Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 PC: $49.82 with $10 egift card @ Walmart

Well then, we should encourage them. I do my best whenever possible to help others see how easy building a pc and mild overclocking can be when picking out the right components. Every dude we pull away from a controller's another win in the pc forever bucket!

And yeah, I'll be picking this up for $30/40 @ Fry's on release just like every single other major pc release for the past 3 years.

Not saying consoles are bad though. I use my ps3 as a media center / blu ray player...and to play exclusive games that don't either come to the pc...or don't come to the pc for a long time. Such as MGS4.

I never got a chance to really get into MGS4, but from the < 1hr I did play, I'd say that's 100% wo/ a doubt a couch game. I love playing shooters online w/ the pc, but for games like that, a comfy couch, big tv, and lots of bass w/ some friends really create something fun...and different.

since it was brought up in this thread.. some console games do allow mouse+keyboard support but they *always* retard the controls on the mouse and keyboard in every single case. Generally the hit boxes and/or targeting recticles are larger on console games too. They also slow the look speed, especially the turning speed.

One of the few games that allowed both pc and console players to play on the same servers was the game shadowrun - and the keyboard and mouse controls on the multiplayer servers were retarded (as in functionally diminished), and additionally both console and pc users were given some degree of auto-aiming. From a popular review site: "We play a lot of online PC shooters, and the biggest issue we found with the PC Shadowrun controls is that they feel fairly sloppy and imprecise compared to other PC shooters. This is due to the larger crosshair size and wide bullet spread. Obviously this is a way to counteract the inaccuracy of the 360 control pad relative to a mouse and keyboard. "

About the PS3 version of UT3's keyboard and mouse controls: "anyone used to the precision mouse and keyboard controls on the PC will notice a slight amount of mouse lag when turning and looking in the PS3 version. It's nothing that ruins the experience, but it can be aggravating when trying to make quick, precise aiming movements.". (Otherwise known as the sluggish/swimming turn speed of a console gamepad control coding not keeping up with the mouse movement).

"Console shooters come up with different ways of aiding the player - snapping or locking onto targets, controlling the speed of the crosshairs near enemies, or bending bullets towards enemies near the crosshairs - but they are all just ways of the game doing the aiming rather than the player."

"Dumbed down" control FPS console games make $ from the masses so its doubtful that the dev's will ever allow true mouse+keyboard functionality or the console kiddies would have shrieking tantrums.

With today's consoles being essentially portal computers with gamepads, it wouldn't be hard to allow both gamepad and full mouse, keyboard functionality in consoles games. It also wouldn't be that hard to have cross-platform multiplayer done properly. They just choose not to code it that way, even as an option.

i would agree for the most part, but when alot of games are competitive multiplayer, it's important to even the playing field on a console with a single input device, and that just happens to be the gamepad. that has been the standard on consoles for ages. you can call it dumbed down, but the controller makes sense in a console environment and for the majority of genres it encompasses.

furthermore, alot of people are going to be playing with them in living rooms, and a controller is much easier to manage than a keyboard and mouse for "casual" play. not many would be willing to have a setup just to use a keyboard and mouse on a table, desk, or custom chair for day-to-day usage. even then, it is easier to just sit or lay back with a controller and relax than to sit upright with a kb&m. also, how hard would it be to manage local &/or online multiplayer with more than one kb&m on consoles ? it wouldn't be very practical at all.

for myself, i actually like both types of input. obviously kb&m offers more precision over the gamepad in fps games, but i like the tactile feedback/ vibration forces i get from the gamepad which offers more immersion and extra sensory response. that's why i use other devices like steering wheels, ifeel, falcon, etc. on pc as well. otoh, the pc is more versatile in offering several various kinds of input devices (including gamepads), moreso than any console, which is great.

so kb&m and gamepads are the standards on pc and consoles and work best in their respective environments. imo, it should be kept that way. i don't mind kb&m support on a console, but it should not be made the standard, considering fps games are only one of many genres available on consoles. and it will continue to have downgraded functionality to keep things on an even playing field, at least for online fps games. call it laziness, poor coding, or whatever, but that's just the way it is.

I have a quick question unrelated to the whole console vs PC direction this thread has headed :)

In the previous CoD games, I found out that the key protection was only specific to an IP address. That meant I only had to purchase a single copy of the game, but both myself and my kids were able to play at the same time because our external IP was the same thanks to NAT on the router. Has anyone read on forums anywhere if this will continue to be the case with this version? Just wondering if I need more than one copy for my house....

I own a ps3 for non fps games like rock band (beatles today !), some 3rd person adventure games, racing games, fighting games, and arcade style games. However in the past I've also used the logitech cordless rumble2 gamepads (heavy ps3-like wireless gamepads for pc) on my pc for games like tombraider, prince of persia, tennis, golf, gta, and fighting games, back when I had my pc hooked up to a 37" lcd.

I might try out that fragnstein controller on the ps3 when they come back in stock. I already own version one of the fragfx but it has some cons. Although they released a v2 to fix some of the cons, I'd rather try the fragnstein with its more solid looking build and buttons than dump more $ into split fish again. Like I said before though, the code of each console game itself is written for slow look/aim speeds and "enhanced" crosshair/aiming/bullet "funneling" - etc so controllers can't do much. I wish we had the option for precise control though. Server flags could easily denote whether classic-gampad or precise controls were allowed, (or both/open). Its all about the coding..

Inventive devices like the fragfx, the fragnstein, even the wii controllers, and PC peripherals like the belkin nostromo and the logitech g13 gameboard show that the gamepad/console peripheral design could be modernized (even further than those) so that more accurate "mouse+keyboard" style controls wouldn't necessarily require a big honking keyboard nor any surface/desk in the living room.

