borderlands

So, I'm pretty angry they won't give it out earlier. At this very moment I'm hoping to get a copy I can play, and I've already pre-loaded the game in steam that I bought... what idiots. And making a system anyone can play who doesn't own the game?!? that just sucks.

That means everyone will just pirate it...

exactly, the legit customer again gets screwed on the DRM meanwihle the pirates? HAH, unaffected by it and can even play online with the legit people, who even thought this kind of thing was better then a simple cd key?

Ah yeah, thanks for the catch, I've since updated it. and... read through all the forum rules yet another time... although, I just thought to myself, this isn't really illegal is it? cause I bought it. but whatever, better to follow them completely to the letter.

It's not illegal, it's solely an issue with acceptable topics of discussion for the forum.

Agreed! I mean seriously it's so simple. Look at unreal tournament 2004 for example. They chose the cdkey path. The game was only truly fun as a multilayer, and they completely made it impossible to play if you didn't have a legit cdkey, keygens didn't even work. That way, if you wanted to enjoy the complete game online, you had pay for it. Otherwise, you could be a loser and pirate it... but who would for just basically a deathmatch single player? It worked wonderfully! It kept the pirates off of the legit servers, yes, granted there were unlegit servers, but they were never as good as the real thing.

Why couldn't the do the same thing for Borderlands, I don't really know how much work the people who made UT2004 had to do to keep the non legit cd keys off, but they were able to do it and it made the game a lot better. Also, considering the classification of borderlands, where there are items, they shoulda made it cdkey requiring. Also, it's the simplest and most effective form of anti-piracy! Seriously guys, get a grip! Cd-keys when implemented properly work so well! And then of course, you don't have anything like starforce that screws your computer up. It works.

Also, I'm pretty mad that the characters / items are all stored on the client side... Cheaters are gonna be here from day 1 with level 99 weapons, max stats, and level 50 with 30 seconds of game play. I hate cheaters so much!

Lol, too true... but, I want to buy it to support the devs... I just wish they'd implemented a non drm cdkey policy.

A CD Key is a form of DRM. People are going to pirate this shit no matter what, they bitch about DRM as an excuse and they still don't buy games that don't include DRM.

DRM = Bitch.
No DRM = Pissed you bought it.
Totally wrong. I've paid for DRM-free games plenty of times before, and I would definitely still have paid for this game if I had known that there was no DRM.

I agree. I have no problem with key checks. I just don't like intrusive DRM or DRM that prevents a game from working (like Starforce preventing Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory from working under Vista).

True... and I will admit that I used to be completely like that. But of late, I've been buying all my games and the more I buy, the less I want to pirate them. It is completely stealing, and now that I feel like I'm on the other end of the stick (paying and not stealing) it makes me so mad that they've made it so easy to pirate. Cause now I'm the one paying and playing and they're the ones getting it for free and still playing... I guess you could say that now that I've been buying games, I understand why people hate pirates so much and am starting to have a complete change of heart. If that makes any sense to you...

I mean, it is true, I used to be one of the people who said that I'd buy the game if I really liked it... but that never really happened. I think times need to change for my habits, and after buying borderlands, I think they're changing more. This is the first 0-day game I've bought... I've bought many games, you can look at my Steam profile, but seriously... I didn't buy them all and I shoulda.

Starforce... now that *is* a bitch to reckon with.

Christ - it's only one more day! If this level of pissy impatience is a sign of the community to come, I'll play with friends or solo only.

Lol, I've been dying to play this game for over 2 weeks now... This is the only game I've felt this way about. I may be impatient about playing... but I'm great to play with, as in, I'm friendly and don't steal weapons etc... So, I'd say, this isn't a reflection of my character or how fun it is to play with me, but a reflection of my anticipation of this game.

Locally stored items has me seriously contemplating getting this on console instead, even though I'd much rather have it on pc. I'm guessing in a few weeks everyone will have hacked gear.

I'm a little worried about the locally stored items too. I really hope the game isn't ruined within a few week of release, but the pessimist in me thinks it is envitable.

Pre-purchased it from Steam and looking forward to playing this on Friday. I bought this instead on Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it IW / Activision!

I totally spend my MW2 preorder money on Borderlands too! Take that IW! -oIoo haha

Can't decide if I should group right away with friends when I get home today, or play for a day or two to get a feel for the game before joining up with people.

Got it for the 360 on friday and have been playing it non stop since then. I feel like I'm gonna get eaten alive by it like I did WoW and not come out of my room for a week... luckly there's work to be done and people owe me money.

