Eyefinity and Triple DVI working.

My monitor setup was a 30" Apple Display and a 2407 Dell. I decided to see if the "Must all be exact same res" info was correct, mostly because buying 2 more of either diplay seemed silly.

The adapter isn't ideal and would frequently drop the group. The software is smart enough to arrange the 3 displays into a res that works. It took the 30" down from 2560x1600 to 1920x1200.thus allowing a desktop of 5760x1200.

It would lose contact frequently at first and split back into 3 mirrored displays but this is nearly 100% gone now.

In any case, it seems that the "all monitors must have same res" rumour is not a hard and fast rule. Most likely they need to all be same aspect ratio.

Interestingly, the software even allows you whether you want the odd size screen to scale itself to full res, or just place black all around the center. Need to have more people try other odd screen res. See what works.

awesome and thank you. saves me from buying a third mount to arrange my 3 soyo's all in portrait mode :D. i knew it :). course now i have to spend more to get that living room display :p lol. i was just going to move the westy into the living room ;) :)

Ok. So until AMD gets its act together and releases cheap working certified displayport adapters, I used the following items to get a working triple Eyefinity setup on my three non-displayport monitors (thanks to 'The Rominator').

I purchased four items to get this working without problems:

1) Apple's active displayport - dual DVI adapter which is available everywhere:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Display...4?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256805177&sr=8-4

2) Female mini displayport to male regular displayport cable:
http://estore.circuitassembly.com/p...Female-to-Displayport-Male-Adapter-Cable.html

3) USB power adapter, something like the following or anything you may have lying around:
http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Power...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1256805334&sr=8-2

4) Simple power outlet toggle (on/off) switch from Home Depot (to quickly and conveniently power cycle your Apple DVI adapter).

For the most part, Apple's adapter works seamlessly. The only hangup is with every Windows reboot, you need to power cycle the Apple adapter in order to have it function properly. But while within Windows itself, I'm able to load game after game without any problems with the Apple adapter. It just works. :D

Oh, and Eyefinity at 6144x1152 is freakin AWESOME! Talk about immersion.

I wish ATI would give us some idea of when they will have working adapters out in the market. I've been waiting for my adapter from Dell for almost a month and it still hasn't shipped. Depending on how long it takes, I might just go with the more expensive Apple route.

The worse part is having all 3 monitors ready for eyefinity. I am haunted by the non-active one on my desktop...

So there's still no solution for non dual link dvi monitors right? Or does that adapter work for other resolution monitors like 1680x1050 and you just have to bite the high price tag?

Tell me about it. I had all three monitors for two weeks and until yesterday, only two were working. Talk about a tease.

I finally broke down and got the Apple adapter. Only difference between this and the Dell is the required extra $15 mini to regular displayport cable.

Playing with the Apple adapter for a couple of hours last night, I saw none of the complaints listed in the various reviews about it. There was no snow/artifact. There were a few instances of the display blanking in and out, but swapping the DVI cables between the other two monitors worked. Apple's adapter is rock solid now and all three displays work great!

It works with all resolutions up to 2560x1600 so your 1680x1050 will work.

Can anyone confirm this? Can I use a 3007wfp as the center (horizontally) and two dell u2410 standing vertically on each side. The 24s should line up to the 30inch perfectly. That would be some nice gaming. You get the monster center screen with added visuals of the 24s.

Edit... Maybe the 24s would be to big to stand veritcally but then maybe 20's?

Q1) Mixing portrait & landscape (or even different resolutions per display) isn't possible right now, but have ATI given any indication that this will be possible in future with new drivers?

Q2) There are a handful of 2.35:1 displays & projectors, such as this AUO panel with 2560x1080 resolution: http://auo.com/auoDEV/pressroom.php?sec=newsReleases&intTempId=1&intNewsId=735&ls=en Would Eyefinity drive this with the proper field of view?

That's a good idea but there's no mixing of orientation allowed within Eyefinity. So no PLP setups. Just PPP or LLL.

Am I the only person who finds it a bit ridiculous to shell out the $$$ for a 5800 and 3 monitors and still have to spend $100 (or even $50) on extra cabling to get things working as they are supposed to?

What benefit does Display Port offer? What is lacking from the video signal of DVI/HDMI? Eyefinity would be much easier with 3 DVI/HDMI connections. Why Display Port?
A pre-existing condition of being a hardware fanatic is that you have plenty of leftover stuff all over. I already have three LCD's on my desk as it is.

Will Eye Infinity work w/ a 22'' widescreen, and two 21'' square monitors sometime? Height wise they are very close.

So ok, you do have a point, no point in shelling out money for three monitors when you already have them, but if they absolutely have to be the same then yeah, I can see I wouldn't do this right away then. But monitors are so cheap these days... for the price I spent on my 22'' 2 years ago ... would have gotten me 3 24'' monitors by now.

