The New EVE: Apocrypha

CVA is back, the name was returned and the sov levels didn't drop. What a day...

Good that CCP reversed the hax. Espionage is one thing but metagame exploiting sucks.

I'm headed to 0.0 with modest skills (no capital skills), isk and equipment, into an area that will probably be bitterly contested on D-Day by massive capital fleets. Should be fun. ;)

I've always heard a lot of "0.0 is the real EVE" comments. I'm looking forward to it.

If you get a few hours to read, check out the blog from Innominate Nightmare, circa 2006. Few tech details but it's a fun read about how people interact in 0.0. (The not-so-fun bit is reading a blog from oldest to newest.)

CCP really needs to fix the one-click disband.

Glad to see CVA is back and sov restored. Now we can get back to shooting at you like always. :D

Anyone else play with the market here, or is that just me? Just recently got into it, been making a lot of isk.

That's one thing I haven't read *anything* about.

Cliffs? Please include '3: Profit' so I don't forget that step.

I havn't had the time yet
Been busy stacking up core-skills (CPU, Powergrid(and reduction of said requirements) and running missions to build up LP, ISK and loot...maybe in a year or so...if I ever get around to it...EVE is frigging BIG! :D

#1 buy low
#2 sell high
#3 profit

I mean there's really no need to read up on anything, just do it. If you are low on cash then focus on items which are in high demand and very inexpensive so that you can make multiple hundreds of % profit.

But like I said elsewhere in this thread, focus on how much ISK you need, and then find a way to get it, rather than saying "I want more ISK".

What location? :p;):D

Hand's off. He's mine. :p He just joined the same corp that I'm in last night.

But if you want to throw down, our low-sec hangout where we take the young'uns to try their stuff out is Archee in Sing Laison.

Ive had some fun with Marketing there for awhile. The experience I gained from it was this.....Dont do it unless you have money to burn. Let me put it another way...

Dont do marketing as "THE" means of you gaining ISK. Already have a source of income.

To see a significant profit for your time spent is going to take a lot of isk. Otherwise, your just nic-pickin profit from small orders.

Now, if you already have a source of income which keeps you viable and happened to have saved up some spending money...Id say go for it...Marketing IS fun once you get to understand how it works.

Tonight, when I log in...Im thinking of doing a bit of WH exploring. I havent probed for WH's in months and now that I have a better idea of how to fight (NPC's), I thought I would see what all these "sleepers" are all about.

I had thought it UNWISE to take my BC into WH space to begin with...instead, I was thinking of using scout, but then, I remember a fellow [H] player whom got stuck in WH space cause he didnt bring extra probes. Scouts cant carry anything...so using a scout wouldnt be a good idea either.

Should I just go ahead and warm up the engines of my Tristan and do my probing and scouting from this ship?

Also, when I find a complex...How do I wake up the sleepers? Shoot a few 250's across their barracks window? :)

Thought this was related to corp shares, not normal market items.

I think what you can do is:

1) Scout/probe/find complex then bookmark.

2) Bring back a more powerful ship, warp to bookmark. (May want to keep scan probe launcher equipped in the event of a wh collapse.

2a) Sleepers will wave hi as soon as they see you, no need to knock on the door.

3) Profit

[edit] 4) Keep your scanner open and active. Plenty of wh gankers and they may base in hisec. If they're based in the same Empire system as you, chances are there's a cloaked [whatever] watching for people entering the wormhole. If your scanner reveals scan probes, gtfo.

5) If you see a POS on scan the wh may be occupied and the residents are generally not friendly.

Start with hisec wormholes as the plexes are easier... The difficulty can be linked to the name (I think 'Perimeter Trap' is 'low' difficulty.)

Check for wh fits for your Myrm, the sleepers have big range/damage so you'll need to heal up or deal massive DPS. With low levels you be able to PvP fit 'just in case', but if you're ganked they probably have friends nearby.

Corp shares are just a gimmick, they are not used for anything. Out of game "shares" are trades for various in-game investment schemes. I know some folks made decent returns on that, but personally I prefer to keep my ISK for me to lose than for someone else to run off with it.