I haven't trusted online play yet so I've been solo for the most part except maybe an hour to hook up with a friend of mine to swap gear. Lvl 25 Hunter and I can tell the game still has plenty of balancing to do. I just hope that Gearbox is ready for it. My revolvers oneshot most mobs, my pet one shots all mobs a level higher than me and lower, and even though I'm spec'ed snipe / pistol the only way to beat any of the bosses is with a shotgun so I've found. I've also found some workarounds on ALOT of quests... some even needed just to complete the quest because my character isn't competent enough to do so. It'll be interesting to see what happens in the days to come. I'm trying to hit end game before the first patch though...

there are at least 4 threads on this game and they all stop once the game was released, good sign?

The PC version is a fucking mess. What a disgrace. It's a lame, poorly handled port. Where's the Dx10 support? No AA. Nonexistant... The FOV is totally off (screwed up for widescreen), you have to take your hands off the mouse to deal with NPCs, and many other bugs I won't get into here.

If you have the option of waiting, I say do so, until the many bugs are (if ever) fixed. It's a fun game, but to be honest if I had my choice now I would never have prepaid for it on Steam.

No true widescreen support (it's stretched- sort of concaved) in a game in this day and age? There are some user supported "fixes" floating around but it's still not quite right. Lame.

The FOV is incorrect, but that can be fixed pretty easily by editing a .ini file. I spent a few hours today playing both single-player and co-op, and I can pretty confidently say that the game is awesome and is just about everything I had hoped it would be. There are a few issues with certain aspects of the control scheme and with the UI (like the voice communication issues), but none of them were major enough to really detract from the experience.

All in all, totally worth the $34 I paid for the game.

I like the game but the UE3 engine always bothers me. No game I've played that was built on UE3 has felt quite right. (And lack of AA sucks too)

glad i stuck with the 360. actually tho i don't see how people aren't burning out of this game and the "go kill x of these or collect this and that and come back". 14 hours in and i am doing the same shit with no real development of any sort of story.

No AA, that's poor. Batman AA was based on the U3 engine so I assumed this was too. So no DX10 then, shame.

That's because you're doing sidequests. There's a main story quest chain and a bunch of sidequests.

When you go to load your game and select a character, on the panel it says the name of the main story (I think, might be in one of the menus when you're already playing). Do that quest to continue the story line.

And I totally agree, people praise this game and all but... you do the same shit over and over. Granted the maps are all different and you never visit the same looking place twice unlike with other games (WoW is a big one). But it's still somehow very addicting

i am loving this game. its like fallout 3 or oblivion except with co-op and way more choices in guns.

I can say the PC version is NOT a mess. It is actually quite well done. Why would it need DX10 support? It is the Unreal Engine, which is DX9c based and does not natively support anti aliasing (AA can be forced). The game looks quite good, plays fantastic, and is very addictive. I have encountered 0 bugs, 0 performance issues. The only negative is that I played it until 1am and I am dragging ass at work today :O

As far as needing to take your hands off the mouse to interact with NPC's?...you are free to map the keys any way you see fit.

Overall I would give it 88%/100. Though my character is only level 16 so far. Looking forward to some co-op tonight.

Also, after finding a few very unique weapons, I can say there is a ton of potential with the loot.

There is no potential with the loot. I'm level 32 and my bags are full with useless weapons after 20 minutes of questing and I have to find a vendor to sell them off.. every 20 minutes.

It's a fun game to play but seriously, the weapon system is silly. You'll find the same types of guns with just really minor varations like one would do 10 less damage than the last, or it would have 2 extra bullets in it. Big deal, it doesn't make a gun "unique".

Don't get me wrong, it's a very addicting game and I can't stop playing it. But really, the weapon system is nothing interesting

Its an RPG.... any game with quests in it yo'u're going to end up doing the same types of quests. I think its funny that "repetitive quests" is always a complaint. I mean i agree its tedious but what can you do? Kill this guy, kill lots of that guy, gather this shit, drive here , deliver this, talk to her, and thats about it. I'm glad they don't have escort quests.

I hear the main story isn't exactly something to write home about but we'll see. I mean you're essentially a treasure hunter, fairly shallow. there is little character dev from a story perspective. There is hardly any backstory on the characters too.

I guess after watching a dozen Dragonage trailers and spending a ton of time reading up on that game the "story" stuff has kinda been more of an issue. Borederlands is still great fun.

RPG's that 4 shot in a row while having a chance to incinerate, sniper rifles that cut through shields with electricity, do elemental damage and massive criticals. Sure there are some stupid, useless weapons...but once you get some unique "purples' or "oranges" the loot system is interesting enough for me. I guess the MMO grind has given me high tolerance to the repetetive nature of this kind of game. So have Bhaal/Tyhpon runs!