The vertical height 24"s in portrait would be quite a bit bigger than the height of a 30" in landscape. About 4.2 inches to be exact. It would look weird in both the disproportionate height and the resolotion.

20's then.

Im pushing a 30" gateway at 2560x1600 flanked by two dell 20.1" 1600x1200s for a total of 4960x1600. Currently I can only use SoftTH to push my setup, I got a 5870 on the way, but I really wish they would support this with eyefinity.

I tried this with the Matrox Triplehead2Go in February of 2008 with VERY mixed results (Nvidia GPU and three 40" 1080p monitors running Crysis). Glad to see ATI made it workable:

Can confirm this method works quite well. Finding that I don't have to recycle the power on the apple adaptor as much as I did at first. In fact just rebooted and didn't need to recycle power at all it just worked :)

Using CCC profile hotkeys to switch between eyefinity and extended desktop modes. At the moment you have to press the hotkey 2 or 3 times for it to correctly display the desktop (twice for extended profile and 3 times for eyefinity profile). Ati is aware of this and has filed a bug report from what I just read on WSG forums.

Anyway thanks to you and Rominator I bit the bullet on eyefinity (seemed no $ reasonable way to get the Dell adaptor to New Zealand). Happy I did it's awesome. Now I just need to get the developer of that widescreen fixer app to add back the ultra wide aspect ratios for BF2 and I'll be quite satisfied...

Those pictures are just mind blowing, too bad the cost is mind blowing as well ;\

The Dell adapter is still on back order. So I tried it this way too. So far so good.

Well I decided to upgrade already. I couldn't pass up a deal on 3 Dell 27" monitors. Gone are my 23" monitors that did well, but it was time to move on to better lcd panel and size. If I didn't believe eyefinity make games more immersive, I wouldn't have upgraded twice already.

Bye Bye LG's

New desktop wallpaper. Monitors now take the whole desk. No room for my speakers

Dayyymmmmm. Love the 27's!!!

Great pictures ontariotl! Damn that monitor setup and a racing wheel would be fun.

Damn, I've very tempted to upgrade from my SoftTH setup (powered by a GTX260) to a HD5870... I imagine my current resolution of 5040x1050 will be no problem for the 5870.

I'm waiting for ATi to get bezel management working first, though. That really needs to be there.

Just got my Dell adapter. Works fine most of the time althogh I do have periods where the DP-->DVI monitor blinks/freezes.

Hooking the adapter to a separate UBS power supply doesn't seem to help much either.

Oh well, I'll use this until a better solution comes around.

Holy crap! That is like night and day - looks like a blast to play setup like that, especially done proper with the wheel and all. Jealous.

Now there is a case for eyefinity if I've ever seen one - the RPG screenies I saw before were meh compared to this.

Check out our Eyefinity Review Video. Come in at the 29:00 minute mark for a montage of gameplay that shows Eyefinity in action from a POV perspective.

So any updated news/timeframe on AMD releasing an active displayport-dvi adapter? Thanks!

None yet. :(

They delayed mine. But so far the Apple one is working.

My Displayport adapter just shipped from Dell. Got my triple monitor DS100 set up with 28"x30"x28" in portrait ready to go this weekend.

Just waiting on my two HD 5870 PowerColor LCS and need to create a loop for them.

Been waiting for weeks for my Dell adapter...curious if it would work better then the Apple adapter I got.

FInally decided to cancel my order with Dell today.

Spent 30 minutes on the phone, got tranferred 4 times, twice to India.

Finally had a customer support person tell me that the order had never really gone through, despite the email from Dell to the contrary on October 15th.

She had no idea why.

The first 3 people couldn't find my order at all. I did point out that a computer company that can't find an order when they have the order number was pretty silly.

So, looks like I'm sticking with the Apple one.

Sounds similar to my experience with Dell. Agreed, Dell sucks,

Just thought I'd ad this:

Ordered a Dell DP Adapter on 11/9/2009 , Shipped on 11/12/2009 from SHARONVILLE, OH, US, Being delivered on 11/13/2009 (today)

Seems Dell is shipping units again. Sweet. Can't wait for eyefinity - Granted, mine will only be on 22"ers (2209WA), but IPS - I feel like a lot of people will end up with 22" eyefinity display groups due to price, I was able to buy three brand new IPS 22"s for just over $600 - near the price of one U2410. I'd also ad that due to the lower vertical resolution I think its a lot more feasible that a single 5870 will be able to push a 5040x1050 display group at acceptable frame rates.

Pics, review, etc to come tonight.

Btw, Kyle, could you expand on the issues you were having with the Dell DP adapter? And do we have any kind of an ETA on when crossfire eyefinity is going to be supported? When that happens, I'll likely pick up another 5870.

I'm running into the same issue - anyone know whats up? is it the adapter? or the drivers? Kyle, thoughts on this? are you having this issue with your adapter?
