I was going to wire the house to add ports in each room, so what's a good place to buy 1000ft of cat6? I see some on monoprice and I see some on ebay for less, but I'm not sure which one suits me best. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Did you know that even 10g ethernet can run on Cat5e cable for short distances ?

I just wired my house in cat 6 and when I was told that Cat5e can do 10g I wouldn't have paid twice as much for cat6.

I bought it from a local distributor in Montreal but if I couldn't get it from cablek, I would have ordered it from Monoprice since I never had a bad experience with them.

Yes, I realize that cat5e is quite capable, but the switch will be about 100ft from the farthest access point, so I thought I might as well go with cat6.

10GBASE-T will work up to 55 m (180 ft) with existing Cat 6 cabling and up to 45 m (148 ft) with existing Cat 5e cabling. In order to allow deployment at the usual 100 m (328 ft), the standard uses a new partitioned Category 6a (a.k.a "augmented Cat6") cable specification, designed to reduce crosstalk between UTP cables, known as alien crosstalk. Some manufacturers of cable have released "Cat7" cable which is specifically marketed for 10GBASE-T compatibility and claims greater shielding beyond cat6a specifications.
