now I'm at the first city. Groups of refugees and bandits.. whatever, around groups of 8 tear me apart on hard. I just get surrounded and destroyed. Guess I will have to change tactics and figure out what I'm doing wrong.

There is a patch out now to ''fix'' the scaling difficulty between Easy and Normal mode.

I can't test this now since I am at work, but what should I be looking for? And based on that, are there any tweaks I could do?

I'm looking to see if you are CPU limited.
There is a chance that one core is getting fully loaded by the game or another program is hogging the CPU.
First step in the diagnosis....
Why comes later.

Crowd control! I think Morrigan comes with some decent spells that help with it.

Sorry, I didnt see the status after that because I got an email on Weds saying it had been posted.
If you havent had that email, its probably not on its way.

I got an email today with the unlock codes but no shipping confirmation and it still says packing! I am in Sweden so it´s not impossible it´s on it´s way anyway but my old orders said posted...

They hide their emailadresses quite well but I sent a question to [email protected] so hopefully I will get some answer.
edit: They outsmarted me again this mailbox is unattended :(

Morrigan is the crowd-control queen. Horror, Mind Blast, Sleep, Nightmare. Good stuff.

I was getting wiped in Redcliffe last night and got so pissed, I quit the game. I cooled down a bit and decided to try again. I fire steam up and it auto-updated with this in the patch notes. Lol, it made that battle a LITTLE bit easier. But dayyyum, what is with all the zombies!?!?

Judging by other peoples experience with play.com, support is handled by phone.
Apparently the support is excellent, I have no experience of it though.
Check the web site for a local number.

The game is like multiboxing a full party in WoW except with pause?

That quote is so sad. Having WoW as your only frame of reference.

I guess you cant make money off DLC if the kiddies cant survive til Watcher's Keep to buy it.

Why is that sad?

There are a ton of excellent and challenging PC RPGs, from which this is directly descended. And a statement like 'is it like multiboxing WoW?' means he probably hasnt played any of them. This game is more like a 3-D version of Planescape:Torment, or KOTOR without lightsabers than like WoW.

So yeah, its like multiboxing WoW, sure. But multiboxing your way through Scholomance at level 60, in blue gear right after WoW came out. Before they nerfed it and removed half the spawns. Get yourself a tank, healer and a few DPS and pull slowly...its not going to be a pushover like WoW is now (unless you play on Easy, I suppose).

I had a friend in vent say that this is pushing his deffinition of what a RPG should be. That it is ground breaking and like a RTS made babies with a RPG. I said WTF are you talking about. They have made games like this before. I named a few that no one had ever heard of and then I remembered, I am 29 they are 19 and I felt very sad.

Yeah its probably going to get a lot worse as we all age. We've got titles like Starcraft 2 coming soon and I bet most people havent even played the first Starcraft, since it was over ten years ago. Same time period as when the Baldur's Gate games were new.

... okay.

Well maybe we can spin it another way, and look at WoW as the gateway drug for people new to RPGs, leading to harder stuff like Dragon Age :p

Sad that he hadnt played the great RPGs of old, followed by a way-too-detailed analogy for the WoW players. Sorry if I lost anyone

Anyone tried it with this yet, now that its fixed?

Tell me about it. I bought Akalabeth from Richard Garriott in a plastic bag and from then on I was hooked. But nobody these days even remembers all that stuff.

It get expensive with international phone calls and since english is not my primary language I tend to get pissed off and frustrated when I am forced to make myself understood due to my own incompetence :p... I guess I will wait another week and hope for the best then lol.

Starcraft? Oh, you mean the game that's like Halo Wars?

Just created a female human mage and there is several polygons on her face being dragged down which causes a nasty graphical effect, not sure if this is an overheating problem, but I don't have my 4870's overclocked right now...strange, usualy an artifact of overheating.

Anyone else had this?

Ah I had manual fan control set (although quite high) I guess it was just overheating, set back to auto and it's quieter and also not glitching, strange :}

One other thing, i've got the steam version, the 2 key codes I had let me unlock the bonus items on the website but evne after creating an account I can't seem to use either of those keys to register the game, anyone got any ideas? It's certainly not loading my profile up in game.

I had something similar, I just tabbed out and back in and the issue fixed itself.

See now playing DA:O, I definitely feel a WoW/MMO influence in how they setup everything. I think the assessment was accurate, because DA:O does feel a bit like slowly multiboxing (with pause) through a WoW dungeon.

I can't play this game, the problem is the font size. I really am struggling to read any text unless is squint at about 1 foot away from the screen.

Is there any way to increase the size of the font other than lowering resolution?

This is a game breaker for me.

Thank you for the multiboxing comparison. That's exactly what it feels like. You even have to have the old trinity of tank, healer and damage to actually succeed.

Far more similar to the games that came before it in this genre than WoW or any MMO.

Those that played the older RPG's "multiboxed" through Baldurs Gate. You needed a tank, healer, CC, dps etc. WoW really pioneered nothing.

I've been playing this game, and everything I do pisses off Sten, seriously how the fuck do you make that thing happy?

Who said WoW pioneered anything?

Took me about 8-10 hours because I read every bit of text I could find :) he said he rerolled a new character, so if he's on the same boat as I am, he wouldn't reroll if he spent that much time with a character already.

I don't know if he's past it or not, assumed he hasn't.

Yeah, I started the game as a healer after reading through this thread. Playing on normal and so far nothing has really been challenging. I only pause at the beginning of combat, direct my tank to attack a target, and then switch to manually play the healer. I was an expert MUD player and script writer in my youth, so I just make customized tactics for all my guys and keep them up and they lay waste to everything without pauses.