As far as this game goes, from the gameplay vids I've seen of it the graphics and especially the lighting and shadows look really good. I just hope the gameplay mechanics are done better than cod4, which for me got old really quick. I might use some bb reward certs and grab it there vs walmart, depends. $50 at wallyworld isnt too bad thnx for the heads up. PC ver for me fo' sho'.

personally I'm waiting for the steam version. no cds to worry about, plus I'm really really sick of their crappy server browsers and having to dictate ip addresses over vent to my friends.

will this be on steam?

So who wants to send me their eGift Card to make this warm deal Hot!

I would rather have a hard copy of the game, that way you can sell off for $30 used if you get bored with it.

The point was that most people cannot do that.

Eh, you can find some good pre-built gaming-capable PCs for alot less than $1,000. Nowadays they usually sit at around $750 for systems with 4870/GTX260 level cards and a little bit above $600 for systems with 4850/GTS250 level cards.

I'll concede that that's still a lot more expensive than just buying a console though. To get a good system for less than a console you'd have to DIY it.

Don't forget to factor that $800 HDTV, $400 HTIB, and $600 Couch.

You should forget to factor these in because most people buying a next gen console would have these with or without a xbox or ps3.

Someone arguing this from the PC side actually talking sense? That is amazing for this forum.

Anyway, I have always said this about PCs. A big part of the cost that is overlooked is upgrading. This console life cycle will probably last 7 years. In that time, if you wanted to stay on top of games (and you will want to because most PC games do not scale very well), you will have gone through two major upgrades or more. People often overlook this factor.

Regardless, an Xbox is not only $400 for 7 years and a PC is not only $750 for 7 years. They both cost a lot more than that.

Just wanted to say this is a good deal and Wal-Mart is quickly turning into my game shop of choice (I bought COD4 on release there too for $40), pre-ordered already a few weeks ago from Wal-Mart. At least no smart mouthed Game Stop employee's silently mocking you for buying PC games saying, "oh you probably don't have a computer to play games on max settings so buy a console", morons. I swear they use that tactic every damn time I'm in the store, using Crysis and FarCry 2 as examples on unsuspecting customers. They might as well just say "it just works", console gamers are just glorified Mac users.

EDIT How long are people going to call these consoles "Next-Gen"? How long have they been out now?

It's not. But when I pick it up @ Fry's for $30 or $40, it will be!

It's a deal because everywhere else it's $10 more, + you get the egift card crazeeh . And the faster you get the game the faster you rank up, get all the perks, etc.

I think this game has some longevity with multiplayer on the pc version any way. I'm probably going to buy it. It's all about multiplayer really, and playing on servers with good mods.

That may be a long time.

COD4 at Fry's is still $39.99. :(

As soon as COD4 hits $19.99 deal I'm on it.

$29.99 is a hot deal for CODMW2.

I read somewhere the PC version will be delayed 2 weeks? Anyone know if this is the case?

A price is not good because its better than an overpriced price. :p

Its just the typical marketing strategy for any game. They know all the little kiddies and suckers will dish out money so they can play it "now" cause its new. If I owned a business, I would do the same thing.

I definitely dont call this a "hot deal". I may look into buying this game when it hits the $20-$30 range.

COD:MW was ok I guess. It got old fast though. Id only assume this is the same exact thing. COD2 was better. :p I wonder if anyone still plays that. : /

hasn't been confirmed yet, GameStop, Gamespot, and Best Buy all show November 10th as the release date. we shall see.

No, no. You guys are forgetting that since CoD MW's fanbase has transformed into a bunch of mindless, Infinity Ward-blowing drones, and IW knows this, they have jacked the PC price up to the console price - $60. So Fry's sale price will probably be $50. And you know what? All those lame map packs will definitely not be free now.

Nor will we get them anytime soon, I think xbox will get the maps a month or two before any other platform.

LOL, wonder if Walmart has a no return or refund because of the gift cards?

IW decided to not support dedicated servers for this game, as well as raising the retail price for this game to $60.

I would highly recommend if you wish to keep PC gaming in the form it is now, that you do not purchase this game.

If you would prefer PCs to become exactly like consoles, then feel free to purchase this game.

Personally, I've played CoD competitively for almost 5 years and this is going to completely change PC gaming as we know it, if this game sells well. If it doesn't people will probably still proclaim that PC gaming is dead, so it's kind of a lose-lose.

Everybody needs to get on IW so that they properly support this game.

It is going to sell well regardless if 1 or 2 features are missing initially. Odds are they will return as the game matures in the market. This has happened in past games, though much later than many would have liked.

No. IW's Head of Public Relations came out and said that there will be ABSOLUTELY NO DEDICATED SERVERS in Modern Warfare 2. Go google it, there's already a huge petition making its way around the internet, to no effect of course.

I made it bold for people who have trouble reading.

^ Are you taking about the PC version or the 360 version? Wasn't Modern Warfare hosted on player's consoles. The game would instantly end when the "host" left the match. I am happy to hear that the game will automatically find another user to host instead of kicking everyone back to the lobby.

Well said... overpriced & lacking essential features we take for granted = no sale, IW! Don't mean to threadcrap as it is a "low" price but the company is craptacularly handling their launch.

Unless it's a godlike improvement over MW i'm not buying it for the reasons listed ^

This thread is about the PC version, which is what I'm talking about. I'm not even sure that 360 games could use dedicated servers since Xbox Live is coded for P2P matchmaking.

Cancelled my pre-order of 3 copies. I am not giving them a single dollar. And i still going to play the single player.
