MW2, No Dedicated Servers, PB, 9v9 limit, leaning, etc etc

Bullshit, there's no way activision and infinity ward would be stupid enough not to ensure dedicated servers are made available for the PC version. W/out them the game will fail on PC....guaranteed.

psssh yea right....If this is the case and i hear more about this I will not buy the game until i see some reviews or demo. I like SP games but a game like this I will mostly likely hit the MP before the SP.

All it says is that they're including a matchmaking system. That doesn't mean no dedicated servers, and it doesn't mean no server browser. L4D has all three...

So I just did some investigating and called a few game server hosting companies and all of them have not heard anything about dedicated server files.

2 of them said that in the past they had been approached by IW to host some beta servers for them. This time around they have not been contacted.

Also I checked out Evenbalance's website (the creator of Punkbuster) and do not see any announcement of support for MW2.

Usually Evenbalance announces support within a month or two of the release of a game.

This is quite concerning.

wow, if this is true then it seems like they are following in FEAR 2's footsteps.

If IW does this it will be a bungle of giant proportion. P2P is something that consoles have because server-client is not pragmatic, not because it's better. Server-Client will always be the configuration of choice for PC multiplayer. IW and Activision is just showing that they're WAAAAAAAYYY out of touch with their audience.

This whole thing is downright retarded. The first article goes on about dedicated servers vs matchmaking, which is a stupid comparison because you can have matchmaking which uses dedicated servers, the 2 aren't mutually exclusive.

Nor does it mention anywhere that matchmaking is going to be forced on, or be the only option.

Lastly, the bullshit about piracy is their own dumb fault, stopping online multiplayer piracy has been proven possible for years and years now, when you run your own dedicated master server you can enforce cd key checks allowing only legit (non-duplicate) keys to join game servers. You will even hear the average PC gamer mutter the phrase "you don't want piracy, make a good multiplayer"

1. There will be dedicated servers. (Just a new matchmaking system. (Similar to L4D, like LuminaryJanitor said)
2. There will be anti-cheat system.

Come-on. That was the most over analyzed and wrongfully speculated crap I have ever read.
Why in the hell would IW remove dedicated servers and remove anti-cheat from their best selling game ever. CoD4 has a ton more users on PC then console. Why would they remove features on MW2 that made MW1 great?

Source?

Where are you getting your info?

if they remove Dedicated server, I refuse to pay and play this game..

they already mess up the price, then collector's edition, and then mess with the release date..

now they mess with dedicated server..

I am pretty sure they just want to make PC look bad..

They just did it with Operation Flashpoint 2 and it is a huge mess for them. I would like to believe that IW would not make this same error.

I personally am loving the game itself however they definitely goofed the multiplayer for now. I tried many times to get into a game last night with no luck. Yet I played Sat. night for 3-4 hours and had a fantastic time. Just needs patching...

To keep on topic though, dedicated servers are absolutely necessary for a game like CoD:MW2. If they don't have them the world will crumble, mark my words.

I'm going to wait to see about this game. Seems awful already. No dedicated servers means lagfest. I hope they suffer for this in sales. This will make people pirate more to see what the games going to be like. I won't pay for something if it doesn't have dedicated servers. They are trying to get away with less work on the pc. If there are no dedicated servers this game will fail big time.

and they have more reasons to say PC gaming is dying....which is fud and troll...

The plot thickens.....

This will, without a doubt, INCREASE piracy. If theres no platform conspiracy here, then the decision makers are stupid and dont have a clue about PC multiplayer. Not sure which is correct, quite honestly... This is akin to taking a shotgun and aiming at your own leg.

Wow, this is dumb.
Just dumbfounding.

Feel kind of bad for the guys who are "down" for two copies @ 60 bucks each on release day if this is true.

I know some will say there's no conspiracy but whatever. My take is simple, if in fact this is true, it has been done with intentional consequences. They know full well the PC gaming community EXPECTS (and rightfully so) full dedicated server support OUT OF THE FUCKING BOX. This is common knowledge to everyone in the industry. Let alone common knowledge to IW and Activision/Blizzard. How much money does AV/Blizz make off WoW subs again? A complete PC game ONLY. Ya uh please don't hand me any nonsense about this. If in fact they don't have dedicated servers from day 1 then it's a first in the COD series EVER on the PC. The only reason they would do this is because of piracy and for an easy excuse to drop the PC from this franshise forever the next time out. Yes it will increase piracy on this game and yes the know it and the will use that against us in the argument for not making another PC port of COD ever. It will be the chicken and the egg symdrome. Community will say well you fucked us with no servers so we stole it and the ones that didn't who bought it are far and few between. They will of course say they dropped the PC because MW 2 was pirated to hell and back.

My feeling is they know piracy for this game will be high regardless of the genuine sales and they don't like it. The only way to keep it from getting pirated next time is not to make a pc version. They probably figure alof of the PC COD people will just pick up a console version next time and to a certain extent they are right. The die hards like alot of us will just SAY will are going to boycottt IW and Act/Blizz forever and move on. The end.

My 2 cents.

Just an an aside. I know piracy is alive and well on the consoles too and so do they. The piracy on the consoles, percentage wise, pales in comparsion to the PC, period.

Not buying this. They jacked the price up to $60. Call of Duty began life on the PC as a fun and enjoyable WWII fps.
Now it seems that infinity ward has been essentially bought out by strong 360 sales.
A Modern Warfare themed 360? I think it's pretty clear where they have been spending their development time.

Cod2 ftw still. This developer has gone to pasture and needs a headshot. You cut off the hand that has fed you for years.

can I get a fail please?

I'll be fucking pissed if there aren't dedicated servers and a standard server browser for this game. If I wanted to deal with a terrible matchmaking system I would have reserved my copies for the 360, and not the PC.

The first article has been updated.

"........the latest I have heard related to dedicated servers was a comment from a GSP (anonymous source as he wanted anonymity) that dedicated servers will in fact be available. Apparently, he was contacted by IW on this topic recently."

No, I think people just blew the quotes out of proportion since they were taken out of context in the first place, they didn't specifically say that there were no dedicated servers, just that they were designing a matchmaking system for pc players.

i didn't have it pre-ordered. this pretty much assures i won't be purchasing it either. what in the fuck are these people thinking?

no dedicated servers

'least PB is now switched to VAC, which is better, but no dedicated servers sucks. They'll probably change it.

PB sucks anyway. No dedicated servers though? WTF! Glad I'm buying the xbox version.

PB does a nice enough job with banlists from PBBans / Airdale Ops.

Id say it does a better job than Vac anyday.

Listen to the podcast, they are dead set on not going dedicated. They have killed the PC version. Half my clan just dropped the preorder because of this fact alone.

When you don't care about the multiplayer and only want single player, what do you think they are going to do. The answer isn't buy the game.