Went on a little shopping spreee today:
2x7 HML II
1x Salvager
3 x LSE II
2 x Inv Field II
F-90 Remote sensor (with scripts)
2 x SPR II
2 x BCU II

Then I got to the rigs department.
Medium Core Defence Purge I ~2 mill ISK
Medium Core Defence Purge II ~80 mill isk.
80 mill...
That is more than my fragging Drake cost...with no modules.

Ah well, 3 x Medium Core Defence Purge I it is...untill I get trained skills so I can "invent" a Medium Core Defence Purge I BCP into a Medium Core Defence Purge II BPC...ah well...I thiunk ma' Drake will do fine untill then...if not...it's only pixels :D

yea exactly.... don't bother with t2 rigs until you really have loads of surplus ISK. tbh haven't checked since the sized rigs introduction, but the numbers above just clarify the stupidness of them. extends to say that manufacturing/invention of the things is also a bit pointless unless you are really dedicated/niche.

dunno about pve drake fits (assuming pve.... SPR's get laughed at in PVP) , so no comment - but probably better with rat specfic hardeners than the invuls though.

They used to be 300m before the introduction of different size rigs so what are you complaining about again? ;)

Not complaining...just surprised...but I will get them in the end...invention is the game ;) *L*
Now I what I will train for...after my Drake training (and supporting skills) are done.

I plan to game till I drop...I like the one universe, you can loose stuff...and not say no to a fight, if proper points are applied against you.

I went Ibis -> Merlin -> skipped destroyers (*) -> Caracal -> Drake.
This puppy (or her succesors) is going to get me through L3's and do some L4's, combined with my future Raven.
And I have barely scratched into the surface of this game...can't wait for more!

(*)Caldari is missiles first, though a Cormorant fitted with 2xCargo Exp, Fuel Inejct, 1xAB and some salvagers/Tractors will make a nice salvager rig for later on I figure.

The fit I have linked to in this thread goes from this(with Medium CDF II):
AVG shield regen: 52.29 HP/s
MAX shield regen: 132.3 HP/s

To this(with Medium CDF I's):
AVG shield regen: 43.61 HP/s
MAX shield regen: 101.09 HP/s
(At current skill level, still training supporting skils to L5...the worst being HM's(for those fast Tech 2 launchers)

Out of a shield tank of +15K...some +50K EFH according to EFT.

Those Tech II's does add the the tank (remember the build is a Level 3 (and plus) mission runner, where tank > gank.
For PVP I would fit the Drake in a different mannor...the most obvious being HAM's instead om HM's of course.

The INV II are just to be sure I can fit other Tech II hardners..as I plan on having 2 x EM, THE, EXP, KIN and 2 x INV ;)

But if you think I missed something I am always open for a good fit? :)

Meanwhile I ponder of the beauty of a Caldari Navy Drake...now that would be a beast...

yes no doubt the t2 are better... but extra 234mil for level 3's.....hell no. apparently the drake can tank & complete (eventually) lvl 4's in which case that extra tank is nice - but in all honesty get a raven/cnr/golem.

its really about cost vs effectiveness, the t2 rigs aren't that much better to warrant the cost (and lol at reselling a 30mil hull for +300m down the line..) . if you get in a situation where you losing your drake to lvl3 missions, then the extra tank probably wouldn't have saved you anyway & the tears will hurt a lot less.

Cormorant has only 1 low slot. Train for a Catalyst, 3 lows and 829m3 cargo with 3 cargo expander IIs. You'll probably want 3 CCC's as rigged plus a cap recharger II because the Cat has shit for cap. You can't quite permarun everything even with the cap boosts but intelligent use of your MWD/salvagers will keep you running through any mission graveyard.

