New DFI Mini-ITX MI P55-T36

That's great news. I know a lot of people have the Zotac 775 but I hate Zotac.
 
OMFG! I hope they clock well with great bios-functions from ATX boards! Yeah Zotac 9300 ITX kinda sucks.
 
i doubt it. Mini-ITX is power limited so you don't want people to be killing the thing.
 
There is no onboard wireless network like Zotac 9300.

Better onboard graphic?
 
Well at least it was 6 phase power management, should do well enough for the size considering lynnfield is faster than core 2 clock per clock.
 
When I meant like ATX-board, I was pointing at a better selection range of voltage values and the ability to run it @ 4ghz. Something Zotac seems to suck at, especially with that crappy 9300 chipset.
 
I'm saying it probably won't be an OCer like the ATX boards....the board can't handle that much power draw.

Hmm like fr500 said, it seems to be some kind of 5+1 phase power management (from the pix). Not too shabby IMO. OK you won't be breaking OCing records, but that should be pretty good nevertheless. That's the same as the P55M-UD2, no?

I'm no expert on this stuff to say the least but the Gigabyte P55-UD4 has 12 no? The P55-UD2 has 6 clearly and this one doesn't appear to have 6 but 4....am I blind (yes, I really can't see well on a computer), someone show me what I'm missing because the chances of me being wrong is like 99%:)
 
Also there is nothing wrong with the 9300 chipset by itself, you just need to cool it well, the Zotac board is a segment board, aimed at HTPC enthusiasts mostly.

This gamer / oveclocker ITX segment is just emerging and it could be said Zotac made it possible, there were boards with the same basic features (Commell I think) some time ago, but were very very expensive.

This board doesn't include an IGP, that consumes power too, not having an IGP should make cooling the chipset and overclocking a bit better than on the Zotac board.
 
It's gonna be the best out there but DFI doesn't make the strongest OCers...but really, I think this is going to be great.

It all depends, really. There are people on this SFF forum who will swear by their DFI JR P45. From what I understand they are not easy to master, but once mastered they produce very good results. I don't really know about other chipsets, though.

I don't read a large number of ATX reviews...I just happen to remember out of their two mATX AM3 boards one is not that great and one hasn't been reviewed (785g one) but the construction of the Gigabyte is superior, no?

Who knows, I'm sure DFI is like the rest...some suck some don't.

We will see but this excites me more than some of the others out there.
 
My DFI-NF4 would like to have a word with you.

It refuses to have words with a lot of other things, though... like some PSUs, and some RAM sticks, depending on the orange or yellow slots, lol. While I loved my Ultra-D, the damn thing was picky as hell and wouldn't play nice with A LOT of parts. However, I agree, DFI's NF4 boards were, no doubt, among the strongest OC'ing boards for s939. Though, I don't think their Intel offerings are considered among the strongest for Core2/i5/i7.

I guess. But the thing about reviews, is that usually the differences uncovered (clocking-wise) will only matter to a minority. Usually they all clock well enough for the majority of us (there are exceptions, though). So if, for example, the DFI board only manages 215 BCLK when others reach 225 BCLK or more, well personally I don't care. That's good enough for me. I'm more interested in features at this point. And today in the fact this is the only P55 miniITX so far. Wouldn't you agree?
 
No on-board wireless is a bummer.

Even though it's an extra, at the very most, $20 I'm really glad they didn't pack in a useless 802.11G card onboard. Or even onboard N. Sorry. I already have one that I use. I don't want another internal wireless card taking up space in my junk drawer (I already have three from the Zotac boards I've bought).

But that means a USB dongle. Not the end of the world I guess, but a bit messier... I never realised that the WiFi on the Zotac board was a USB daughter card, I've just noticed it.

They've really reached a plateau, all enthusiast boards overclock pretty much the same under normal conditions. Of course there are exceptions and pretty much every board has wierd quirks. I'm confident that this board will be the best overclocking ITX board yet.

Yeah I agree...it appears to be better than the Intel one coming out as well.

I'm wondering if ASUS is coming out with a 1156 mini-itx. I don't have contacts with those guys!
 
DFI mobos are very touchy but like mentioned earlier in the hands of a master they perform wonders. I'm not going to get into the Intel vs AMD argument. Each to their own.

Steeeeve, I imagine ASUS will get into the competition eventually. They don't like to be left out when there is money to be made. :)

I think manufacturers need to wake up and smell the coffee. 60cm-high towers triple-GTX295 (or whatever) with 1200W PSU will/should become a thing of the past. The new standard is mATX, and the new SFF is mini ITX, especially with 1-chip chipsets.
My pet peeve now is graphics cards manufacturers who seem to want to produce bigger and more power-hungry cards. Why did all of a sudden AMD produce a 5870 slightly longer than 10.5in? Until now their 4870/4890 were much shorter. And what do we hear from nVidia? They want to produce a 2-billion transistor GPU. How are they going to cool that? 13" triple slot cards? I mean what the hell. Anything bigger than a 5770 (ok then, a 5850) is ridiculous. I just sold my GTX 260 and when I took it out of my case I realised I had forgotten how big it is. Ridiculous (I know I said it already, but I like it).

I think everyone is on the bandwagon that mini-itx is the new SFF. I know SFFClub is going to concentrate more on it than mATX. Anandtech had an article about mini-itx being SFF and the IDC confirms that the small 13L and under cases are gaining huge amounts of the market share as is AIO.

You are right though...the GPUs are ridiculous. No one is going to wait a case with a depth of 1.5+ feet just because the GPU is there.

You guys hit it right on the button...32nm CPU's are fast-approaching, and should hit 25nm in the not-too-distant future...GPUs are down to 40nm and 32nm should be no more than 2 1/2 years off...don't even get me started with how much more powerful mobile GPU's have gotten...

SO WHY THE HELL ARE VIDEO CARDS APPROACHING 13.5 INCHES IN LENGTH?

cause there are two of them? And it's just an engineering sample, not the actual card?