[edit] If you lose a Drake on a level 3, please post here for some lulz. ;)

Being the low-skill noob I am, I'm finally flying a Drake. Definately one of the better looking Caldari birds. Even with my low skills, I could probably AFK in the middle of a lvl 2 mission (with the right fit) and return an hour later without having any armor damage. Anyways, here's my PvE Drake fit if anyone is interested in scrutinizing it:
(note: amps are specific to mission and not necessarily what you see here)

Highs:
5x HML (standard heavy missiles)
3x Malkuth HML (standard heavy missiles)

Mids:
2x Kinetic Deflection Amp 1
1x Heat Dissipation Amp 1
2x Large Shield Extender 1
1x Invuln field 1

Lows:
3x Shield Power Relay
1x DCU 1

HP: 44,728
Defense 116
DPS: 80
Volley Damage: 1103

cap stable at 59%

I can also boost the DPS a bit if I load some uber expensive faction missiles. So far I haven't needed to though. :)

No rigs?

drake is pretty much overkill for lvl2's which are generally cruiser/firgate size missions & intended to be flown in a cruiser ( i'm even wh0ring some standings for an alt using a destroyer without issues in lvl 2's).

But if you must.... too much tank for lvl2's, drop some SPR's for BCU's , invul for an AB or TP maybe, and some of those funky missle rigs to reduce expolsion radius thingy - see your mission times soar

or just use atech's fit earlier with the t1 rigs and man up to the level 3's :)

I spent most of my training time up until now on learning and social skills and I sort of adapted a mini-carreer as a ninja salvager (salvage/scanning/maneuvering skills) so I'm really just now starting to focus more on combat skills.

I'm running lvl 2 missions now until my standings are high enough to move on to lvl 3. I've only been playing less than 2 months and about half of that has been ninja salvaging to build up some isk. I'm just now getting into running missions for a more reliable source of income. Rigging skills are already on the EveMon short list but I might move them up to the top.

old thread, but anyway... I've been playing for a couple weeks and currently around in a catalyst running the lvl 1 mission arc. I have a pretty good grasp on the basic mechanics of the game. my ship is fit for mission running, nothing fancy. I have 1.5 mil isk in the bank, so pretty much nothing.

what is a decent way I can make ~30 million isk to buy the advaned skill training books? i've already done most of the basic learning skills to 4 or 5 so I can train everything else faster. now I want some of the high level books, however they are 4.5 mil each

I am all for making another character if needed just so I can farm up a quick 30 mil. my character name is jawfish.

Train the "Salvaging" Skill if you haven't already. That easily doubles, even triples, what you make from those missions. Training the "Salvaging Skill" shouldn't take too long since they lowered the requirements in the Dominion update.

EVE sucks when you're new, have some isk. Don't go spending it on anything expensive, stick to small ships and t1 gear till you've lost a couple then invest the rest into ships to make you more serious money. Always insure and change your underpants.

+1 for both of these responses.

If you haven't already:

Get EVEMon downloaded and setup to help make a character plan, even for short term, though it is helpful for long term planning also. http://evemon.battleclinic.com/

Get EVEFit so you can see what ships and what fittings you can fly without having to spend the ISK on the ships and modules, it imports your character data and uses your skills to show what you can and can't fit. http://www.eveonline.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=548883

Good luck!

after losing three cheap frigates (all atrons) in a short time, everything I have now has platinum insurance :) also I switched my catalyst over to 7x 125mm rail guns w/ +20% range ammo so I can blast targets from long distance. things have been going better with this setup compared to my attempts to speed tank in frigates.

if you sent me any isk, thanks! I won't blow it on weapons or anything, just need skill books and more experience now before I buy fun stuff later on. i gain a few levels in the salvaging skill as well, surely that will come in handy while running missions (plus its fun to check wreckage, even if the contents are low in value).

evemon is actually what prompted me to post. I ran a few things through eve mon to see how long training would take and to better plan my skills. when I clicked on 'optimize' then it noted I would save a few weeks just from getting the advanced learning skill books and raising my attributes even further before working on skills

I did my catalyst fit on a piece of paper, I will get eve fit too, thanks!

dam ccp havent come out with a salvage ship yet? thats a bummer. when i quit playing it was a rumor they were gonna do one.........i guess it was a rumor.

I usually just use a BC for salvaging, holds alot more than a destroyer and is still pretty fast/agil while having alot more defenses.

Sorta tempted to play Eve. It's ruthless in such a way that it reminds me of Diablo 2 hardcore. Alot to risk, alot to gain. I'll probably just keep putting it off though.
